I upped all my weights:D (except tri- don't know why, could have started with 8's but only did 5s. when I went down for the last 12 reps I did use 8s but I'm not sure that counts;))
I went to 20# on the biceps: barely knocked out the 6 hammer curls and could only do 4 of the regular curls, but I am still happy with that!:)
 
Hi again:confused:

forgot I wanted to mention.... since I have been doing abs 2X a week on cardio days and doing planks (reg, supine and side) and in and outs with the split leg crunches only, I have seen a HUGE improvement in my abs. They used to stick out a little which I attributed to the fact I have split abs due to my pregnancies, but apparently that's not the case. I think all the weighted ab work and extra crunches don't work for me. I also have been "bracing" my abs during the weight work and I think that helps too. Also, I wonder how much of the kb work is helping, I've been doing the tutorial for a few weeks.....

Good Afternoon Ladies!

I did 3 chinups, Tracey's Glute Camp and PUB abs this morning. Had a little trouble with abs - had to rest after the 1st 8 pikes then couldn't finish the 2nd set when she lifts one leg off the ball in plank. It's been awhile since I did this.

Deanie - Didn't get my KB yet but saw a 20# in Target that came with a DVD for $50. Thought that was kind of high but I guess it was high because it came with a DVD (I think Iron Core - and it was a Go Fit KB). I might wait until I decide whether or not I'm cancelling STS. I also want to go check out the prices at Dick's Sporting Goods. Where did you get your KB? How many times a week are you doing KBs?

I did the split leg crunches in BM2 abs. I really like them and find them effective too. She also does the side plank in BM2. I did them one-legged last week. I don't like doing endless crunches either. I've been trying to fit in more plank work too. I would like to think that the KBs are helping your core strength.

Gin - Hope you're having a nice time in Houston. How's your mom doing? Get Up & Dance isn't so bad. Not that hard. I actually like it.

Marcy~ When I was pricing the kb's they all seemed to be the same price, no matter where you bought them. I bought mine from Dick's because I had a 20$ off coupon from them (because I shop there alot and its part of their rewards program) All the go fit kb's come with the dvd: its the tutorial that I've been doing. As far as a tutorial, its okay, but the AOS minute of strength videos are better IMO (AOS doesn't have all the moves so between the 2 its okay). When I was doing the tutorial, to learn the moves, I was doing the kb's at the end of my weight work (so 3X a week, but only for about 10 min.) last week was the first time I did a "full body" workout with the kb's and I only used them once last week. Going forward for the next 3 weeks, at least, I will only be using them for my full body days, so I will only use them once a week. I really want to see the results of using the pyramids the way I am using them, so I want to do at least 4 weeks of this rotation. Hope that all makes sense!!:confused:

Then I'm not sure how I am going to use them..... I am 99% sure I am going to cancel STS. The only thing holding me back is what my DH said. "its already paid for, so you might as well get it" I'm not thrilled with the leg work so far, and I'm sure I'm not going to be thrilled with the abs (well, maybe the pilates style abs, because that seems to work well for me. But then again I have pilates already...) and the double wave looks like the way I am doing the pyramids. so we'll see.
 
Good Afternoon Girls!

It's 5 pm and I just now finished 4ds KB and abs. It's really all I had time to do here. I have been busy cooking, cleaning, running errands for my parents. I am going to my 9 yo nephew's Grandparent's Day program at his school tomorrow morning and then I am driving back home in the aft. DS21 comes home tomorrow. Hope the traffic is not too bad!!:(

Deanie~I am pretty sure I will buy a 15# kb in the next few days!:) I want to try it after your positive experience!

Marcy~Looking forward to the Paula Abdul dvd when I get home. DWTS tonight.

Good Morning Gals

Today was CTX step and intervals on an 8" step and abs (I did the 4DS kickbox in and outs and the split leg crunches, then held the side plank for a minute, then did the pikes on the ball from PUB) Half way thru CTX S&I I was thinking I was crazy :confused: for doing the workout on an 8" step!! I forgot all the power 7s and power 15s in there!! But I made it thru and felt really accomplished!! (and thrilled the workout was over!;))

Gin~ OMG!!! I am so excited you are getting a kb!!! You will love it. Have you checked out the AOS website? it has great videos for teaching form and wonderful articles about fitness in general. I am so psyched for you!! Have fun at grandparents day. How was your mom?

Marcy~ Great job with the chins! What's on the agenda today?

Good Morning Chicas!

This morning I did David Van De Velde's Hip Hop Battle. It was fun and a bit challenging. The tempo is what throws me off with hip hop. He did break things down pretty well though first at a slow tempo and then normal tempo (which is pretty fast).

Forgot to mention I went to a dance Saturday night. Did a few new dances: Bolero, Viennese Waltz and Fox Trot. Also did East Coast Swing, Rumba, and Two Step. Who knew Viennese Waltz could be so exhausting! Felt like a got a good workout with that dance. You never stop moving. You're turning as you're circling around the dance floor and the one I did was pretty up tempo.

Deanie - Awesome core workout and congrats on doing CTX on an 8" step.

Gin - Congrats on getting a KB! Hope you like it as much as Deanie! Enjoy Grandparent's Day with your nephew.

How did you like DWTS? I think Brooke & Derek are probably going to win. Their freestyle was probably the best although Warren's came in a close second. I was disappointed with Lance & Lacey's freestyle. I liked his mambo and if his freestyle was great, I think he might have won it. He really has improved a lot. I feel his scores probably would have been (and should have been) higher during the season but because they were more expressive and didn't use the proper content, they were marked down. Also, I heard Julieann is not going to be on the show next season - I think she wants to devote more time to her music career.

Hope your mom is doing well. Hope you enjoy Paula!

Wild Wednesday

Good Morning

today was PLB. I upped my weights again, sometimes more than I wanted because apparently I can't add at 5:30 in the morning:eek: I was using my 20# vest and dumbells, because I hate lifting the bb over my head a bizillion times!!

Stats: (frist # 12 reps, 2nd # 10 reps, 3rd # 8 reps, 4th # 6 reps, 5th # 12 reps)
leg press: 30,35,40,45,30
static lunge: (totally messed up on the first set, and grabbed 2- 10# db- couldn't figure out the math so early:confused: :confused: and of course me being anal, I didn't want to drop weight at that point so.....) 40,46.5,50,60,40
squats/plie: 35,40,44 (2 - 12#),50,35
deadlifts: 35,40,45,50,35
calf raises: used 2- 7#db

then I did the floor work, but I'm wondering if I need to. Or why I should. I already hit all the areas of my legs and in S&H there is no floor work. Any thoughts? I'm thinking of asking in the Ask Cathe forum....

I still haven't gotten my dvd from AOS!!!!!:mad::mad::mad: When I emailed my brother to tell him, he said to wait till tues and then he will call, maybe witht he holiday weekend things are slower/backed up. I am thinking of calling myself today. (I am NOT a patient person) I WANT MY KB DVD!!!!:mad::mad::mad: (not trying to be spoiled, just really am tired of waiting for it......:eek:)

Are you gals working out tomorrow? I am still planning on doing 4DSkb (love that one- lets go, lets go lets go!!!;))

I'm hoping ot be able to go to Sports Authority and get a kb today. I have a coupon there that will expire today.
DS21 came home yesterday afternoon and then ds24 came over, so that was fun to have them both here last night. It will be just DH, ds21 and me for Thanksgiving tomorrow. But I am making pretty much the traditional fare, just not as much.
Grandparent's Day at my nephew's school was nice. It was a music progam for just the 3rd graders. He seemed happy to have us there. My dad was able to go also.

Marcy~Did you see DWTS last night? My boys and DH laugh at me for watching it. I wasn't surprised at the winner.
Your dance Sat night sounded like a lot of fun.
Your Hip Hop battle sounds like fun, but if it was challenging for you, you can bet that I will NEVER attempt it!!
I feel so challenged by Cathe's step sometimes, but I let a friend borrow KPC and she said she couldn't follow the choreography on it.
My mom is doing better, but still not back to her old self. She is weak and tired and my dad has to do a lot for her.

What is on the Thanksgiving menu girls?
I do plan to workout tomorrow, but not sure what. Maybe a tough but fun cardio workout!?!?

Good Afternoon!

Today I did Tracey's Strictly Upper Body. Love this workout (except for the abs which I didn't bother doing) but there is some plank work within the workout and she always includes balance challenges which work the core.

Had Cha-Cha lessons last night. The teacher's partner was out so I was pretty much his teaching assistant for the evening.

Deanie - So sorry you didn't get your DVD yet. I hope you get it by this weekend. I hope Cathe shows some more clips by this weekend so I can finally make a decision about STS. DD is staying home and just chilling out tomorrow. She's been working 2 jobs and she really just needed a day to herself. DS will be with friends. I hopefully plan on doing Total Yoga: Fire tomorrow (another new yoga practice). I am off on Friday. These will be my first days off since going back to work.

Great workout today! You're really getting up there with the weights. I still think you should do the floor work from PLB. I think the standing work hits all the larger muscles while the floor work gets the smaller ones - floorwork is more for inner and outer thighs and even though your glutes get worked with the plie squats, I think the glute raises do a better job of working the glutes. Deadlifts work the hamstrings pretty good so maybe you don't need to do the roll-ins and roll-outs but they also work the glutes at the same time. I'm the opposite of you -- I actually only like doing the floorwork from PLB and could skip the standing work except I usually do the deadlifts and calf raises.

Gin - I didn't see DWTS yet so don't give anything away (although I think I have an idea who won). It's so nice you had both your boys with you last night. I hope you are able to get your KB today.

I guess since you ran this morning you got your cardio in so you could do your 1RM tests today.

My DH is actually making us a pre-Thanksgiving meal tonight - turkey, potato, stuffing, cranberries. We'll be going out to eat tomorrow and maybe a movie.

In case I don't check in, have a Happy Turkey Day tomorrow (and don't eat too much!) (unless you plan on running a few miles afterwards!)

I am off to do LM in a minute and then some of my 1rm for bis and tris. I bought my 15# kb yesterday and looked at the dvd. Not sure when I will start actually do it though. I want to do circuit w/o and run for December. Should I do 2 circuits and 1 kb routine per week? The dvd is not very long.

Marcy~They were lucky to have you as the teaching asst at your Cha-cha lesson. Did you enjoy it? How was your pre-Thanksgiving meal last night? What movie will you see?
Paula's w/o was fun, but I did have trouble following it. Even though she breaks it down, it still moved too quickly for me. But, WOULD be fun if I did it several times and would learn it all.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

today was 4DS KB cardio only. you know I love this workout.

Gin~ YEA!!! Enjoy your kb!! I would do 2 circuits and one kb workout a week for a rotation. The dvd is just the exercises, not an actual workout. I did use it after my workout to "train" with so I felt comfortable with all the moves. Also check out AOS website (sign up for the newsletter- its really informative) and under videos, in 2006, there are great tutorials for the snatch, high pull and the turkish get up. I think AOS has a better tutorial then the go fit dvd, but they don't cover all the exercises. I will email you a kb workout for beginners that I found that is 20 min long. It looks good.....NO I DID NOT GET MY DVD!!!!!:mad: :( :mad: :( I did call yesterday, but the girl who can track packages already left. My brother said to wait till Monday and he'll call. I definitely think if they sent it out last Fri or even Sat, it would have been here by now. :( I feel bad for me, but also for my brother who did something nice and its now frustrating!

Marcy~ how cool that you were the t.a. for the instructor!! You must be really good!! I have Total Yoga Fire. I used to really like it, I haven't done it for a while, but it is one that I kept!! I hope you like it. How was your pre thanksgiving dinner? Enjoy your day today. What movie did you see??

We are having a very non traditional thanksgiving day meal:
pumpkin-white bean soup
dairy kugel
broccoli
very simple and yummy for us;)

Good Morning

Today was kb, and since I don't have my dvd yet, I did the kb meltdown 300, but changed it alittle. Here's what i did:

25 in and outs (instead of v ups)
50 high pulls - 25 each side (instead of snatches)
25 pushups
50 swings - 2 handed
50 burpees (these just about did me in- I did 31 and then had to stop for a few seconds before knocking out the rest)
50 clean and press - 25 each side (my left side was much harder and I did 20, rested a few seconds and then did the final 5)
50 mountain climbers ( counting 1 each time my right leg came in- not sure if thats the right way to count it)
then I added.....
30 figure 8 to a hold
6 Turkish get up - 3 each side

:cool:I did the whole thing with a 20#kb!! It took me 23 min:cool: I am feeling very worked out and happy with the workout. (really miss the workout smilie)

Then I did stretch max #1

Gin/Marcy~ I hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving!!! Are you gals hitting the stores today? We are staying far away!!!! I am however, going to the post office today with the hopes all the people will be shopping and not mailing gifts:p

Good Morning Ladies!

I did Total Yoga: Fire this morning. Yesterday was a rest day. It was pretty good. I managed to do a headstand for a second but then flipped over. Did a great shoulderstand though.

My pre-Thanksgiving meal was great. Yesterday we went to a diner where we had a non-traditional meal but was great nonetheless:

Matzoh Ball Soup
Caesar Salad
Twin Lobster Tails stuffed with crabmeat
Stuffed Mushrooms
Baked Potato
Broccoli
and then my downfall: Carrot Cake!

I have to admit I gained a pound but am not too worried about it. Lunch was delicious and since I could only finish half, had the other half for dinner.

Good News! I am off to try and get my KB! Looked in Sports Authority yesterday. It was the same price but the one in Target included the DVD so I'm off to Target now.

Deanie - Great workout! Glad to see you got a great workout in 23 minutes! We are staying away from the stores today except for Target and BJ's to do a little food shopping. We're probably going to wait till Sunday to go to the movies. Maybe the Changeling, Four Christmases or the Dark Knight.

Gin - Glad you enjoyed Paula. I'm sure you'll get it after a few tries. I don't think I got it on the first time either.

I hope you girls enjoyed your Thanksgiving.

Good Afternoon Girls!

I ran this morning and then came home to do some of the 1 rm for bis and tris and I did the Go Fit kb tutorial w/o the kb. Later I will do CS (Class. Stretch).
I am wanting to get a barbell. Maybe for Christmas. I have never owned one!! I saw one at walmart.com for $19.66. It's a US Brand 55# barbell. Is this what I want or is there something better?

Deanie~Will I need to go to the AOS website to see the kb moves that you included in your e-mail? I don't think any of them are in the GoFit tutorial. Thank you for the suggestion that I keep practicing until I get the moves down and feel comfortable with them.

I am only going to the needlepoint store and grocery store today. I do not like crowds at the store. Not worth it to me. When I passed by the mall at 7:45 am driving back from running with my friend, the parking lot was FULL!:eek:

Yeah to your getting a kb! I ended up getting mine at Academy Sports b/c Sports Authority had another brand w/o a dvd. I wanted the Go Fit one.

Gin~ That's great that you tried the kb today. Soooo........What did you think? Very different, isn't it??? Yes, go to the AOS website and go to the videos and then go to the 2006 ones, and they are there. I didn't know you didn't have a barbell:eek:!! I got mine at Dicks Sporting Goods, make sure you get a barbell with clips for the weights so they go on and off easier.


I think I got the smilies to work.

Marcy~ Your meal yesterday sounds good! Good luck with the kb, I sent you an email with workouts!

FYI~ I still haven't gotten my dvd. I am sure it is not coming, but my brother is making me wait till tues. morning before he calls!!!:mad:

Good Morning Ladies!

Probably no workout today except I might do Tamilee's stretch tape later on. We're going to get the Christmas decorations out and start decorating.

I finally got my 20# Go Fit KB yesterday! It came with the Sarah Lurie Iron Core instructional DVD. I actually tried it out. I did Turkish getups, 2 arm swings, 1 arm swings, alternating arm swings, squats and cleans. I think the 20# was too heavy for the Turkish getups so I'll use a dumbbell for those. Otherwise, 20# was fine for everything else. I actually could probably use 25# on the arm swings. While I was watching her do the squats, it seems she goes much lower than when you do normal squats with a BB. My lower back started hurting a little (I forget on which exercise) so I really need to concentrate on my form.

I also did 2 chins yesterday and mowed the loan. Tomorrow is Cha Cha lessons.

Deanie - Thanks for the e-mail. I will look it over when I'm done posting.

Gin - I forgot you never had a BB. $19.66 sounds like a great price. You could always buy more plates when you need them. I agree with Deanie about the clips -- otherwise it takes too long to change weights. I had the screw on clips and it took forever to change weights.

Good Morning!

Today was 5.2 mile run/walk. We are s-l-o-w-l-y inching up our mileage and increasing the time we run and decreasing the time we walk. We have a long way to go to get to 13.1 miles!!:eek: But we still have 3 months.
Tomorrow I am starting a circuit month and hope to throw in some kb w/o too. I am finished with about 20 of my 1rm, but have a long way to go on that. Not sure how accurate it is. Do you assume that it is always using dbls, unless it states bbl?

Thanks for the advice on the barbell. Not sure if the one from walmart has clips or not, but I do know that the edges are not rubber.:( I may like the Troy Lite better. It is $69.00 for 40 lbs.

Marcy~Yeah to the 20#kb!! Enjoy your cha cha lessons tomorow. We are also getting our Christmas decorations out today. My ds21 is good at helping with the tree and he leaves tomorrow.
