!i!i!i Kettlebell Monday !i!i!i

hi again!:)

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We finally broke down and saw Avatar! We were worried about the violence with my 10 year old, but it was fine, he only covered his eyes once towards the end. GREAT movie!!!! We all really, really enjoyed it!

Here's my workout today. I went with the 20kg kettlebell and it was perfect. My form was spot on and I could have gone longer, but I was cutting it close with time and wanted to work on my OHS today.

Have a great Monday everyone!!

Good morning!

Deanie - Nice workout! Thanks for the report on Avatar. I really had no interest in seeing it, but now all the positive reviews have me intrigued.

Jane - Good run and workout yesterday!

Waves hello to Melissa, Marcy and Rhonda!

Tonight I start Starting Strength. I'm going to commit to it for a solid 6 weeks to begin with, and then evaluate my progress. Basically, I lift 3 days per week, using alternating workouts (A & B) with a rest day between sessions. The workouts are:

Workout A
Squat 3x5
Bench Press 3x5
Deadlift 1x5

Workout B
squat 3x5
Press 3x5
Power Clean 3x5

You can also add in assistance exercises as appropriate, so I'll probably also work pull-ups/chin-ups to one of these, and include TGUs in the warm up.

I'm hoping the days off will also give me a chance to do some skiing on the off days, and also work on cleaning up my diet.

Have a great day!

Good Morning!

I'm working out with my sister tonight. It will be an indoor workout even though the temperatures are rising a bit. We'll be at 50 today. The mornings are still in the 20's. I actually found and wore my gloves this morning!!

Here's the workout:

Pendulum
50 swings/30 pull ups
40 swings/25 pull ups
30 swings/20 pull ups
20 swings/15 pull ups
10 swings/10 pull ups
5 swings/5 pull ups

I'll probably add in some crunches for good measure!

Deanie ~ Glad you enjoyed the movie. I'm happy all went well with the 20kg bell.

Gayle ~ Good luck on your program! I have the link but haven't checked it out yet.

Waving hello to Marcy, Melissa and Rhonda!!

Good Afternoon!

Today was 4 chinups and Core Fusion Pilates Plus which had some tough core work in it. The dance was cancelled on Friday due to ice so I went Saturday night. Burned off some of those excess pounds. We had a West Coast Swing lesson first and then the dance was after that.

Melissa - Sorry Budokon didn't work out for you. It was different than anything I had ever done and it does take a little time to learn the moves. Cathe MMA Fusion was similar but seemed to have a flavor of MMA whereas Budokon feels more like the real thing.

Jane - Good luck with all those pullups! It's still been in the 20s here:mad: but it's supposed to warm up to the 50s by the end of the week!:D

Gayle - Good luck with Starting Strength! Hope it works for you.

Deanie - Cindy looks like a nice warmup for ETK. Glad you enjoyed Avatar! I read they have an Avatar 2 coming this year.

Waves to Rhonda!

Good afternoon, friends! :)

Deanie, that video was WICKED! I canNOT believe that tiny little thing did all of those snatches with that huge bell and only ONE SWITCH! I would LOVE to see her training log!!!
Another question: you said that you were going to do swings longer next time instead of just sticking to the 12 minutes. Is that better than adding reps per round? For this Thursday, ETK says to do 30 swings in one minute for 12 minutes. Is it better to add more minutes, keeping it at 20 swings/30 seconds per minute, if you want more swings?
Did you see Avatar in 3D? I thought the graphics were INCREDIBLE!!! If it wasn't for the graphics, I don't know if I'd have like it as much: 20 minutes into the movie, DH and I knew exactly what was going to happen, who would do what and how it would end, but it was a fun ride. We saw it in 3D and he was making fun of me because I kept trying to swipe the ferns and little jelly-dudes out of my face, lol. That was my first 3D movie ever.

Gayle, speaking of cleaning up diets: this is the first day I have gone with any sugar - cookies, cake, ice cream, tarts, pie, you name it - since before Halloween. It's freaking hard cleaning up! But I am with you, girl!!! I can't wait to hear how you enjoy SS. :)

Jane, I LOVE your workout for today! Did you make that one up yourself? You know what finding your gloves reminds me of, that song by Alanis Morrisette, Isn't it Ironic... just when yo don't need them anymore, there they are! :p

Marcy, just in case you missed it: I couldn't do get into Budokon. I tried, really I did, but I just couldn't like it. :( I don't think it suits my personality or my style, if that makes sense.

Rhonda, how are you doing today? :)

I did ETK Swings today. It was about the same as last time, except when I had to move down to 25# because of my forearms it felt WAY too light! :D I warmed up with 3 rounds as rx'd, plus the "Up Pyramid" Deanie has in her blog (I named it, it sounded funny when I though it so I kept it :p) I did it with a 10# weighted vest, and it was much more difficult today than it was last week. I didn't get enough rest y'day - I was at my MIL's, so that should say it all. ;] I worked on some dead lifts with the kettlebell afterwards. Just because :)

I still haven't heard back from the H2O company.

DS just finished The Lightning Thief - 375 pages in one weekend. That is the LONGEST book he has ever read, and he was so absorbed! He is doing a booth on Greek Mythology this spring because he LOVES the story of their gods, so this series is right up his ally. He has already started on The Sea of Monsters... as a book nerd, I can't tell you my heart swells to see one of my kids take it up! There isn't a smilie that can capture how I feel!

See you all later!

Melissa

Good Afternoon!!

Gayle::: I hope you enjoy SS!! The rotation looks good, and you have variety each week, so that should be good to keep you interested! Do you go to failure or a %age of your 1RM? Enjoy using all your new toys:)

Jane::: I lIKE the pendulum workout today! Have fun with it!

Marcy::: Your dance class sounds fun. WTG on the chinups!! Can't believe we've been at this for 3 years!!! Yipes!!:);)

Melissa::: Great workout today!! Yes, we saw Avatar in 3D:) a lot of the plot was predictable, but the ride getting there was so well worth it!!!:):) The kids totally didn't guess the plot, and it was a great learning lesson for them! My DS13 and I read the whole Percy Jackson series!!! We loved the books, and I found out last month, there is a movie coming out!!! WHOO HOO!

Here is a link to the DD forum when someone has a question about the program min. (pm) and swings:

I am not following the aos workbook for etk. There is nothing in the ETK book that has it so detailed and outlined like the aos workbook. I think you can use your own interpretation--->As long as you do 12 min of swings/rests...I like Jordans 30 on/30 off. In another thread, he has said to help with your snatch...when you can do 20 min. of 30 on/30 off go up to 20 min. of 1 min. on/1 min.off and you should be able to snatch better....something like that, sorry I can't find the link:confused:...I will try to find it, I would like to reread it myself.... anyway, I think its more challenging to do 30/30, but thats jmo....

Waves to Rhonda!!! Missin' you, hope all is well!!!!

later gators!

Wow, Deanie, you have researched and thought through this so much more - and better! - than I have... I feel like I should be paying you for all of your advice!

BTW, that is a GREAT BIG thank you!!!

I will check out the links, and browse Dragon Door some more after dinner. :)
