I have to eat my words....

when ever I hear someone say they don't have time to exercise, I ALWAYS inwardly roll my eyes and think all kinds of nasty things. But now.... this summer has been crazy!!! I have had weeks that I did not work out at all. I hate it, but I need my sleep as much as I need works outs!

Wish me luck in finaly getting back to normal!

Susan

Good Luck Susan! I think we all have times like that, when life gets so crazy that something has to give. I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things in no time. :)

Hey Susan. Don't feel bad. It happens.

The difference is that you are taking a TEMPORARY break due to a busy schedule where the folks you are talking about claim that to be their excuse for every day of every week of every year!!!

My thoughts exactly - there really no excuse never to exercise!

Yup! I mean really...what does it take to do something for 30 mins 3x per week? The thing is that you have to make it a priority and most won't do that because they don't enjoy exercise. Well, they haven't met Cathe yet, have they!? :7

Susan, I'm totally with you. I work out catch as catch can, mostly on weekends. I try to squeeze in about 10 mins. on week nights before dinner. For example: shoulders and biceps from Power Hour take 10 mins. Triceps and abs take 10 mins. I do cardio on Saturdays and Sundays, and do another full body workout over the weekend. My priorities are Work, Sleep and then Exercise. I will always choose sleep over exercise, because I honestly think it's more important.

Just remember that 15 mins. of cardio is better than nothing. Ten minutes of strength every day can add up to a full body WO by the end of the week. A little bit goes a long way.

Good luck!

Hang in there Susan. We all experience those crazy times. I, too have been experiencing a crunch in my workout time this summer. I find that when I do get some workout time, I usually hit it pretty hard. My will and motivation is just that much stronger.

I'm guilty of the same thing Susan. I let the entire month of June go by with little more than 3 hours of exercise. That's unexcusable! I feel like I'm back on track now but I need to get over thinking that if I can't spare an hour I can't get it worked into my day at all. The advise of the others in this thread is very good - everyone can spare 30 minutes or even 10 minutes to do something! (I need one of those big Nike posters that say JUST DO IT!) :)

YES! I find myself feeling the same way about some people, but I typically find that it's with people that are out of shape and over weight and COMPLAINING about their condition...and no matter what you suggest to them, they have a reason why it won't work for them. I actually asked one person "do you watch TV?" They were confused so i asked them again "when you go home every evening, do you watch TV?" They said yes. I asked how many hours they watched TV and they said something like "a couple hours" and I said "well, you don't HAVE time for TV, you're making time for TV every night...and that's what you have to do with exercise - MAKE time for it. And if you have two hours to watch TV, then you have two hours that you could fit exercise into." ...needless to say, they didn't appreciate my wisdom!}(

I do think that people's bodies change though. I've noticed with myself that I exercised regularly all last year while I was going through a super rough schedule of working full time and working on my Master's and now I have basically nothing on my plate and for the past 3-6 months I've struggled to stay in a workout routine; low to no energy...that sort of thing. I was so concerned that I went for a physical to make sure there wasn't something wrong with me!

Ultimately, I think our body let's us know when it needs a "vacation" so don't be hard on yourself! I think everyone goes thru this stage at one time or another! (I just wish I could break out of mine!!!!hahaha:7 ) I'm with you too - sleep is something I value greatly...it's very close to the tippy top of my priority list for sure!

Thank you all SO much!! Such great ideas! I always think if I don't have at least 40min I can't workout. I will try to put all the suggestions to good use!

Thanks again!
Susan

Wow, this thread is exactly what I needed! I desperately need an extra rest day so that I can sleep extra, but I feel guilty about taking it.

Thanks to you all and this thread, I will be sleeping in tomorrow morning, and I will not feel guilty about it!!

Oh good heavens no! At work we have this road by us that is built with no businesses on it yet, and not much work being done. Everyone at work does the loop, which takes about 15 minutes, some twice a day.
Not at the same time, because break time is different for everyone. One group was out there last winter when it was below zero(not me, I am a wimp). I think that 15 minutes is sometimes the best stress buster of my day, not my early morning hour long work-outs.
