I have rediscovered the Pure Strength Series

I was doing the November Cathe rotation and so far this month I haven't done anything formal.

This a.m. I had a need for some serious weight lifting and decided to try Pure strength Chest/shoulder/tricep. I LOVED IT. I got it at least three years ago, maybe more, and I was not advanced enough. There wasn't any Cathe beginner stuff except for the Wedding Video.

This a.m. I felt so worked out. I loved the faster lifting speed, and I like how it's a strength and definition workout. Cathe's form is so perfect in this one and she is so cute in that short hairstyle.

Cedie is in this too and she looks great. They both look great - I swear those two have the secret to eternal youth.

Now I'm thinking of doing a P/S and Gymstyle rotation.

Anyone else still use these? I may have to get these on DVD now.

I still feel like Pure Strength is the gold standard of all strength workouts, although Gym Styles does give it a run for the money. One thing I really like is that it gives you the best definition for the time spent. The UB workouts are very time efficient and can be combined with cardio. I like the length of rests, too-not too short or long.

It's funny you should mention this right now. I too just recently got into this series. I've had it for awhile, but just never really used it. Well, last month I thought I had to justify it's existence in my collection, so I put it in a rotation and now I just absolutely love it! I've been doing the upper body pieces of it for about six weeks, and have had pretty good results. It definitely is an efficient series. I like to use it in a CTX-like way (30 to 45 minutes of cardio, followed by a couple of PS upper body parts).

Pure Strength has the BEST lower body workout! I love this series, it's no nonsense and very effective.

I'm using Pure Strength this week combined with the weight work from the CTX series. I'm only doing this for a week before I leave to visit family. I found an old rotation on the yaya's website. I'm enjoying it and may try to continue this rotation for a couple of weeks in January. Due to time and the fact that it is a lot of work I don't think I could last longer than a couple of weeks. We'll see. Anyway, I'm enjoying Pure Strength this week. I enjoy coming back the oldies but goodies!

PS remains my most favorite strength series, even though I've been using GS a lot more lately. I love those T-bar rows in the back segment. I sometimes add those in my GS-BB workout when I have more time. I think combining PS and GS in a rotation would be a great idea! I don't use PS-Legs anymore because I'm not looking to bulk up in the lower body, but if I were, I'd be reaching for PS-Legs a lot since I can use more weights for the shorter sets.

I just pulled these out also - I haven't done them in years. I needed some shorter workouts with the kids and DH home for the holidays and thought these would be perfect. Great workouts!

I actually bought the PS series with the vhs sale. I was thinking of using them in a rotation in Jan. Is there an old rotation with just PS? And what is the deal- are you supposed to use them 3 weeks on and one week off? That is what I was going to do. Deanie:)

I really like the PS series, though I do prefer the slower count from S&H. I've been doing 4wk rotations of PS, and then switching to S&H for 4 wks. So far, so good. (I had tried the Gym Series, but forget what I liked about these other 2 better. I will add the Gym Series back in, at some point though!)

I remember seeing an old PS rotation from fitnessvideo fanatics that was alternating days of a Pure Strength tape with a one hour cardio, like IMAX, Step Works, etc. for a 6 day period. 3 weights days, 3 cardio days. It sounds good to me! You could also tack on a 30 minute run or step/kickbox before either PS upper tape.

What a coincedence! I too have started using PS this week. I did 2 weeks of Muscle Max, 2 weeks of BFL and I am planning on 2 weeks of PS, followed by 2 weeks of Musle Endurance.. These are my favorite Cathe workouts.

What is BFL? Your rotation looks good. Did you do the weight lifting 2 or 3 times a week? (Obviously PS was 3) :) Deanie:)

BFL is Body For Life ( Bill Philips). It is basically using the Pyramid style of lifting, drop sets etc. If you have Cathe's Pyramid workouts, it basically is the same. I always do 3 weight days and 3 cardio days, sometimes if I feel up to it I add another cardio w/o on to a weight day.

Thanks. I'm going to keep this in mind. In Jan. I'd like to do PS and cardio for 3 weeks and then one week of circuits then do it all again in Feb. But I like your rotation for the future. Deanie:)
