i am dying to do cardio kicks but i have a cold. yesterday i was very tired and thirsy(so i decided it was not alergies), itchy nose, tearing eyes but not a stuffy nose. today i have all the other semptoms except being tired and not as much thirsty. can i still workout? also i have to drink alot of water during and after workout because of epilepsy.

You really need to listen to your body. If you have the energy to workout, then by all means, workout. However if you feel it will wear you down, don't do. I know it sounds "belittling" to say that but really that is the best advice I have to offer.

We all need LOTS of water to stay on top of our form while working out. A person can dehydrate very quickly while working out in the summer time.

What Deborah said!

Here's what I read in my Shape magazine this weekend (in a nutshell):
Don't force yourself if you're too tired. However, the endorphins that your body produces during exercise act as a natural decongestant, so it may actually help you feel better. If you have a fever, however, rest up. Your body is busy fighting infection.

Hi:

I have a cold right now, too, YUCK! Anyway, I read your post and the answers so I thought I'd give it a try. I did IMAX1 because that's the first tape on the August Rotation (which looks like an awesome rotation) and it went very well. I did have to drink more water and sometimes it was a little harder to breath because my lungs have some extra "junk" in them, but all-in-all it was a great workout.

I came to the conclusion that before when I wasn't feeling good with a cold and did an earlier Cathe step tape that wasn't quite as intense I felt worse. Maybe those hard intervals kicked my immune system into gear and helped me find some extra energy.

Good luck, Marcia :)

When I have a cold, I do Interval Max; get all sweaty and nasty; and push hard to feel like I am going to keel over. The misery of the workout takes my mind off the misery of the cold.

But, you should probably follow Deborah's approach, that is, listen to your body. I wouldn't really recommend my strategy (my disclaimer)! : )

Well, I still have my cold - darn it!!! But, according to the August Rotation I had to do BodyMax today!!! UGH! Well, I gave it a try and things were going really good, I modified a few times to get some extra water. I had trouble with the situps, though, the minute I laid down my head filled up with gunk and I started coughing all the time. So, needless to say, I had to cut those short.

I hope you are doing better with your cold. :) Marcia

i also did a hard tape and it helped alot. my friends told me to drink hot tea with honey and lemon. i think that helped too.:)

i am much better. i was worried because i would have to drink twice as much because of epilepsy. :)

Could your cold or congestion have anything to do with the headaches you talk about in your other post? Sinus congestion does cause pressure, which could make headaches more likely.

;( This past Friday I was coughing at work and my chest felt really tight, so I knew I was coming down with something. Since I went to the DR. on Saturday, he prescribed me an antibiotic and I have not worked out since Friday, Arghhhh! I miss doing my Cathe workouts and don't dare to do them just yet, seeing Bootcamp was next on my rotation!x(

Hi,

here's the strategy for colds that has worked for me:

If I have a fever I always rest. If it is mostly just a cold and I'm feeling tired, then I rest for the first few days, often 2 or 3. Then I go back to exercising - and I find that helps me cut the cold short. Probably the exercise pushes your body to decide that it doesn't have time to be ill :)

I've also heard if it's all in your head (no pun intended!) that it is okay to exercise. If it goes below the neck into the chest, you need to cool it! But, as always, listen to what your body is telling you which is the BEST indicator of all. Hope you are feeling better.
