I Hate Cardio - May 30

August

Cathlete
Morning and welcome back!

It's been lonely without everyone. ;(

I did my KPC this morning - do you guys whack yourself when you flurry or is it just me? x( and then after that, well, you all know I had my pancake!!

I think Michele, you're right. I'm going to up my calories by 100 and see what happens. In doing so, I had to tweak ALLLLLLL my menus again which was such a PITA (pain), so I was up all night...in a flurry, haha. Plus, in doing so, I found out that the nutrient content of a banana on Fitday is much different than on CalorieKing. x( I'm not sure what to make of that.

Anyway, I'm totally sleepy now, but at least my menus are ready :D

I've got to figure out another rotation from next week...what to do what to do...

Did everyone have a great long weekend?

Hi Haters!!

August,

I love KPC...never whacked myself yet though. I should give you my recipe for protein pancakes. Well I have been right on track with my eating and workouts. My weight is behaving now, but I kind of do expect it to go up with my bulking rotation...not any specific rotation...just what I have done in the past which is basically work arms one day, chest/back another, but I do want to include more leg work then I use to.

Have fun sweating up a storm everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charlotte~~

Good morning haters! I'm back after a long weekend. I weighed myself this morning and after 1 week doing BFL I've lost 4lbs! :)

August, although I don't completely understand your #'s, congrats on your loss!

Somehow, I've messed up my back. (again) The week before Thanksgiving, I fell down our steps and I think I broke my tailbone (didn't go to the dr) and ever since, my back has been giving me trouble. I was vaccuming yesterday and when I went to pull the vaccum back, yowza! It is always the left side of my lower back. I took Gabe to Knoebel's Amusment Park on Saturday and we went on a wild roller coaster along with some other rides and I'm wondering if that is the cause of my back pain? Needless to say, I didn't workout yesterday. It was supposed to be lower body. I don't know how long it will take me til it feels better. Last time I did this it was when I was doing the warm up of KM and it took like 3 weeks til it felt back to normal.

Anyway, here's what I did this weekend: Fri was supposed to be u/b but I didn't have time so I did it on Sat (u/b portion of Body Max). Sunday was supposed to be rest but since I was a day behind I did HIIT on the elliptical at 6:00 am. Felt so good to get it done and out of the way. Today is technically HIIT but it is going to be over 90 degrees here so no way!!! Sunday was my "free" day and I ate so bad (but it tasted so good }( )

My meals for today are:
1: old fashioned oatmeal w/splenda, cinnamon, blueberries and 3 turkey sausage links
2: 1/2 c. ff cottage cheese, 1 banana
3: grilled chicken breast, potatoes w/fresh rosemary, red peppers and onions, and broccoli
4: 1/2 c. ff cottage cheese, strawberries
5: extra lean hamburger (no bun), baked potato, green beans
6: either a shake or a myoplex lite bar

How was everyone's long weekend? What did I miss since I haven't been on the computer since Friday.

Char-Char: nice to see you here!

Be back later . . .

Good morning everybody!

Well, I was baaaaaad all weekend. I really didn't do any of my planned work outs. DH and I went for a couple of walks and that's about it for exercise so I really have to kick it into gear today. I was supposed to do LIS yesterday (I didn't) and today is Total Boday Sculpting. Should I do both of them today or just reorganize my rotation and change my rest day? Any advice is welcome.

August, I'll be interested to see what happens with the ^ in cals. Have you ever looked at this website: http://sparkpeople.com/resource/main.asp? I use it occasionally when I want to check proper form for certain exercises. They have great exercise demo's along with all kinds of diet/nutrition stuff. I've never done KPC and I have no idea what a "flurry" is.

Char Char, I was so happy to see you back here! You've been missed. How's the job going? Good luck with your bulking rotation. I'm glad your eating and weight are on track.

Dana, WOO HOO!!!!! Wow, you lost 4 lbs in a week. I've never had that kind of luck, although I'm not complaining about my 1/2 to 1 lb loss every week. How many cals do you eat in a day? I'm curious about this HIIT. How exactly are you doing that? Do you just do intervals on your elliptical? Do you think the blasts in LIS count as HIIT? Talk about eating, DH and I ate pretty well all weekend then it all fell apart yesterday. I won't even tell you how bad I ate--lol!

Okay girls, I need to read a few other posts and then get going. I'll be back later, and hopefully I'll see Kate, MJ, JanJan, and Diane. I hope you all had a great weekend.

Hey there,

Charlotte - Thanks, actually, my pancake IS a protein pancake - egg whites, oatmeal, banana and organic peanut butter - and dang it's so good! Anyway, glad to hear things are well with you.

Dana - WOOO HOOO! Congrats to you, girl! Sounds like you're really working that program! Oh man, I've had back trouble before and that is just not pretty at all. I hope you get all better soon. Remember - no leg crossing!

Michele - Thanks for the link. I did sign up with Sparkspeople for a bit but then I was totally bombarded with email from them LOL! Anyway, maybe I'll look again. But I've finally gotten around to programming everything into fitday by grams now. What a pain in the butt that was!...Oh, you don't have KPC? It's totally fun! You should get it! A flurry is...well, how in the world can I explain a flurry? Imagine picking up a fire-hot boiled egg just out of boiling water and bouncing it back and forth to each of your hands so as not to break it and not get burnt. That's what it looks like at least. Heh. Don't forget to whack your face while you're doing it. At least that's what I like to do.

All right, tomorrow is ME again, but I've got to leave my place on the early side so I'm going to have to scurry. It's going to be a long day tomorrow and I'm wondering how my 5 meals are going to last, even if the calories are a tad higher.

Later!

Morning!
When I get going this morning, I am doing LowMax and some Abs..when I get going. Yes, when I am able to move I am doing LowMax. When I get going.
I am trying my best to do the pushups but yesterday I fell off my stability ball and now a huge bruise on my thigh. I just cannot spend a day without some stupid minor injury! But that won't stop me because I have LowMax today. Yes, LowMax. When I get going. LowMax.
Yes, that pancake sounds good. Sounds best with some bosenberry syrup. Lots of butter. STOP me. I am trying to eat much better. You know, no goodies. Yes, LowMax. Lowmax. When I get going.

Kate - sorry to hear you fell off your ball. Enjoy low-max today!

Aug - I just uncrossed my legs when I read your post. Such a habit!

Michele - I had no idea at all how many calories I was eating. So I logged all my meals for today at Sparkspeople. Today I am consuming 1526 calories, 147 gr of carbs, 35 gr fat and 110gr protein. I should try to do that every morning. I eat pretty much the same things everyday day so I can't imagine that there will be a significant jump in calories??? I think I"ll try it for this week and see.

OK, back to work!

Hi Kate! Now, what is it you're doing today?--lol! I'm worried about you and your propensity to injure yourself. You better move EVERYTHING way out of your path while working on that ball--lol! I'm afraid you're going to whack your head on a table or something  :p

August, that's good to know. I've never actually signed up at Sparkspeople, I just look at the exercise demos, but it would drive me out of my mind to be inundated with junk email.

Dana, I can't believe I forgot to mention your back injury. Jeez, I hope the pain subsides quickly. There's just nothing worse than that. My low back has been a little stiff lately and I spent the entire weekend stretching it out--no joke. I'll bet I took 4 or 5 stretch breaks everyday over the 3 day weekend. It helped but I'm still a little stiff and achy.

All right haters,

While I am always glad for a weekend, I could not wait for this one to end. I was going nuts. We did NOTHING....alll......weekend.....I was so bored. The rain was bad all weekend and we got hit kindofa hard on Sun morning. It was nuts. My DH was just a drag all weekend and it was covered in bad food. I feel like a** from all of it. I had to lay down the law finally and tell him no more crap in the house and there is only 1 dinner served at night, no more 1 for you and 1 for me. He can either eat good, or go find another home to eat dinner at. Bottom line, well the bottom line is my bottom line. Strange thing is I did not even gain a lb??? I am like what???? I felt horrid all weekend, no energy and just blah. I am so over it.

Enough ranting, how is everyone? Dana sounds like you are kicking booty on your program. Congrats. Keep up the great work. August, ummm...LOVE the pancake. I made a few tweeks to it, I add 1 TSB of protein powder and then sprinkle a little splenda on it just for a sweetness. Can we say yummy!

Michele~HIIT is really challenging. Basically you go from level 5-10 in intervals. Example, 1st 3 mins level 5, next min level 6, next min level 7, level 8, level 9, and then back to level 5. For your last 2 mins you push it up to levels 9 and 10. It rocks. You really need a dreamill, bike or trainer to do it. Blast don't really count, sorry. Blasts do kick your behind them and they do make a big difference in a workout.

Ok I have to run and get ready. It's our first day of swim lessons for DD. I am sooo excited. Here is a littl funny...we go to the Ken Lay YMCA, everyone know who that is???...HELLO ENRON CEO!!! JUST FOUND GUILTY!!! I have to laugh everytime I go there. I am going to ask if they are going to rename the place! Can you believe I almost worked there, man that would have been a bad move.

Have a good day everyone!

LOL! They should never name stuff after people until they die! I remember when I lived in Cincinnati they had named a street after Pete Rose, and then he was nailed for betting on baseball. There was a huge debate about whether or not to change the name of the street.

Sorry your weekend sucked. Ours wasn't terribly exciting. We ate pretty decent until yesterday. We had very hot (in the 90's) and humid weather. I HATE that! I can't wait to hear all about your DD's swim lesson. Have a good one and I'll see you later.

Hi Everyone -

Dana - Congrats on the weight loss! That is a big accomplishment in a week. I hope your back feels better soon, that is the worst feeling.

Jana - Sorry that you had a yucky weekend. It didn't rain much on my side of town, so I couldn't believe when I saw on the news that there was flooding. I'm also glad to hear you laid down the law at home, you go girl.

Michele - Sounds like you had a fun weekend, not a BAD weekend :) I say either extend your rotation a couple more days and just do the workouts but don't worry about doing them on the same day if you really don't have time.

August - I really need to try to this pancake now, I forgot this weekend.

Kate - be careful with your workouts girl! We don't want any major injuries :)

Well, I had a wonderful holiday weekend. We saw a couple movies (Da Vinci Code and MI 3), got some projects done we have been needing to do for a long time, saw my parents who came through town, and had a grill out with DH's parents. DH's parents gave us an older outdoor grill of theirs and we grilled for the first time at our house! It was so much fun and so much cheaper than eating out for dinner. I ran for 30 min Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then Monday I did a 30 min Mindy Mylrea strength workout (part of Strength Toolbox).

One of the main reasons that it was such a relaxing weekend is that my house is finally in order thanks to flylady.net , which I found out about a little more than a week ago. My house was usually always a total mess (even though we have a housekeeper), and it was so stressful having people over because it would take hours to clean up to get ready for company. But we didn't even have to do anything to the house before DH's parents came over because it was already clean. Just a few minutes a day of cleaning and decluttering, I love the idea. Anyway, just thought I would share. I'm sure everyone already has their own little system, and maybe no one is a slob like me, but this system finally clicked for me, and its free.

Diane, your weekend sounds fabulous! Major kudos for your weekend runs. You seemed so forlorn last week about getting behind and it sounds like you're back on track again. YAY you!!!

Okay, I've bee hearing a lot about flylady. Did you subscribe to the website or have you been reading her book? I tried to subscribe to the website but had to cancel it because I was immediately deluged with scads of emails. I thought that was a little ironic since she's supposed to help you de-clutter your home/life. Anyway, Judy, who occasionally posts in the <--- thread, is a flybaby and has said it made a huge difference in her home and life. My house is a MESS!!!! I should probably look into the flylady again.

Ok swim lessons were a wash out. Rain, rain and more rain. While I do like rain, I wanted DD to swim so hopefully it will clear out by tomorrow. Geeze all ready. DD got her first swim lesson just trying to get to the door from the car. It was coming down! It was funny. She looks soooo cute in her bathing suits. Oh well. Already did the cardio this morning, going to move on to GS Tri's (no chest today) and GS Bic's (no back and shoulder that is tomorrow). Then back to more coremax. And yes, I am in the push up challenge. I do the holds first and then I do 3 set's of 12 on the ball. After reading what HB said it is better to skip the kness and move onto the ball while you are on your shins. However, easier said than done when you are a total klutz. I took a nose dive on Sunday. It was not pretty.

Michele - I started with just the website but I purchased the book for overstock.com and haven't gotten it in the mail yet. The book just summarizes the website, so not necessary. Yes you get tons and tons of emails, which she warns about but I was surprised how many there were, about 15 a day. About 5-6 of them are repeat email reminders you get everyday. About 8 of them are testimonials, and then there are some other missions or ideas of things to do, about 2 emails. So I just delete the repeaters (looking at the re: line is enough of a reminder) and read the testimonals that look interesting (some of them are too "Oprah-esk" for me - I was abused and therefore I hate my body, etc.). I may end up getting off the email chain too, you don't need to emails to do the system.

I can save you some time and summarize the whole system for you.

The basis of the whole flylady system is making daily cleaning a habit, and therefore, she sends tons of reminders so that you do it every day and it becomes a habit. There is a section for "flybabies" who are new to the system that gives them a new habit to do each day to build up slowly, not doing too much at one time and getting overwhelmed. I personally got too excited and have done a lot more than recommended. Here are some of the main ideas:

1. You are supposed to start a "control journal" which contains your morning and evening cleaning routines, you weekly cleaning schedule, finances, important phone numbers etc. I am still working on building my control journal, and added a budget and finances to it this weekend. So everything important is in that one binder which is always out ready to use.

2. The first project she has to you is shine your sink. If you sink it clean, that means all the dishes are put up and the kitchen is probably clean. Clean your sink every night as part of your evening routine.

3. Another thing she thinks is important is the "dress to the shoes" each morning, so that you feel more awake and professional all day, and ready for anything. This doesn't really apply to me since I work and HAVE to get dressed, but it does apply to me on the weekends, and got me up out of bed and ready to go this weekend.

4. The system also splits the house into zones which you focus on during certain weeks of the month, decluttering and doing detailed cleaning. Right now is the living room, and in a couple days we start the month over again and move to the front entrance/porch.

5. Another big part of the system is the use of timers - You set the timer for 15 minutes and declutter the current zone of the house as much as you can during that time. You just stop when you are done, and don't worry about finishing. Just doing a little at a time makes you not feel like you are doing as much, and it is more fun for me.

6. The biggest change for me was learning how to alway pick up after myself. I know that sounds elementary, but just getting into the habit of putting things away as you get them out made the biggest difference and I have barely anything to clean if I do that.

Here are my routines, adapted to fit my schedule:

Morning Routine:
- make bed as soon as you get out of it
- go to the kitchen and make coffee and start breakfast
- 2 minutes of "hot spot" cleaning (the areas that always seem to get cluttered - my is my front entrance table and breakfast bar in the kitchen)
- empty the dishwasher
- 5 min room rescue (start the timer and just pick a room and start cleaning)
- exercise and shower
- do the "swish and swipe" meaning, wipe down my bathroom counter and toilet after I get ready. I just keep a bottle of all purpose spray and paper towels and it takes about 5 seconds

Before bed routine
- Kitchen: shine sink, lay out clean dishtowel, run the dishwasher if needed
- 2 min hot spots
- 15 min declutter (or detailed cleaning if already decluttered) of zone of the week
- cool down time (bath, reading, get ready for bed, etc)
- go to bed EARLY and same time every night

My housekeeper does some of the weekly cleaning, so I don't have to do that, but vaccumming, dusting etc. is still only an hour a week on Mondays under the system. She also recommends doing laundry every morning, but I just don't have that much laudry (wear suits everyday) and I do it on Sunday.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Thanks Diane! I'm going to have to do it. My house is a nightmare. We have a nice size home but we don't have an attic or a basement. We also have a shortage of closets and the pones we do have are small. DH and I almost got into it over the closet in our bedroom because it's packed to the brim with his stuff and there's no room for any of my things. We had a California Closet system installed and it really didn't make any difference. We still have too many things for too small a closet *sigh*.

My kitchen counter and table are piled high with crap; mail, pens, bits of junk I don't know what to do with, etc. I would be a good candidate for the show that used to be on TLC--Clean Sweep I think--lol! My DH won't throw ANYTHING away. I have to pitch his stuff little by little when he's not home. We have ancient patio furniture that I want to replace and DH is hesitant to throw it away, even though it's coming apart at the seams and is completely faded. It looks like crap! Oh well, Rome wasn't conquered in a day--lol!

JanJan, sorry your DD didn't get to swim:-( . Rain is so dreary, I hate it, even though we need it. Hopefully the sun will shine bight later on.

Michele - We have the same problem with storage. Our house is older, we bought it for the "character", but there were not walkin closets in those days. So no good storage for us either, just small bedroom closets is all we have. Here is the link for how to declutter:

http://www.flylady.net/pages/FLYingLessons_Declutter.asp

I think she had a great idea to having a box for donations when you declutter. You just really have to get rid of things if you don't use them, no use taking up the space. Throw it in the box and once it gets full, put it in your car and take it to a donation place. I got hundreds off of my taxes donating last year because we did this during the moving process. But I know there are still other things that we didn't donate that we should have.

Also, one thing flylady says is that you can't organize clutter. So no Container Store organization gadgets are going to help if you just have clutter to deal with. Once you get rid of the clothes you don't need and get stuff out of the closet that shouldn't be there in the first place, you will probably actually enjoy your nice california closet.

Jan-Jan: I was so ready to hear about DD swimming. Sorry it was washed out. Yesterday I tried to put Gannon on the slip and slide - I just sat him at the top and he screamed. And no I wasn't going to send him down the slide!!!

Diane: sounds like your cook out was fun. What did you make? I love my grill, no clean up afterwards!

Michele: I used to belong to flylady and quit due to the e-mails. They are worse then sparkspeople. Didn't help me out at all. I hate to clean - there is no hope for me.

Just took a walk and I feel disgusting! It is well over 90 degrees and I'm so sweaty - YUK!!!!!

My co-worker told me that he son ran a race yesterday. It was at least 95 degrees and he ran the 5 miles in 28 minutes. I'd die!

I love it when you folks can type so much. My fingers start to tire. I think I need a workout for my hands. Maybe I should ask Honeybunch, maybe not, she will probably double the push-ups.

Hi Dana - We made hamburgers and hot dogs }( yummy. And then I ate leftovers on Monday, }( So not the healthiest eating weekend. So I ate a salad and fruit for lunch today to make up for it. I hate to clean too, but finally getting my house in some sort of order got me really excited and I want to try and keep it that way. I like having the little routines, I need a lot of structure and someone just telling me what to do for me to get anything done. But the emails are definitely annoying and could be cut down.

Well this day was a total bust for me. I became nauseous and started worshipping the porcelain god early this afternoon. I laid down and slept until 5:30 PM:eek:. It just came on very suddenly. I'm still a little queasy but I managed to eat some plain pasta for dinner. Obviously, I didn't get my work out in. ;( x( . I'm going to make a cup of tea and hit the sack. I'll "see" you gals in the morning.
