I Hate Cardio - May 24

August

Cathlete
Goooooood morning!

Thanks everyone for your encouragement about the muscle gain!

Well, I did my Bootcamp and I had my oatmeal egg white banana recovery pancake. Good Lord, that thing is good. It literally makes me want to do my cardio. :9

Diane - Sounds like you're getting ready to set up a plan for yourself to start up on your workouts again! But definitely skip the part about feeling mad at yourself. The past is done so look ahead! We're wishing you lots of lovely cardio! Michele's right, I'll bet you'll snap back to your level in no time at all.

Kate - Of what would a klutz-off consist? Is there a chance that teeth might get broken?

Michele - Congratulations to you for such great cholesterol readings! You must feel great. Wow, and you did your LIS! Go girl! Oh and hey, thanks for the egg white response.

Dana - Great for you for accomplishing the start of your new program on BFL! The first week is always the hardest - that breaking of old, evil habits and all x( . You sound energized. Cookies & Cream bar...ooohhh, man, that sounds really good. All those really yummy-sounding bars aren't available where I am, but I was able to find the Myoplex MRP. I did a little research on it and it sounds really good - I'm just concerned if it has aspartame in it or not and I can't seem to find the current ingredient info! I posted on the open discussion, so hopefully someone will know.

MJ - You mean when you close, you start your work day an hour or two later than usual? Woo hoo! So what did you end up doing?

Okay, I guess that's it for now. I got three different comments from three people I know who I haven't seen in a few months ask me if I'm doing something because I look younger and more fit than when they saw me last. This came as a surprise because although I believe there's been a change in my body, I thought it was so slight that nobody could really notice yet. Talk about inspirational!

Where's that Bodymax of mine }( ? Just kidding. ;-)

Hi August, Kate, Dana, JanJan, MJ, and Diane:

I've been up and wide awake ALL NIGHT LONGx( ;( . I could not sleep to save myself last night and DH's incessant snoring didn't help matters any. I went out to the couch but no luck.

My brother is having surgery this morning to repair a herniated disc in his lumbar spine area so any and all prayers, thoughts, vibes would be appreciated.

I have LIS on my plate again today. If...IF I get to it, it won't be until this evening. If I did it now I'd probably trip over the step, win the Klutz contest, but kill myself in the process--lol!

I'm beat...I'm going to lay down for awhile.

I'm sorry, I'm just too tired to post to each person today, but I wish you all well and I think you gals are the greatest!

Morning ladies.

Michele I'm sorry you had such a crappy sleepless night. Last week Thurs/Fri/Sat I had the same thing - Gannon was sick and wouldn't sleep. I think you better get some rest before trying to do LIS. Could you take today as your rest day and start fresh tomorrow with LIS? I will most certainly keep your brother in my prayers. Please let us know how he is doing.

August: wow, isn't that a great feeling when you get such compliments? You sure are doing something right aren't you? I do believe that the Myoplex shakes have aspartame in it. The E.A.S. shakes I drink have Splenda in them. (not really sure if that is better)

Jana, Diane, Kate & MJ: what is up with you ladies today?

Last night I did upper body (used the BFL book). Today is lower body and abs and a walk of course :). My eating has been great so far. Today is like this:

1: 3 turkey sausage links, barley w/splenda & cinnamon
2: Myoplex Lite bar
3: soup (made w/1 can ff chicken broth, 1/2c barley, chicken breast, spinach, tomatoes and a handful of mixed veggies)
4: E.A.S. shake
5: 1/2c. ground turkey breast, 1 c. whole wheat pasta, tomatoes
6: ff cottage cheese mixed with ff yogurt
100+oz water

Have a great day all of you in cardiohatersville!

Hello Ladies -

August - Congrats on your progress, you know you are doing well if other people are noticing. Where did you get the recipe for this recovery pancake? Sounds good.

Michele - I'm sorry you couldn't get any rest last night. Maybe you are worried about your brother and just couldn't get that off your mind. My step-father, who is really my second dad to me, had the same surgery in his upper spine about a month and 1/2 ago. We were very worried because they originally thought that he had a tumor on his spine! We were freaking out for about 3 weeks thinking he has cancer, but then a second MRI showed that it was just a herniated disk, which, while painful, is not life threatening. He is almost completely recovered now and is on a cruise with my mom and some friends!! It was pretty scary though going into surgery, just because they are working so close to the spine, but just trust that everything will be okay.

Dana - Good job so far on the BFL. I love hearing your daily menu, I like seeing what other people eat to get some ideas. I really lost weight on this program several years back, so you are making me think about trying the eating plan again, but adding some more carbs once I start running longer.

Today I did a 25 min run/walk before work. I lost a lot of endurance, I had to walk a lot at the end, but at least I am doing something, and it shouldn't take me too long to get back to 30 minutes straight again hopefully. I am going to try to do ME tonight, or maybe one of the CIA videos I bought the other day, but American Idol is tonight and that just might win out. I got several CIA videos for $4 each the other day, looks like they were trying to liquidate their video stock.

Opening shift=8:30-5
Closing shift=1-9:30

Today is a closing day (only one a week, usually), so I've got CTX upper one deck for the day, maybe some KPC depending on how much "butt glue" I get on the computer!!

MJ

Hello everyone,

Well I am here. Yesterday was a crazy day and time just got away from me. I think I was still passed out from all the student loan debt I have.

August~ you MUST send the pancake rec...I must know...it sounds soooo yummy! yumy, yum! Compliments are fantastic! It is really nice for some one to make a comment about changes in your apperance. I think it helps realize your hard work is paying off. Keep up the good work. And keep us updated on your progress. If the BFFM works for you then I might break down and try it.

Michele~ ohhh.....
18.gif

so sorry to hear you could not sleep. Man, oh man I don't like when that happens. I do hope you get some well needed sleep. I remember when DD was born, oh lord I got to sleep about 3 hours at night and that was it, I was miserable. I need sleep, I am a sleeper! I am sending good vibes for the surgery. Mucho prayers too. Please let us know the update from the surgery. Hopefully you will be there to take care of the patient. Nurse Michele! I do sincerely hope the surgery is a success and again sending prayers. If you do get to LIS today I want to hear all about it.

Dana~ sounds like you are right on track. I did the HITT cardio again yesterday, granted all I can do is walk, but I was up on the incline most of the time, I think my 5 is at a 6-7% incline and my 10 was as high as the dreadmill could go. HIIT is crazy, it's like hard but you get so into it. Today when I attempted the injured lady cardio kicks, I was out of energy after about 30 mins which is not like me at all. I actually had to stop and eat. It was crazy. Keep up the hard work.

Diane~ ok so you had a death in your family and you were swamped at work and you got off track...girl, by any means don't be dissapointed in yourself. Life comes at you fast and there are things you just can't control. You do the best you can and if you slip off track, just know today is a new day and it is a new chance to start again. I do understand how you feel since the knee injury I have not been able to really do any weights on my legs and I can feel the difference and I do not like it one bit. It is frustrating. I do hope as things start to settle down you will be able to get back on track.

Kate~ you crack me up. What can I say! Did you get some cardio in today?

MJ~ stadium stairs count, and the beers count as weights too...heheheee....!!!!!

Ok so I am off. I will check back in later. Have a good day everyone

JanJan

Diane I'm proud of you for doing 25 minutes. You will be back to your normal routine in no time at all! *high-5*

Jana - I"m looking forward to when school is out so I can use our exercise equipment here. In the BFL book, Bill Phillips likes to do his HIIT on the exercise bike (which I used to do when I belonged to the gym). I think I"ll alternate my HIIT by using the elliptical one day, the recumbment bike another day and the Dreadmill the last day.

It's almost 11:30 here so I"m going to get on my sneakers and head out for a walk. Oh I don't feel like working today! }(

Hey there!

Michele - Usually a sleepless night means one thing - fabulous sleep the next night! I hope it comes your way. And I'm sending good vibes for your brother's surgery to go well. That would certainly keep me up all night with worry.

Dana - How is Gannon? I hope he feeling better. Congrats to you for keeping up with your good eating! I like reading what you eat, too. It gives me some good ideas.

Diane - You know, I have no idea where I picked up my banana oatmeal pancake recipe. It might have been off of some bodybuilding forum. I actually just posted the recipe elsewhere, but I'll copy it here, too, in case you're curious! By the way, that's great that you started up on your running again. Man, if I could run even 5 minutes straight, I'd be stoked.

MJ - Hope you got the butt glue off!

Janjan - HIIT totally scares me! That's so great that you actually enjoy it and get so into it. Speaking of stopping to eat, I've noticed - all my extra cardio makes me a hellofalot hungrier than usual.

In fact, my stomach is growling right now.

Okay, so here is the comment I posted with the recipe.

I can't wait to do my KM tomorrow (w/a couple blasts, of course!) so that I can eat my pancake!!
--------------------------------------------------

If you're used to regular pancakes, this might take some getting used to, but if you're into healthy-tasting food, this is so delicious!!

Banana Oatmeal Eggwhite Pancake

5 egg whites
30 grams oatmeal (uncooked)
100 grams (approx 1 med) banana (I like them sliced on the thick side)

8 grams organic peanut butter
Cinnamon
Cooking spray

Beat the egg whites and then mix in the oatmeal and dash of cinnamon. Then cut up the banana and mix that in, too. Spray your pan and make your pancake! (You might put the lid on it for a bit since it's a bit difficult to turn over.)

When it's done, put the peanut butter on it and chow down!

Cal = 300
C = 37 grams
P = 23 grams
F = 6 grams
fiber = 5 grams

It's a great post-cardio recovery meal. It's approximately a 50/30/20 split. Hope you like it! I'm absolutely addicted to it and it drives me to get my cardio done so I can eat it !

P.S. You can also sub the banana with 1/2 cup strawberries + 1/4 cup blueberries, and that's really good, too.

August thanks for sharing that recipe. It sounds wonderful but, alas, the PB doesn't fit into my BFL program. I think I'll make it for my free day. Don't mean to be a dufus here but what are the measurement equivalents of 30gr of oatmeal and 6gr of pb?

Oh, bummer! I'm sorry, I didn't realize that BFL restricted certain foods.

No, no, not a dufus question. My scale happens to be in grams, that's all.

Hmm. let me see...on my oatmeal box it says that 40 grams of dry oatmeal is 1/2 cup. 30 grams is a touch over 1 ounce - does that help?

As for the 8 grams of peanut butter, well, that's um,.. .28 ounces...it looks like a teaspoon or so? If you're not to eat pb, I'm sure you could find a way to get in some healthy fat in there somehow...you could use olive oil instead of cooking spray? Or you could sprinkle some almonds on top?

I have to begin with...what is BLF? Sounds like a sandwich.
August, I don't know what all those numbers mean, but it sounds really good and when someone notices, that means it is working. Very cool.
Michele, I understand your sleeping problems. I understand and am thinking of you. Being tired is really a drag. Here hoping that tonight it changes.
I don't know everyone very well yet so I don't speak to many on a daily basis because I am trying to get everything situated with what is going on with whom. So I apologize.
Today I did Pure Strength Legs (sans the floor work) with 50 mins of low impact boring sickening cardio. I am trying to punish myself for the slow week. I know!! I should buy myself a treadmill and then I can really suffer!!!!
I am so late today. A Round Robin at school today. Hard work, but the kids really love them.
A klutz off is when we all describe what klutzy stupid embarassing things we have done and how all those couch potatoes make fun of us when we are hurt. Hey, at least we are doing something.
Have a wonderful day. It is going to be 83 degrees today. Perfect!
Kate

Kate BFL stands for Body For Life which is a book written by Bill Phillips. He focuses on 6 meals a day which all must include a protein and a carb off of his list. You also add a vegetable to at least 2 meals. There is also an exercise program that goes along with the nutrition part. He recommends 3 days per week of HIIT and 2x/week upperbody, 1x/week lower body, and vice-versa the next week with weights. You get one free day per week where you rest from exercise and can eat anything you would like. (my fave part)

Did I really put BLF instead of BFL? I swear I'd lose my brain if, that is if I had one! :p

Hi everybody!

Thank you so much for all your well wishes for my brother. His surgery is over and they think what was causing all that pain was a big old bone spur on his vertebra which was irritating a nerve. The poor guy could hardly walk from the pain!

I took a big, long nap today and now I problably won't be able to sleep tonight *sigh*. I hate it when my sleep cycles get off track. It takes me a few days to get it together again.

I haven't done my work out yet. I'm still not sure if I'm going to attempt it yet this evening or if I'll make this my rest day. We'll see how I feel after dinner. Who knows, if I can't sleep tonight I might just do it at 3 AM--lol!

Dana, I just wanted to say that your meal plan looks yummy! I love barley. Are you getting your recipes from the BFL book or is this stuff you masde up yourself? I wouldn't mind having your barley recipes when you have time to post them...no hurry ;). I've heard a lot about the book but I've never read it.

It sounds like you're all doing great. I better get going here. I need to go to the grocery store and pick up something healthy for dinner. I want to try and undo the damage I did at lunch with that order of fries and peanut butter chocolate chunk cookie}( :9

ETA that when converting recipes from metric to US you really need a scale. The metric system goes by weight, not volume like the US system does. I bought a food scale a few years ago when I wanted to try the South Beach Diet and it was a very wise investment. I use it all the time. I weigh my ingredientss far more often than I measure them, especially for baking. My scale has a digital readout and will give both metric and US weights. I think the brand I have is a Salter.
