I Hate Cardio - June 19th

Good Morning everyone -

Did everyone have a good weekend? Mine was alright, though I feel very sleep deprived with this new early rising thing because of all of the parties I have had to go to. Saturday's party was actually pretty boring, but it was another one that we had to stay until the bitter end because it was our closest friend at work throwing it. I have about 25 misquito bites all over my body from all of these outdoor parties.

Today was supposed to be a run but it is pouring rain this morning so I am going to do about 45 min of Kickmax instead.

Hello everyone,

Well now the frustration of this whole surgery has set in. This weekend and last week were some of the largest challenges mentally. The knee is really stiff and am I still hobbling around like a crazy person. I was expecting to be able to get around a little better by now. Needless to say having a 2 story house has been hard. I am so behind in school and what I did actually do last week I got horrible grades. For some reason the information is not be obtained in my head. The whole thing with my mom coming into town on Friday and Sat was a complete disaster. I do not get along with her at all and she managed to do NOTHING the whole time she was here. Example, the baby was sleeping upstairs in her crib on Friday morning for nap time, my mom said she had to go to Target and I told her to be back by 11 so I could get the baby and feed her....well she did not come back until almost 12 so I had to get the baby down stairs by myself (which after taking the fall you have to understand I uneasy with that). She does nothing at all. She managed to sit her lazy behind up on my computer all day and then had the nerve to tell me when she saw me trying to sweep the floors "oh let me do that", yeah she never even made an attempt to help out. I was so ready to put her on a plane and tell her never to come back. She did the same thing when we were moving, helped out none! As crazy as things have been with the MIL she actually was a lot of help when she was here. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Now, to why I am really frustrated. Not being able to workout is not fun at all. I am so frustrated, I need the cardio and weights to get the heart rate up again and release some of this stress! I am beyond stressed out! I am not happy. I tried to get on the bike last night and it is not working out, the knee is just helping. I think I am going to attempt to life weights today, but I don't like not being able to warm up..going to send this question to Cathe and see if she can help out with ideas. I am open to sugguestions if anyone has any!

Ok, I am going to go and write the paper that should have been finished last night and will be back in later to say Hi to everyone. Sorry to be so long!!! I needed to VENT!!!!

I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Hi everybody!!

Diane, I didn't get to bed until 3 AM again!! I slept well Friday and Saturday so at least I'm making progress. My nephew is back home now but my SIL is coming Saturday for a 10 day visit. Our summers are always like this because DH's siblings live out of state and they all converge back at the family homestead every summer. That probably explains why I hate summer--lol! Oh, I started reading Sink Reflections and I'm doing my first of what will be MANY 27 Fling Boogies:). Wish me luck!! I want you to know that you are my hero and my inspiration.

Janjan, I have this overwhelming urge to come down there and take care of you. I'm officially angry with your mom and would probably slap her if I had the opportunity. I'm worried about you. What did the doctor tell you to expect in terms of swelling and stiffness? I know it can take several days for the air to expel if they pumped your knee up. Did they do that? I think you just have to take a deep breath and count to 10, Janjan. Don't overdo it because you'll just set yourself even farther behind. Can't you keep your DD donwstairs for naps until you can manage the steps? I really think you need to limit the trips up and down for now. I hope Cathe has some good suggestions for you. I'm not sure what to tell you to do for exercise except to be very careful that you don't hurt yourself.

Girls, I haven't done a workout in over a week...maybe 2 weeks. My back is much better but now I'm congested in my head and chest and have a persistent cough. I'm going to try to do LIS today anyway because I'm really afraid that I've put about 5 pounds on in the past week. We ate so much crap while DN was here. Lots of fries and sandwiches. BLECH! I need to get back on track NOW.

Okay girls, I'm off to get started and I'll check back in later. August, Dana, Kate, MJ (if you're still with us), what are you girs up to today. I didn't have a chance to catrch up with the weekend posts so I don't know what y'all did. How are we all doing on push-up? I seem to be stuck at 5.

Jana - Wow, so sorry you are going through all this! If I wasn't at work and it wasn't completely flooding in Houston, I would come help you myself. I can't imagine not trying to help out when my own daughter is hobbling around after surgery. Go to the doctor early if it doesn't seem to be healing well - the fall could have done some damage that needs to be treated. Just focus on healing, don't worry about getting in a real workout right now. One thing you could do for cardio is that arm cycle machine if you have access to a gym that has one. It is basically a bike pedal action that you do with your arms. You can really get a good cardio workout without even using your legs, and also a good arm workout. Seems like you would be able to lift upper body weights and do core work, but make sure it is all okay with your doctor first. Even cardio.

Michele - Sorry you weren't able to sleep much last night. I went to bed at 1 am last night because stupid me took a 2 hour nap during the day. But I still got myself up early this morning so that I will be tired enough to go to bed early tonight. Did you read that article I posted about becoming an early riser? He claims that it will help with insomnia. It makes a lot of sense to me - I get insomnia when I try to go to sleep but I am not totally tired. Instead, just get up and read a boring book until you are about to pass out and then go to bed. Glad you are liking sink reflections. Have fun with the 27 fling boogies. They are very motivating. Just trying to get to the right number sometimes gives you enough courage to throw out something useless you might have otherwise kept around for stupid reasons. Since I have been getting up early on the weekends now, I got all my chores done early in the morning. I got laundry done by 9 am on Sunday and finished cleaning out the garage but 8 am on Saturday! Then I just had the rest of the day to do other things.

Diane, I'm so glad you reminded me about the sleep article. I bookmarked it and intend to read it later today.

I have a FlyLady question for you. The FlyLady mentioned something about filling utensil jars with all purpose cleaner and keeping one by each toilet with a scrub brush. Have you done this? It sounds like a brilliant idea, and a nice ceramic crock would sure look a lot better than one of those plastic holders. Anyway, she didn't mention how often you should change the cleaner. What do you think? Would a month be good or is that gross? Right now I use those disposable things but man, the cost of those really adds up, especially when you have 3 toilets to clean.

Janjan, Diane made a good point. I'm wondering if you did some damage with that fall. You maybe better call your doc again. When are you scheduled for a follow-up appointment? I'm really afraid that you're blowing the top off your stress meter, too. I'm going to ponder over your circumstances and I'll let you know if I come up with any good ideas.

all of you need to be really dull, boring, blah blah blah like me so you have all the time to do your workout. I don't anything so I have all this time. Boy, have times changed thru the years. I remember when I had only time for partying--I guess I wasn't in very good shape then. Oh well.
Yesterday I did lowmax so I could do today for cardio was 17 minutes. Ugh, cardio burnout. Have you ever heard of such a thing?
I gotta take my Akita-Husdy-Doberman to the vet today for his yearly checkup. I guess they gotta get a checkup every year in order to get the heartworm meds. Gee, Michele, with all those mosquito bites, good thing we are not like dogs with the heartworm. I don't get many mosquito bites, I guess they don't like my blood. Yeah, I know I am lucky, believe me I do not take that for granted!!!
Everyone have a great day. I know it is Monday but ever since I have been home with the kids, it doesn't matter to me. How wonderful. Now...........63 days until school starts.....

Hi Michele -

I personally don't do the utensil holder with soap idea and just clean the toilet with regular toilet cleaner once a week. I do wipe down the seat and top of the toilet everyday during my swish and swipe, so I guess mine is really more of a swipe and swipe. I will eventually have a kitten again so having the cleaner out like that would not be a good idea, so I just decided not to follow that piece of advice. But I would think a month would be fine. I would probably just put a little bit of cleaner in there at a time so that just the tip of the brush is in the cleaner and refill often so that it always has some fresh soap. Then you probably don't have to dump out the whole thing and clean it as often.

Hey Diane-
I forgot to tell you I was watching 30 min meals the other day and she made "hummus" the low cal version by using chick peas, garlic and EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) so I tried it out and it acutally taste pretty good. It is only really missing the tahini, but if you want to cut the calories try it.

One more thing....duh lemon, garlic, chick peas, and EVOO...sorry forgot the lemon!

What is up with all this crazy rain???

Jana - I love Rachel Ray! That is one of our favorite shows, and I have made several of her recipes before which ususally turn out pretty good. I made hummus a while back with those same ingredients but with the tahini, it was pretty good. But I don't think I will be making hummus anytime soon because we think that somehow DH got sick from hummus this weekend. We picked some up hummus at our local mediterrean restaurant on Saturday because he was craving it as a snack. Right after he ate it, he started feeling a bit sick and ended up throwing up and having a fever that night. Even the thought of eating hummus makes him sick now, even though they are probably totally unrelated. So hummus is off the list now for a while at our house, though I love it.

This weather is crazy. It is funny - all of the lawyers showed up for work today, but all of the secretaries and other staff didn't. Bill White told employees to not be mad at anyone for missing work today, so I think a lot of people took advantage of it. I know my secretary's side of town is flooded, so not mad at her, but there are other people that live near me that didn't come in and it was fine coming to work today, just a lot of heavy rain. Unfortunately, I actually have deadlines that I need to meet, and no one is here to help us get things done! So we had to get extensions of deadlines because no one has a secretary today!! It was funny.

Oh man sorry to hear about the hummus! Yikes! poor DH, man no fun at all. I think hummus might get banned from your house for a while. I am such a Rachel Ray person, easy food that taste good. I have yet to mess up one of her rec'ps.

I saw Mayor White on the TV and started thinking of all my friend who were going to take advantage of the message from him! haha! I like you would have swam my way into work as usual! I was like the post man always at work! crazy! I hope you can get home ok today, I think most of it has passed. I have been so busy I have not had time to watch the news this afternoon.
