I feel like such a failure :(

I need some words of encouragement and probably a few kicks in the butt too. I havent done anything in the past three weeks. Im not sure what is going on. Its like I cant bring myself to do it. Im really getting annoyed at myself. Has this happened to anyone here before. I keep saying I will start over tomorrow and tomorrow never comes. I dont understand why this is happening. I was doing so good too.

You're not a failure...you just need a break. Perhaps your body is just telling you to take a rest right now. Take a short brake, evaluate what your goals are and remember WHY you want those goals. Take it from there.

Now....was that a kick in the butt or words of encouragement? LOL

We've all been there...Been there, done that.

Here are 2 quotes posted in response to a plea for help that I made a little while ago...they really say it straight!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

Good LUCK!

Don't beat yourself up. It's hard work to keep up with an exercise routine and life responsibilities. Maybe 3 weeks ago you needed a rest and it is hard to pace yourself and get back into your groove.

Think about today, not yesterday or tomorrow: what can you do today to inch yourself in the direction that will make you look in the metaphorical mirror and feel better? Make a promise to yourself and keep it. (Today I will take the time to stretch or eat a large salad instead of a bag of Baked Lays for lunch.)

Sometimes I make myself stretch, or walk .25 mile on the treadmill -- anything to get the blood flowing and then I say: "Do I feel better now that I did that baby step? or worse?"
If the answer is "worse," I have some thinking to do about what the problem is and keep at it.

Now I run 25 miles a week and do weight training 2-4 times a week, but where I started is feeling like I could barely handle 3 walks a week and feeling mega horrible. I built up by the quarter mile. (baby steps, a la Bill Murray in What About Bob)

Any step forward is a step forward. There is nothing too small to count as positive. It all adds up!

i know how you feel. sometimes, i will be gung-ho for several weeks, and then i hit a brick wall. i find that if i pace myself out of the gate, i will do much better for much longer. think of a workout that you usually find fun and enjoyable and just do that, whether it be a fun , less intense workout or just getting outside and walking (if the weather is nice where you are). sometimes it helps me to watch fittv (again if you have it). when i see a cathe workout on tv, it really motivates me to go do one. the first workout is always the hardest for me, but once i do one, then i look forward to the next one. it is only wednesday, so you can finish the week off strong. everyone gets in these ruts, so don't be too hard on yourself.

I found myself where you are a little over a month ago. I was working out but my heart wasn't in it, the fun factor was gone, and I had to do a lot of self talk to do workouts I usually loved to do. I was pushing too hard all the time. I finally broke down and ordered new workouts (non-Cathe) that were completely different from my usual mode of training. I feel much better and am gradually adding my beloved Cathe's back in. Also, I am learning to listen to my body and yesterday instead of finishing Imax 3, due to time constraints, I stopped after interval 6 so I would have time to do a nice long stretching workout. I'm adding in a little more yoga/stretching/pilates when I have the time and it's making a world of difference (sometimes I can't do a killer workout I had planned or I need to shorten the workout to fit this in). I will probably do killer rotations again, but not all the time like I used to. I'm listening to my body more now and am being consistent without dreading my workouts. I'm stressed at work so working out should not stress me out further and it was. Find something fun to do that you enjoy without worrying about doing a rotation to tone this or that. Just do something you consider fun for a while and gradually add your old workouts back in. You won't feel this way forever! Sorry so long. I'm not saying what I did will work for you, but thought sharing my experience and what I did may help! Good luck!

As Barb said, start with small steps. If I am in a funk and feel unmotivated, I tell myself that I will just start with say 10 minutes of abs. Then when I'm doing it, I remember how good it feels and want to do more. Don't be too hard on yourself.

you are NOT a failure. you're probably just in dire need of rest as someone above mentioned. maybe trying very light cardio, yoga or pilates and see if that helps. even if you only do 5-10mins and just build from there. its okay to allow your self some time off. make an appointment with yourself to do at least 10 mins of something, anything you like, to get you moving and see if that helps you. we have all been there with exercise and diet, its not the end of all.

Don't be so hard on yourself. We've all been there. I'm trying to get back in the swing of things since our vacation almost a month ago. The first few days back I told myself I'm just going to do "something" and then that something turned into a nice hour to hour and a half work out. You've gotten some good advice. Maybe a new DVD is in order. That seems to do the trick for me.

How about getting outside for a walk/run? A change of scenery may help. Do you have a gym membership? I've recently started going to the gym for the elliptical and stairmaster because I'm getting bored with my treadmill at home.

You'll get back on track. Give it some time.:)

I agree with everyone else here. Don't beat yourself up. I have lots of workouts that I use for light days that are sorter and less intense for days that I dread a workout. Do something fun and don't worry as much about the calorie burn or following some schedule. Take a walk, play tennis with a friend. Sometimes I just need to get outside an not always workout in front of a tv.

Oh yeahm I've been there. Maybe you can do what others have suggested,, just light workouts. Or a bike ride or a walk? I'm sure that this won't last forever and that you'll get back to your normal routine.

Guess what?

I am here on the board instead of working out. . .

Yesterday I left work almost asleep, came home, visited with my teenie bopper DD then hit my workout. But . . . after 20 min had barely enough energy to stand up. Had a protein bar, waited 15 min and tried again. Made it 2 min. Was very disappointed.

Now today, left work, had to run a few errands for a last minute project, worked on it an hour after I got home and now don't want to work out. It is too close to dinner and, yes, DH just pulled into the driveway.

How about a challenge for us both?

I have a playoff hockey game to go to tomorrow, but will leave work early and do at least a cardio workout.

Are you up for it? I hope so. Will check in tomorrow afternoon to see . . .

No big, deep words of advice like everyone else had (good advice, too) just a big ole {{{{{HUG}}}}}} because I've been there and know how frustrating it can be.
