I dislike step workouts but need good cardio burn

I love the knowledge that comes with all the Cathe workouts but I have to say I can't do the step aerobics routines well. I don't like having to take the time to learn the dance moves. It's really frustrating as I want to get a great cardio workout in but stumble over the moves..argh! I am an advanced exerciser and I balance my weighted workouts well with cardio and stretch. If any of you have a great vhs or dvd (except my dvd player is downstairs and I prefer to be upstairs away from the family) that has mainly floor aerobics and simple step moves please let me know. I like to do the circuit training which allows me to do both in one sitting.

Thanks everyone!

Simple step choreography, high intensity:

Interval Max (the original; on the same DVD as Rhythmic Step and Maximum Intensity Cardio)

I-Max 2 (on the same DVD as Cardio+Weights; somewhat dancier than I-Max 1 but learnable and/or modifiable)

CTX Power Circuit (in DVD you have to buy the whole 2-DVD CTX taco, but IMHO that's totally worth the dough) (very simple step cardio including power blasts before barbell leg circuits) (one of my fave circuit workouts) (I believe now you can buy each CTX VIDEO separately)

Boot Camp (ultra-high-intensity cardio blasts, then lower, upper and core resistance cycles) (on the same DVD as Muscle Endurance)

Maximum Intensity Cardio (can be purchased in video as a stand-alone workout); the first 35 minutes are good floor hi/lo cardio

CTX 10-10-10 (kickbox, hi/lo and step)

CTX Kickbox

Cardio Kicks (kickbox-flavored floor cardio)

That oughtta get you started - there's much more in Cathe's arsenal for what you want, trust me.

Kickboxing is a high intensity workout. KPC is a great kickboxing workout (with no step!).

And A-Jock's list of high intensity workouts with easier choreography is right on. IMAX1 (Interval Max) and IMAX 2 especially are high intensity interval workouts (I think you would be frustrated with the choreography on IMAX3, though, so don't get that one...you'll notice A-Jock didn't mention it).

From that list, I'd definitely recommend Boot Camp, IMAX 1 and IMAX 2 for their interval effects and intensity. If you have FitTV, you can sometimes catch Bootcamp to get an idea of what it's like. I particularly like it on DVD, because there is an "all but core" premix and a "core only" premix, and by doing those in sequence (instead of the workout as-is), I fiind it's a bit more intense (less time between cardio/plyo bursts) and less "up-down" (on the floor for abs, up for cardio, down for abs, up for cardio, etc.).

IMAX1 has more simple choreography than IMAX2 (which might at times push your frustration, depending on how hard of a time you have learning the moves..but each move is repeated several times, so you can pick it up).

If you want to learn Cathe's choreo, I recommend starting with the "Classics I" DVD. The workouts there are broken down more than more recent workouts. And Cathe shows many moves before you do them. The workouts are also somewhat similar, and similar moves recur. There are also some moves that are found in many of Cathe's more recent workouts, that are introduced for the first time in these, and therefore broken down (as they aren't in subsequent workouts).

But even if you don't want to get into Cathe's step workouts, you have the choice of several non-step workouts, as well as some simple choreo step workouts.

You can watch 60-second previews of Cathe's workouts on this site. And www.collagevideo.com also has video previews of the workouts they sell, including some, but not all, of Cathe's---and the clips are different from those shown here.

Good luck!

I agree with A-Jock, definitely get Boot Camp/ME. The cardio in that is the same thing repeated for a minute and isn't step.
