I did it!!!!!!!!!!! 8K Shamrock Shuffle!!!!

Lori!

You look great in your picture Lori!!! You look very fit and you do not look fat at all! That's awesome. Running on sand is hard! Good luck with your future races! That's wonderful that you are running for a good cause.

I trained for the 8K using this schedule right here:
http://www.halhigdon.com/8K/8knovsch.htm

I was sick for 2 of the weeks so trained for 6 weeks. :)

My friend talked me into signing up for the Half Marathon in September and she's trying to get me to train for the full marathon in October. If Oprah can do it...well we can do it right? :) I joined a local running training program for that.

RE: Lori!

Wow, thanks for that program. It looks great. I am going to use it. Starting now! :) Does Hal live in Illinois? That's cool he did a training program for that race. :)

Awesome that you are in a training program. How fun! I would love to do something like that.

Thanks for the nice words about my race. I may try to do a 10k in the fall, that is if I keep up with my running. :)

RE: Lori!

You are welcome Lori! I don't know if he's from Chicago but if you go to his main page http://www.halhigdon.com/index.html and then click under "Training Programs" he has training schedules for 5Ks, 8Ks, 10Ks, 15Ks and 10 mile, Half Marathon, Marathon and more. Then you can choose between the Novice, Intermediate or Advanced schedules. It's great!!!

Here's his 10K training Novice schedule:

Shoes? Did you say shoes??? Please share (you know, just in case I take up running....or just want people to think I am! LOL!)

Angie

Hi Angie! Shoes!

Thank you Diana!!!

Hi Angie! Ahhhh...shoes! My favorite subject. She advised me to go to a specialty running store to get my shoes.

When you run long distances it's important to have the right shoe for your foot. I learned the hard way because I was getting terrible blisters during my training. The blisters were right at the arch of my foot because the arches were too high in the shoes I was wearing. There are certain running shoes made for high arches, medium arches and low arches/flat feet.

I have flat/low arched feet and I wasn't wearing the right shoe. I tried a pair that were right for my feet (Mizuno Wave Renegade), but they felt too heavy when I ran. So I went back to the store (Running Ambitions in Wheaton..I think you said you were from this area) and tried the Saucony Women's Grid Stabil MC 5 Motion Control Running Shoe (1702-1 style). Much better!!

RE: Hi Angie! Shoes!

Thanks, Dani! Those are really cool shoes. You are so right, shoes DEFINITELY make the difference!! I was actually inspired to check out Hal's training program....maybe I'll start running in the summer. I have to take my daughter to summer school pretty early and the high school has a track that I could use....hmmmmmmmmm..........maybe I'll see you at the next race in Chicago!!

RE: Hi Angie! Shoes!

Thanks Valerie!!!

Angie that would be too cool!!! You should try it!! The training was tough for me the first couple of weeks, but after that I felt great!!!! It's such a great feeling when you finish running. Your endorphins are so high!! That would be great if you could use the track early in the morning. That's the best time to run in the summer, before the sun gets too hot. Yay! Keep me posted!
