I Am the Platemate Queen!

Soosan

Cathlete
I mistakenly posted this at "Ask Cathe" so wanted to try again over here...

I tell you, if it weren't for Platemates, I'd never be able to increase my weights. They have really brought this hardgainer's strength to a whole new level. I've got 2 pairs: 5/8 lb ea and 1.25 lb ea. I even sometimes only increase by 5/8 lb, but at least that's something and moves me forward!

For those of you that are unfamiliar w/them, they are magnetized weights you stick onto dumbells in order to incrementally increase loads if the next size weight is too heavy. Here's what they look like: http://www.theplatemate.com/hex.htm. They have donut-shaped ones that work on barbells too. They're a bit pricey, but indestructible and worth every penny.

Sooooosan,

Can you attach them to a rubber coated plate? I have one of those barbells where the bar is just a hollow, rubber thing with no metal. Do you think it would work with it?

Sorry Soooooooooooooooooosan, I thought this thread said that you were a "playmate queen" I came in here looking for your centerfold! But we are just talking about plates! LOL:)
Lori:)

Susun,

Thank you for the tip, I have already ordered me some. Can hardly wait to get them! They are just what I was looking for.

I was wondering something along these lines myself! I recently got a whole new set of polyurethane-coated hex bells. I love the grips on them, as well as the coating (quieter, and safer for the floors!)
Think the platemates would hold through the coating??
Thanks!

OH HAIL PLATEMATE QUEEN!!!

Susan...I'd love to get some of these, but I'm just too cheap!!! So I settle for mustering up all the strength I can get on really "good" days in somewhat less than perfect form until I can do it on bad days with better form!!x( x( x( . It's been working for me, but I'd still love to have some of these. Maybe I'll have to start putting pennies in a jar. :7 :7 . Thanks for sharing this!!!

You're just so disciplined Soooooooooooooosan, pullups by the milimeter, platemates, etc. I admire you greatly!!!

So I just checked out the site...those things look really cool. I'd like to hang my grocery list up on the fridge with one of those things. What cool decor for the person who has everything - and you'll NEVER loose that list!!

Briee (i'm done now)

Briee, you never fail to put a smile on my face!:)

Could you ask for some for Valentine's Day or something?

What a great idea!! Have you ever thought about how weird our "holiday" requests are to the average public. Cold hard steel, magnets, bars, bands, someone MIGHT think we have a VERY serious problem.

Briee

You'll wonder how you ever lived without them. (If you can, get two pairs - 5/8 lb and 1.25 lb ea.)

You're right about how strange our present requests probably sound to some. You should have seen how excited I was when my MIL (aka "The Dragon Lady") gave me the medicine ball I requested for Christmas.

Think of the JOY you brought her as you jumped up and down hugging your ball....just knowing she bought you the PERFECT gift.

(of course now she knows for a fact that you've completely lost it).
