I AM SO ANGRY!

So I've been helping my neighbor get motivated to workout and invited her to workout with me. She came over and I went through proper form and fundamentals of weight training with dumbbells.

Fine.

Then I lent her one of my Cathe DVDs (Supersets and Push Pull) so she could "meet" Cathe and get a full body workout done at home.

Fine.

I just went over to get my DVD back from her (she's going out of town tomorrow). I asked if for it and (GET THIS) she said she's going to COPY IT because she "didn't have time to order it." WHAT?!!!!! I said, "That's stealing." She told me she is going to order it -- then she said someone else has it and is copying it for her.

If she had even thought to ask me first I would have said, "NO!" I hate when people copy DVDs. Never will I lend her one of my DVDs. Ugh! I'm very angry about this.

Needed to vent.

No! She doesn't even have it at her house! She actually gave it to someone else to copy.

I am speechless (except for my rant, of course).

Jes -- are you going on the Road Trip?

That is so incredibly RUDE (not to mention illegal!!!). Never let HER borrow anything from you again. The nerve of some people... *grumbles* That would really irritate me too. You have every right to be angry. I hope she gives you back your DVD soon.

Trust me I won't make that mistake twice. This is a person I would never, ever have suspected of doing this. Unbelievable.

Well that would certainly irritate me. It would not cost her to much to buy it. I would guess she liked it if she wanted a copy. I would think that is an upside. I would be the most worried if I am going to get my dvd back. I am kind of posessive of my DVDs. I have offered these to others as well and was sorry. I did have someone I did daycare for many years ago :) let me borrow the firm 2 one of the original classics. I had to go shopping. I bought that and hunted downnumber three and then preordered # 4 and the I was really hooked on them for awhile.

Hey marla,

My experience is not exactly like your, but it does involve giving out workout tapes. My sister-in-law is not into exercising very much, but was complaining she needed to lose weight. She ask me if I had any workouts tapes for her to try, and I was willing to help. Definitely did I not give her any of my cathe workouts, but some older ones from other fitness instructors. Doing this because I knew I would never see them again, and sure enough I have not seen one to this day. And she also has not done any of them.

It would be a cold day in you know where before she would get one of my cathe tapes. Now I will fight you over that.

Marla,

That is why I hate loaning things out. I have loaned DVD's out before and not gotten them back.x( I have also loaned some out and they have been kept for months before they are returned. Some people are just plain rude. I refuse to loan out my workout DVD's to anyone.;-)

Marla, of course i am going darlin! i wouldn't miss it for all the shopping sprees in the world!

Cool, Jes! I can't wait to meet you (and Marla, too) in person!

About my Cathe DVD: It was hanging in a bag (also in a ziploc) with a note on my front door this morning. She thanked me for lending it to her and told me she orderd her own and it will arrive next week.

Sigh.

I hope so.

Thanks everyone. I was really, really irritated last night.

No she didn't, she copied it. So what. You loaned it out to her. Don't loan out dvds then. They make these burners for a reason and I use mine regularly. We copy stuff all the time. No big! If it's so illegal then companies should put some sort of copy guard on them. My SIL and I do this once in awhile. I don't see it as a problem unless you are mass producing and taking money for them. The burner is a great invention.

Fab40,

Are you suggesting that because I lent her my DVD that I'm responsible for her copying it? I totally disagree. And it is a big deal.

You're right, I did loan it to her ... so she could TRY it, not so she could COPY it. It was inconsiderate and wrong of her to use my DVD to bootleg her own copy -- especially without asking me (I would have said no).

You're also right that I will never loan her my DVDs again. If everybody copied DVDs, people like Cathe would not have the financial resources to produce fabulous projects.

Whether you copy 1 or 500, it's illegal. If I only steal one loaf of bread it's still theft.

I will respectfully disagree with you on this.

I am pretty sure Cathe has a copy right on her dvd's. That should make it ILLEGAL to "burn" one. If we all burned the dvd's we wanted, Cathe would be out of business! That would be totally unfair to everyone involved.

Cathe makes part of her living from her exercise dvd's. Burning one is the same thing as stealing one!

Aside from the point that copying DVDs is illegal, it's also irritating. If I paid $50 for a DVD, why the heck should someone borrow if from me a get a copy for free? x( That's just my immature and slightly selfish side showing! :)

Slightly off topic but I loaned My KM DVD to an attorney at my office about a month ago and I still haven't gotten it back. I'm a little shy about bringing it up but I really want my DVD back. This is the LAST time I loan my Cathes to anyone! Does anyone know a polite way to: 1) ask for it back, and 2) decline when someone asks to borrow one?

This is definitely illegal. Note the FBI warning at the beginning of each DVD. It is a crime and a federal one at that (felony).

Turn her into the FBI... that'll show her... LOL....

Seriously, this is someone's business. I'm sure there are many many hours that go into producing Cathe's series. You know she has a staff, producers, etc. that have to be paid. Not to mention her talent that she markets in these DVDs. This is so wrong and anyone who thinks it is not is dead wrong. This is stealing, pure and simple. You might as well go to a retail store and slip one under your coat. Same thing.

Dude. That is NOT cool. I think that is really horrible of her to just take it upon herself to copy your DVD. I don't think it's right to do that at all. I'm glad you got it back.

I agree with you, Marla. You are NOT responsible for her copying your DVD. It was she, not you, who made the decision to have it burned. It was she, not you, who came up with the idea to copy it and who took it to somebody to be copied. I'm glad you got your DVD back. I always refer people I know to the web site. I'm too possessive with my Cathe workouts, I've never volunteered to lend them to anybody. I paid for my copy; they should, too.

Lunacat, this is where my assertiveness kicks in. I will tell them they MUST RETURN the goods to me. Trust me. It is much easier than it sounds. If you really harp on it before they even get your goods, that helps too. So go back & take your DVD. That was way too pricey for you to write off. Not to mention I did some of the blasts last night in the HardCore Extreme. It is too invaluable! Good grief! All those Plie Jacks!!!! And those lunges/scissors/whateverthey're called.

Once again, they MUST return your DVDs! There's no excuse. THEY MUST RETURN YOUR KICKMAX! I've got your back!

Marla

Marla-

I need you to stand behind me and snap on your gloves while I say: "Hey lady, you're an attorney, I'm a secretary. You can afford to buy a copy, I can't afford to replace mine. Now return my DVD at once or I shall have Marla here kick your gluteus maximus."

Think it would work?

Lunacat

No baby! You need to dig in & reach for that assertiveness I talk about. I, after all, may just be an overpaid butt-wiper & bib-changer. Trust me! You don't need to do it all the time, but the times you do, beleive me they will respect you for it!

But if worse comes to worse, yes! I would gladly drop squat, round house kick your attorney into never-never land. That is one of my favorite moves.
