I am sick to my stomach

I just watched the news here in Michigan and can you believe the police are searching for a man and woman who lured a cat into their apartment and threw a pot of boiling water on him. He is doing well still has some burns and blisters my 7 year old daughter is crying she is so upset. Oh My God what is happening to this country. Did anyone catch the Oprah Show last week that showed Lisa Lings story on Puppy Mills I was crying and all these commercials now that are showing abused animals. What is wrong with people I just want to know. I don't know about any of you but the Devil is on the Prowl.

Im sick just reading your story. Ive seen and heard all sorts of things myself. When I was a kid I wanted to be an animal rights activist.
People go after animals cuz it's "legal". It's hard to get away with hurting children or people and no one takes it as seriously.. and it's harder to catch. Easy targets.
Ive actually downright gotten violent when I was younger on anyone that mistreated animals (or reptiles.. a harmless, local snake when I was about 13).. Im one of those people that value animal life almost more than humans you know? Cruelty is cruelty. We punish people for hurting or killing drug dealers and prostituted without really considering the levels of THEIR life, I don't see why punishments shouldn't be the same for those that abuse animals (just because some arrogant white man says that thier lives aren't as important.
Me thinks not.

ugh, they just had on our news that they rescued a dog whose owner paid $50 to some guy to clip the pitbull's ears off with bolt cutters. it was apparently something related to dog fighting but they are hoping the little guy will be well enough to go to a good home.

its ridiculous b/c its either animal abuse or child abuse. i swear license to have kids or own animals. maybe that will weed out some of these issues!

I comfort myself with the idea that there's a special place in hell for people who abuse children and animals and elderly people.

I've always hated a bully.

I can relate to how you're feeling. There just seems to be so much cruelty!! Today on the news some teenage girls ganged up another one, beating her up badly, so they could put a video of it on you tube. And when I hear about people abusing defenseless animals, it just makes me want to scream.

I read 2 news stories in my area in a span of a week about people shooting other people's dogs -- for no apparent reason. One dog was shot with an arrow and had to be put down -- another dog had its leg shot off!

Both owners have rewards posted, but there was no rhyme or reason to this! It's terrible!!!

That is sickening!
Yes, I did see the Oprah Show. Thank God she finally did something on animal rights. I have been emailing for years to get to do a show on animal rights! The scariest part of the Oprah Show for me was that the Amish man who had a puppy mill couldn't believe the man from the Humane Society would allow a dog to walk in his home. It is so sad that the people doing the harm at the puppy mills think that is "normal." EDUCATION is everything!
I have been a vegetarian for 17 years for that reason - animals feel pain, have feelings, and understand far more than we know. They deserve humane treatment no matter what.

Gosh I'm so sick of hearing horrid stories :( esp ones that involve children but why someone would abuse an animal escapes me either. I've sure heard alot lately. sigh!!!!!!!!

Perhaps when they catch these people they should throw boiling water on THEM.

And no, I'm not kidding!

working in animal rescue for the past 10 years, i will not even begin to go into all the horrors i have seen over the years. i will only leave you with this:

There is an Indian legend which says:
"when a human dies, there is a bridge they must cross
to enter into heaven. At the head of this bridge awaits every
animal the human encountered during their lifetime...
The animals, based upon what they know of this person, decide
which humans may cross the bridge...and which are turned away"....

i know there is a special place in hell for animal abusers.

I absolutely agree. Isn't that terrible but just look at the facts its becoming more and more. And you know its bad for the people that truly have accidents. Pets or children.

Yep that was on just before this kitty incident. Sickening and where were the girls parents that did this no comments just the poor gal that went to the hospital for a concussion her mom was crying. I would be embarressed If i had girls that did that I think the justice would come from me worse than what a judge would pass down Oh I would fix my kid you betcha! But that goes to show you what kind of parenting was in those homes or what not.

I would loved to have had some bully try that on me with my 1st degree black belt what a suprise someone would have got. We teach our girls to defend themselves and never to start anything and to never watch someone getting hurt get someone or stand up for that person just tell the principal to call your dad!

Oh my goodness this is exactly what I told my granny last night. EYE for an Eye baby! But like previous poster said. I like to think they will get what's coming to them one life or another.

My dad said he will never forget this kid in his neighborhood had got ahold of a bird and poked his eyes out my dad said years later he was somewhere and his child was born blind (Goosebumps huh)

I don't mean to be a downer or controversial, but I don't view cruelty to cats and dogs as any worse than the cruel treatment of animals in factory farms that are used to feed this county. The quality of life for most animals in factory farms is the most extreme form of animal abuse in my opinion. Have you ever seen any video or photos? I think all living creatures have the right to happiness or a comfortable life. This includes animals that are not domesticated as family pets.

I like it!

A former roommate of mine, who was Native American, said that in the past (far past), a tribe that found a child to be abusing animals would put that child to death, because he would be seen as evil.

Unfortunately, if the cat scalders are caught, their real punishment will be hardly enough.

I hate hearing/reading stories of animal abuse, because they often make me think of even more attrocious cases I've heard (like the two medical students who decided to try some experimental surgery on someone's pet cat...may they rot in hell!)

I couldn't agree more with all of you. Any kind of animal abuse makes me sick too. In these kinds of situations, I am ALL for an eye for an eye.

Monica, I totally agree with you that farm animals endure horrible conditions and lead miserable lives. I saw the video about a month ago that an undercover Humane Society worker filmed on the way cows are treated at the Hallmark Meat Packing company. The poor things were so sick they couldn't move. It was sickening. That haunted me for days.
