I am going out of my mind!!

This is the first break I have ever taken from exercising in a very long time!! My left knee won't let me exercise. It's clicking, going upstairs is pretty painful, getting in to the car is a bit challenging. I can walk just fine, but the thought of doing squats makes me want to cringe inside. It's only been 4 days but feels like an eternity. Needless to say my knee has been feeling a bit better today- I really don't want to see another advil after this for a very long time. I just bought new nike's in July, I work out on carpet(think its cement underneath) Any suggestion or does anyone else feel my pain? -Lisa

Hmmm, . . your body is telling you something. "Don't do that." I know it stinks to be out of the routine, (I was sick for 3 days and struggled with it too) but I would not do to much to soon. Maybe take a walk with a weighted vest. Just moving is better than nothing. Hope you feel better. Hang in there.

Maybe a trail gym membership is in order. ;) Ellipticals & recumbent bikes for the legs, & rowing machines when you don't want to work lower body at all.

Lisa! Was wondering where you've been -- poor thing! I have no advice for you.... just hugs sent across the ether.... feel better, and don't go crazy!

That's exactly what I'm doing! Ellipitcal, recumbent bike, and swimming while dealing w/ some sort of pulled muscle in my left leg. Thank God for Cardio Coach!! :D

I had a similar issue and went to the orthopaedist to rule out anything serious and lucky for me it wasn't. I am going to PT now and my knee is happier for it.

Lisa,
I don't know if this will help or not, but years ago I switched to Nike running shoes (had worn Saucony for years). I developed knee troubles a while after I made the change and they went away when I switched back to my old brand. I never wore Nike again because I don't want to spend all of that money and find out that the shoes don't work for me.

Also, working out on carpet (over concrete, too!) can be hard on your knees. The concrete has zero "give" and the carpet can make pivoting a knee-wrenching experience (literally). I can't offer any advice on the flooring (unless you're willing to put down a new floor, which I did), but those two factors could be the cause.

Also look at the types of exercise you're doing -- too much high impact? I got an elliptical and, sadly, cut way back on my running. You may have to make some exercise modifications in order for your knees to hold up!

Hope this helped. Good luck with your knee(s)!

Thanks everyone for the good advice? I did cardio coach once and loved it, maybe I should try that tommorrow. Can anyone tell me the difference b/w cardio coach and itread? Is it just preference? Maybe I should start a new thread on this. Thanks again!!! -Lisa
