I am Getting So Tired Day After Workouts- is this norma...

Cathlete
Going to make this short, I have been working out, learning new step tapes, aquiring lots of Cathe since Jan 1.

I have lost 13# since around Christmas, so it's coming off about average I'd say. (Hate to post my weight, but I think it is essential to my questions, right now 5'5 and 158).

Some days when I do Cathe the next day I am so tired, I can't stand it. Last night I did S & H Chest, then the warmup & 1st step segment of Step Max. Nothing too tough, but the step tapes get my HR very high. I get plenty of sleep, went to bed at 9, and up a little before 6 so 8 hrs.

I have been trying to diligently keep at 1600 cal daily, which seems to be working along with the workouts to keep me losing at a steady enough pace. I drink Protein, eat NO junk, not too many carbs, eating my flaxseeds too. I'd say on avg my carbs are 45-50 and the protein 30 and fat 25%.. generalization, but that's my guess.

I take multivitamin daily (one a day womens right now), I drink water. What could be causing this. I have been keeping my workouts to 5 days each week, making my off days evenings b/c I work days (not a strenuous job either).

I don't believe I have a thyroid problem b/c I am losing weight ok. There for a while I was wondering, but I was probably overeating and not even realizing it. Not exercising either.

I'm sorry this is so long, tried to cut it short!
Any ideas?? i'm baffled b/c I should have more energy, not less. I am not working out again tonight b/c I'm just tired.

thanks guys :)

It is not Cathe, it is S&H.

Try a search on it (s&h, A.K.A. sLEEPY AND hUNGRY) in this forum. Up your calories (in protein) during an S&H rotation.

I was going to say the same thing Connie did! You definitely need to increase your protein on the days you are doing S&H.

You may also need to increase your caloric intake, period. I've just read a great "article" on www.physiquetransformation.com that talks about our energy levels deminishing because of a lack of calories. It makes sense that if you aren't getting enough to eat, you will have less energy.

My little disclaimer about the site I just mentioned....it is a Body For Life type program & they do charge to use their "program." They do not charge to read the "article" that they call a "book." I found it interesting & am considering trying their program.

Thanks ladies!

I am going to try & up cals & protein, but I really have trouble getting protein, unless I drink it! Is that ok? I had 3 protein drinks today, and still am only at 35% (I think that is right), i'll have to look at grams again. Maybe % isn't what I need to look at. Edit: I guess I was at 135gms, so that isn't quite 1gm/#, but better!

I think I could be coming down with something, I couldn't get into anything tonight either, and I had a wierd headache, very wierd one!

I'll do some looking around this weekend.
Thanks again.

My protein is Optimum Whey, and now from something i was reading on the Firm YaYa site, that might be a very low quality protein.

I dont' usually get that much, but am going to do so in the future. I have to look at the quality a little more though, I dont want to be wasting my money on something that is not going to benefit me.

The problem is, I dont know alot about protein drinks. For now I have a 5# canister of the Optimum so I will finish it off and then see what else is available.
