I really want to lean out the proper way. I have been engaging in unhealthy activity for so long that now that i am recovering I feel like I need to get on a program that will produce results. I am looking to reduce body fat, right now I am about 26% (going by the Omron)I would like to look lean and show some muscle definition but not as much as Cathe has as I will not be able to maintain it considering I don't have that much time for the gym. Thank you for your wonderful advice and I hope I am not being to pesty with all of my questions :)

Well here are a few questions, what has worked for you in the past? What hasn't worked for you in the past?

To get rid of fat, you need cardio at least 3 times a week, strength training, and it's always a good idea for some type of stretch thrown in there as well, as it will usually help with balance as well as keeping muscles long and healthy and less injury prone. As well as a good diet.

There are all types of workouts, but there are also all types of people, no two people will have the same results with the same workout. So you need to find what works for you. The only true way is to experiment, try one type for about 3 months, and see what type of results, as by three months you should be getting results, but won't kill your goal if it's not what you wanted. You can do one of the standard catogories of fitness routines or you can make up your own. The ones who have their own usually have much faster and greater results, as your listening and watching your body and gearing it toward what you want. Where as if you do a standard catogory you follow certain steps toward your goal but don't modify, just go with the program, you may get your goal in this area, but this other area, still needs work. Or you may achieve it, it is competely dependant on you, and your body.

Just kind of think of it this way when you test out a new type of fitness, you are trying it before you buy it, as anything you do, if you don't like you can go back to the way it was.

But the main thing is to get exercising, as once you do this, your body will lead you in the right direction if you listen and watch it closely. It will tell you if free style is right, as once you start you'll see if you build muscle or not after a few weeks. Or it will tell you if heavy weights are for you or not, as to how fast you gain muscle. If you gain it really fast, and don't slow down much, you can be pretty sure, you going to have a lot of muscle is a short period of time. So simply think of it this way, your learning who you are as an exerciser, and the only way to really know is to experiment, just like learning who you were, as a child, a teen, and now an adult.

Hope that helps,

Kit
