Hypothyroid

I'm hypothyroid and it seems that every year or so I need my dosage readjusted. Lately I've been working on a strength workout with less cardio and trying to up my protein intake. I noticed that I seem to be very tired after the workouts, more toward the end of the day. However I also noticed my bodyfat percentage going up, now I did increase calories, only do cardio three times a week but the calorie increase was pretty clean so it was disappointing to watch the bodyfat go up too. I expected a little increase but not a lot. Anyway, my thyroid is low again, so they need to increase my medication. Does anyone else with this disease have to yo-yo around with what really works for your body? I can't always go by whats in the books because it just won't work for me, even if my medication dosage seems to be correct and my thyroid is in the normal range. I need to be cautious and still consider it on the low range. Is that the same for anyone else? Sorry to be so long winded.

My mom, sister, and grandma have hypothyroid (I am waiting my turn...) and aside from medication, do cardio at least four times a week and strength only 2 or 3, and that seems to really help their energy levels. I have noticed, especially with my sister, that she gets more tired and yoyo's her weight than my mom or gm because she eats sweets and mom and gm doesn't.

I am not really sure how the thyroid works, though I should, so I can't give you any more info than what works for them.

Thanks I do have some information on hypothyroidism. I like your sister do have to watch my sweets intake as well as just white flour, I think it has more of a negative impact on me. I manage alright, I just wish there were more immediate ways to tell if it's your thyroid or if your just tired. A person could go on a long time thinking there just stressed and therefore a little tired instead of having the thyroid checked. Thank you though.

I'm hypothyroid as well. For me, it is essential to do a minimum of 5 cardio sessions per week. I tried doing more lifting and less cardio, but was tired all the time also. Now I try to do 2 or 3 wt training and 5 or 6 cardio sessions per week. That's what seems to work best for me. I know a lot of people on this forum have mentioned that as they got older, they benefited from more wt training and less cardio, it just doesn't work for me.

Good luck. It is a constant battle.

Thanks I appreciate that. Yeah, I think I'm just going to have to up my cardio. It is tough but things could be worse. I'm always thankful for what I've got.
