Hypnobabies...

I read about hypnobabies from a previous post, and decided to order it and give it a try (it should be here next week). I was wondering if anyone else has tried it yet. I remember someone saying they were ordering it too. I was very unhappy with my last two deliveries, although, the babies and I were both fine. I am really hoping this program will help me to deal with the pain/fear better. I also ordered the VBAC success CD, which I am hoping will help me to stop worrying about uterine rupture and help me to avoid another c-section. (my second was an "emergency" c-section)

Any thoughts? :)

Hi Marsha,

I just got my books and CDs last week. I haven't had time to go through the program yet b/c we're knee deep in mortgage negotiations on a new house. I did listen to the one CD that you can use while driving and walking, it's positive affirmations. I've found that these things really help me a lot and keep me focused on a positive outcome. I have another program for fertility by Laurie Morse that was somewhat similar to this but not about hypnosis. I noticed that my first reaction is that I liked Laurie's voice and approach a bit better than the Hypnobabies woman but her CDs helped me to get pregnant, so I'm probably pretty biased.:)

Coincidentally, I was happy to find out that my midwives group both teaches and supports hypnobabies so that's half the battle right there! But even if this isn't the case with you and you're working with a doctor on the day of delivery, the package comes with signs for you to put up around you during the birth. They alert people to the fact that you're a hypnobabies mom and how to treat you. It looks like a great package and I definitely think that having some tools and techniques to use to guide us through our births will be a huge help.

My biggest thing (like you) is that I want to avoid a c-section...hence my question about anyone with ideas on how to turn a breech baby...a major cause for unplanned C-s. I think the CDs have affirmations and visualizations about this...just haven't gotten that far yet.

When you get yours and begin working with it feel free to check back in with me, I'm hoping things will be resolved with the house so I can get into the CDs and workbook and begin learning the self hypnosis/ pain management aspect of it. Maybe we can help each other with anything that's confusing or unclear.

FWIW I think it's awesome that you're taking things into your own hands and doing what you can to make yourself feel empowered through this birth -- kudos to you!!! :)

Best of luck,
Steph

Steph,

I hope everything is going well with your negotiations! I got the information yesterday and read through the first section. I also listened to the positive affirmations CD before going to bed last night. Today I am going to listen to the first part of CD #1 (as per the schedule). It says to try and start by 26 wks., which I will be at on Sunday, so I am trying to start right away.

So far it seems good. They only downside so far is that it seems to be focused on women who are having their first child. I hope they cover ridding yourself of all the negative birth experiences that have already occured. I also purchased the VBAC success CD, which I am not sure how to incorporate into the program yet.

What does your Dh think about the program? Mine is a little skeptical, but I think I've conviced him to give it a try. It can't hurt, right? :)

Let me know how your doing!

Hey Marsha, still negotiating but things are looking up. Thanks for asking! :)

I started the first assignment the other night and I thought it was pretty good, haven't gotten to releasing the fear yet -- too busy still. I actually wept with the "safe place" cd...I chose my safe place as my mom's bedroom before she died (2 years ago), it was tranquil and full of love. WOW the tears were flowing with that image!! I'd love to have her in my safe bubble while I give birth, she was so awesome and supportive and she predicted that I was going to have a daughter before she passed. And lo and behold this one is supposed to be a girl! :) As you can see, I've become a sentimental sap about this...

I think the Releasing the Fear CD will cover other bad birth experiences. The hypnobabies site seems to have a bunch of people who turned their bad birthing experiences around so hang in there and I'm sure the CDs will cover it. Maybe there will be instructions on your VBAC success CD too.

To answer your other question, my DH is what I'd call detached and supportive but skeptical about Hypnobabies. He's willing to help me and he's glad that I've found a tool to help myself through the birthing process. Our beliefs are quite different though so I didn't expect too much -- I sort of did this just for me. Sometimes I feel like I'm Dharma to his Greg! :)

...but he comes around eventually. We're hoping for a water birth and just found out that he may have to get into the tub with me. This has soured him a bit on the idea but I trust that he'll do it when he sees how important it is to me and how much it could improve the birthing experience for us and our baby.

So...we shall see.

Keep me posted as to your situation and what you think about the assignments.

Steph
