HURRICANES, TSUNAMI'S AND SNOWSTORMS...WHAT NEXT

The posts from you Northern gals reminds me of what we went through in Florida a few months ago.

I don't know which is worse. Hurricane after hurricane or inches and inches of snow.

I guess it's where you are at the time :)

I know what you mean. I am also from the south. We were directly hit by Hurricane Ivan. It seems like we will never be back to normal. This weather is crazy!

Carla,

You must live near the west coast of Florida. I live in Central Florida and we got hit with all but Ivan. I understand Naples and that area still looks bad. We're pretty much recovered now...just with fewer oak trees and a lot of new roofs, LOL!

We are enjoying the fire wood in our fireplace during this cold weather, though. Gotta take the good with the bad, right?

I'd say that hurricane after hurricane is definitely worse. I visited Punta Gorda during the holidays and I could not believe how much destruction was still there after 3 months! I was also horrified hearing stories about people my grandparents' age having to hunker down in the hallways under mattresses. You have my sympathies.

I am also amazed at how caring the Floridians seem to be! Quite a few people, like you, have shown concern for us in the snowy cold weather which seems to pale in comparison to the devastation caused by the hurricanes.

Of course, I don't live on the East Coast and they got hit a lot harder than we did with the snow.

Shelley :)

I am certain that the destruction from a hurricane or a tsunami far surpasses that of excessive snow.

I had to shovel a foot of snow this weekend, but I still have my home (in tact), clean drinking water, plenty of food, and the snow will melt within a few weeks. This is more than most of the tsunami victims have...

I guess it's all about extremes and what you're used to.

Regarding the Tsunami, I never really thought about the devastation something like that could cause. It will be years before those people get their lives back together.

Who pissed off Mother Nature anyway? x(

I agree that snow isn't so bad. Of course I'm lucky b/c I only live a block from work. But still......as long as you're prepared for it it's lots of fun. Yesterday my entire block was out shoveling, then a bunch of us went to brunch at a diner around the corner. I had people coming in & out of my house all day b/c they had cabin fever, & all my best friends live less than a mile from me, so we made a little party out of it (the football game didn't hurt either :) ).

If it didn't make life so miserable for the BF I wouldn't mind if it snowed every week. :p

No kidding Candi. Just think, tsunamis, hurricanes, mudslide, & avalanches. Is this it?

All joking aside. NO matter how many news reports, I think most of us could never seriously grasp the magnitude of the tsuanmi's destruction. God bless those people. I just hope they get the relief they need & those donations don't end up in the wrong hand.

Gee, I forgot all about the avalanches and mudslides!!!

Maximus,
I wanted to have a Hurricane party at our house during Hurricane Jeanne but no one wanted to leave their house on the chance they couldn't make it back because of debris on the road. My thoughts were it would be safer and more fun to be together. Of course, I suggested our house cause I didn't want to leave either. It wound up that we had some damage and no power after that one...life's little ironies.

I am reading this having just come in from shoveling over 2 feet of snow!! My arms are literally shaking as I type this. My back feels very stiff and my toes are freezing. As much as I HATE the snow (especially shoveling it) I think the other Natural Disasters are worse.

As I was shoveling today I was singing the song Hot, Hot, Hot to myself. I am going to Turks and Caicos on Saturday and it better be hot, hot, hot!

What's Turks and Caicos? What ever it is, it sounds like FUN! FUN! FUN! Wish I could join you for that, but you can keep your snow. That's why I stick around in Texas!

Turks and Caicos are islands 575 miles south of Miami. I have never been there but it sure sounds dreamy.

I keep telling my husband that I was born in the wrong part of the country (Northeast)that I am a southern girl at heart.

LOL Candi! It seems the best parties are the ones you don't plan. And I can't figure out why my house always ends up being the gathering point. Might be b/c I live right in the downtown, or it might be b/c I have no kids so when people want a little break they know where they can find it. ;-)

I live on the Gulf Coast. Pensacola area. I know what you mean about the new roofs! We have one, my mom has one, and my grandma. Of course, so do most of our friends also. The roofers are making so much money right now it is unreal.

Ahh... Turks and Caicos...

I was there (Grand Turk) last year and it sure was nice! We had perfect weather. Bring your SPF and enjoy. :)
