hungry from working out

When I work out an hour a day vs every other day I am hungrier and eat more. It seems to be a crazy cycle. Should I work out less or just feed the hunger? My workouts are my stress reliever and I love them. I need to loose about 15 lbs but can't seem to quit eating. Also, does any one notice that they are just starving one week out of the month. What do you do about that? I can loose 5 lbs in three weeks but then one week I eat everything in sight and gain it back. Frustrating!

I don't think you need to cut back working out. You just need to eat enough to support the hunger. However, what you eat and how often you eat is a big component in the equation. The best idea is to eat 5-6 smaller meals a day so you keep fueling your body and you continue to feel satisfied. This is an ideal situation for muscle repair & growth. Make sure also to get a good ratio of protein to carbs to fat. Try to fat some sort of protein and wholesome carb w/ most meals....ie cottage cheese/berries, lean chicken/fish & sweet potato, handful almonds/walnuts, whole grain bread w/ natural peanut butter, etc. If you eat the right combo of foods you shouldn't feel starving. Of course, do leave room for the weekly treats ;)

I agree with Debbie. You might want to look at what you're eating. I've had to add a lot more protein to the mix in order to keep from wanting to eat everything in sight. You can track all of that via www.fitday.com. It's a pain to start but once you get everything entered it's easy. I swear by it.

That you gain your 5 lbs. back right away is a sign that your body needs food. Don't ignore the hunger. If you do, your body will hold on to its fat stores to keep your body functioning as it thinks it's going through a famine. Eat lean protein with complex carbs and good fat sources. I eat 300-400 calories of such foods every 3 hours. This keeps me from getting so hungry and eating anything in sight. It also keeps cravings away. And on those days when you find yourself eating "bad" food, enjoy it. You heard me.:) Enjoy it, don't stress over it. I find that stress makes me want to binge, so I try to not stress over the small things, like eating a treat. Then start over the next meal.
