Howdy strangers!

Long time, no post! I can't even remember the last time I posted. I got a bit out of shape because of work. I was doing a lot of travelling between January and April, and entertaining people from out of town. But I started back up with the routine in April and have added some new features. Turbo Jam - lots of fun, but really stupid looking. I'm always DRIPPING when I'm done with it.

There's been a really nifty addition to cross training - Tae Kwon Do classes. I've wanted to do this since I was a teenager, and have finally gotten around to doing it because; #1) my 6 year old daughter has been doing it for a year, but is the only girl in her class and so shy that she needs a little extra encouragement to progress to the next level; #2)I feel confident and fit enough to finally have the guts to quit making excuses and do it, and #3) I finally have a salary that allows both my husband and me to do it with our daughter.

I've only had 4 TKD classes so far, so I'm just a white belt. The belt repersents purity, a new beginning and no prior TKD experience.

All levels of experience take the same adult classes together, so I was one of only three white belts on our class yesterday morning (one was my husband, and the other was some other guy). The whole first 30 minutes of class was pretty much a high-impact cardio class, and included a lot of kicking, running and jumping. The "guy" dropped out halfway through and watched from the observers area. My husband also mysteriously disappeared at one point. Then afterwards, while we were working on other, more sedate stuff, he had to go to the bathroom because he thought he was going to vomit. Guess who was barely winded????? AND guess who was a GIRL who did all 30 pushups straight-legged style? That's right....lil ol' 5'0", 106 lb. me! The instructor is getting a little "frustrated" because he hasn't been able to get me to complain that I'm tired or sore yet. Sometimes I say I'm a bit tired, just to make him feel good, but he knows I'm lying.

Anyway, I share this long story with you as homage to Cathe's workouts (and now Turbo Jam). The instructors are impressed with how "naturally" the kicks and punches are coming to me (thanks KPC) and I only feel like a "loser" when I miss the target with a kick. Who aims in Kick, Punch, Crunch????

If you have the ability to enroll in a martial arts class, I HIGHLY recommend it. Especially if the Master instructor is as incredibly cute as our Master Yu! I can barely understand what he says, but he has beautiful posture and what a smile!

It's SO much fun!!!

Hi Donna. I loved Tae kwon Do I am a first degree black belt and I want to start all over with my daughters. It has been since I graduated almost 20 years (2009) OMG did I just type that? Good for you. I just can not swing the finances for 3 of us right now.

Have fun!

Beth - I hit my 20 year last summer! The reunion was a blast! I wouldn't have gone without Cathe, though.

I know what you mean about the finances. It's a big chunk of change, but I'm convinced it's all money well spent for all the positives you get out if it. Especially for my extremely shy daughter, who will no doubt grow up to be very cute and will need the self defense skills and strong self esteem when she starts dating.

I just wish she'd start yelling, "yes ma'am!" to me when I tell her to clean up after herself, like she does when the instructors tell her to do something.

Hi Donna! Great to "see" you! Sounds like the "new" job is working out well. I haven't been working out much this year either, but that doesn't stop me from posting away on these forums. :D

I hope you can continue to stop in from time to time and let us know how you're doing. All the check-ins are now on a separate forum, btw, if you're looking for them.
