How to take linseed?

Hello,

I was wondering if any of you could advise me on how to take linseed and what are the benefits? Were the effects immediate? I have never taken this before and I bought a packet of linseed seeds recently. A friend says to soak it in water overnight and drink the liquid and seeds in the morning with lots of water. Can I drain the water and drink that on it's own and mash the seeds to add to food?

Thanks

Yen

Do you mean flaxseed? (Linseed oil come from the flax plant, so I assume so).

Buy whole flax seeds, and grind them to put on cereal, on salads, in baked goods, in thick drinks (like protein drinks).

Benefits include a good source of omega 3 fatty acids, which have numerous benefits(most Americans eat too much omega 6 fatty acids in comparison to omega 3's), and a source of good fiber.

I also stir them into yogurt, in addition to all of Kathryn's suggestions. Oh, and fruit salad. But I do not put them in baked goods as I feel that heating the oil might degrade it. That's just me. Lots of folks bake with them, but I prefer not to take any chances with the oils.

I also grind them fresh in a coffee grinder I use just for this purpose, and store the unground ones in the freezer to keep them super-fresh.
