How to increase cardio time...

Hi Cathe and all the others,

I have been exercising with the CTX Series for about 2 months now and the cardio portion still feels difficult (I have been doing them 3 times a week + one day of weight training). Since I am trying to lose weight, I would like to try and increase my cardio to 45 min per session, but it seems that even 30 minutes is way too hard for me. I am an intermediate level and would like to become an advanced exerciser.
How do I get to that 45 min ?

Thanks, Ann.

Hi Ann! If thirty minutes is still very difficult for you than right now make it your goal to just finish 30 minutes as opposed to going for 45 minutes. There are a few ways you can go about improving your stamina. One way is that each time you do your workout, when it gets to the point where you find yourself getting very fatigued, simply do just one more minute(and be sure to modify that minute if needed). Eventually try to add two more minutes, and so on. Another way to increase your endurance is to lessen the intensity of your current workouts so that you are able to go longer. Once your body gets comfortable with the longer modified version, gradually eliminate some modifications until you are able to do the workout as is.

Another way to build endurance, one of my favorites, is to do a walk/run program. To do this, simply walk for about 5 minutes at a nnormal pace for a warm up. Then walk faster for another five minutes. After that go into a fast (and I mean fast;-)) walk for 3 minutes. From that point on, if you are not too winded(and if you are too winded, keep with a walk only program for now), do 30 seconds to a minute of jogging, followed immediately by brisk walking for 30 seconds to a minute. Do this for as many cycles as you can comfortably handle. Then finish off with a 10 minute cool down walk and a five minute stretch. Good Luck!
