How to get out stains in carpet

BAM

Cathlete
What would you recommend for getting out various stains in carpets? I have some pet stains from my cat throwing up and what I used didn't work and just left a stain. I have a stain from water that came in from the massive snow that we had and I have a few unidentifiable ones as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have used the Bissell SpotBot to clean up after my pets. The incident was still fresh so it wasn't a set in stain but the SpotBot has a setting to clean set in stains.

My carpet is a mauve color and it cleaned it a little too well in the spots because it made the carpet brighter in the spot it cleaned up than the rest of the carpet.

The SpotBot is really only good for small areas. If you want to clean your entire carpet, you would need to get a full-sized steam cleaner which I can't recommend any.

Hope that helped.

I have 2 cats and a dog, sooooo, this is from experience...

SPOT SHOT is good. (Got it at Walmart).Works on old and new pet stains. I usually use that, plus one of those absorbant chamois to absorb the extra liquid. If it's STILL there, I use my Scunci steam cleaner.

I had the same problem and a co-worker recommended the following (it works like a charm)...you'll need a bucket filled with warm water, a scrub brush, that yellow bar of Sunlight soap and elbow grease. Simple yet effective.

I hate beige carpeting! My dog is a pee-er (is that a word?). We recently rented the Rug Doctor from our local Safeway. The cost is minimal $24/day, $26 with the stair-hose attachment. The clerk said that any carpet cleaner could be used. It worked beautifully!! Got out the pee, barf and mystery stains perfectly!

Happy cleaning!

My mother in law had a cat and she would use hydrogen peroxide on those tough stains that carpet stain removers wouldn't get out.

Oh, thank you everyone. I am absolutely loving all of your suggestions! Something's going to work, I'm sure. My BF gave me some Quick 'n Brite paste to use on the stain from the water and it did fade it but not completely. I want a one shot deal so I'm looking forward to trying all of your ideas.

Thanks again!

I second the Spot Shot recommendation- it really works wonders! I have 2 little children and a 14 yo dog with bladder issues and can't live without Spot Shot. Nature's Miracle works great for pet smells. It has enzymes that break down urine and vomit odors. I also bought an upright carpet shampooer several years ago and it has more than paid for itself.

Wow, I can't believe I asked this question over 1 1/2 years ago. Where does the time go?

I haven't tried the Spot Shot yet and would like to but was wondering if that bleaches out the carpet and leaves a cleaner look in the area you used it than the rest of the carpet? So many spot removers do that. My carpet now looks like a bunch of patchwork. I wish I could bleach my entire carpet to make it look that clean. :D

Any feedback on the Spot Shot?

Thank you!

I wish I could power. Wash mine with bleach lol. I stiill havnt found anything for the whole carpet but I found a cleaner with oxyclean it helps smmall stains.

For really bad stains, I use Folex cleaner (Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover removes spots and stains). It's another home depot only cleaner. It's amazing though...it works better than even spot shot. I have been able to even get koolaid stains up with that. I have a Hoover steamvac that I use too with home depot professional grade shampoo. That will usually remove any dog related stain. The shampoo smells great too!

Ha! Home Depot should hire you as a spokesperson, lol. Does the Folex leave bleach stains in the area? Do you know what I mean? Don't know if you've had that happen before.

Thanks!

Lol...I know right? I really like Home Depot though and could spend tons of money there if I had it!

I have not noticed any discoloration in the carpet when using Folex. I did however notice some minor ones with Spot Shot. Spot Shot is good too but IMO Folex is better.

So it's off to Home Depot I go, lol. With your recommendation on the tile cleaner and now the rug cleaner, my feet will be happier walking on cleaner surfaces. Now, if I could just find someone who's an expert to actually clean them for me. Hmmmmmm, TRSTACIE, and where is it that you live? :D

Thank you!

Denver, CO! I do offer my services though. Last week I was shampooing my neighbor's carpets since she was having trouble using the carpet shampooer I lent her. ;)

Ha! Well I'm on the east coast and air fares can be cheap if you book them far enough in advance and.........:D

This may sound strange, but if you go to wizardsproducts.com look up Power Clean. That stuff gets stains out of anything. I even use it in my steam cleaner at home to wash my carpets. A neightbor used it on her off white carpet to get out a spill from Tang, and she now has a clean spot on her carpet where the spill was. You can even use it in the wash in place of bleach for your whites, and I swear your whites come out cleaner.
