How to get a Certified copy of Birth Certificate?

My son is needing to get a Certified copy of his Birth Certificate for a job. I went to our bank & she said that she couldn't do it. I have his orginal & it is certified (with the raised stamp) I don't know where is to go. Does anyone have any ideas how to go about getting a "Certified copy of a Birth Certificate"?

In CT, we get them from the TOWN/CITY HALL of our birth.

You have to request it from the state where he was born. Do a Google search on "birth certificate" and the State name and you will probably see a State Web site in the results. I did this a few years ago from Georgia. You could also look in the phone book under State government offices if you live in the state where he was born.

I had to get my DH one before a trip. I live in MI so I ended up going down to Lansing to the State Records department. I think it varies from state to state. Start at your (where the birth was) county level and then move from there.

In my hometown, they're obtained at the city's health department.

That is the state that he was born in (Woodhaven, Mi.) but we live in Wi. now, so it is pretty hard to get one in person.
Maybe I can find something on the internet.

You can get one over the phone from the county clerk's office. I had to pay to get it mailed to me and it took just a few days. In certain counties the rules are different (I am in Michigan, too. Mine was from Oakland County), so just call the county clerk and find out what you need to do (or go to the website for the county he was born in).

Too weird--I just barely ordered one for my son and hopped over here to check the forums.

I'm in Utah, and my state has a web-site where you can order it. It's faster than sending in the form and the check--and the same $15 fee. Check the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the state where your child was born.
