How to clean dvd's

Do they have special lint-free cloths that clean your dvd's and is there anything that will get rid of scratches? I take such special care in handling my dvd's so I don't know how they're getting scratches unless it's through my dvd player which is fairly new. Thank you.

Oh no!! - hope it's not your Cathe dvd's. I hope this will help - when I used to belong to Netflix, I think it was on their mailer - it said if a dvd was not working properly, to clean it with some "windex". I always used a regular paper towel and will admit that I have only had the need to do this to rented dvd's. It did work. Hope it will work for you.

Do NOT use a regular paper towel. And if you clean a DVD or a CD, only wipe from center to outside, NOT in a circular pattern.

Many stores have DVD/CD cleaning fluid and cloths (the same work for both).

If there are actually scratches (rather than smudges), you can repair superficial ones with a CD/DVD repair kit. If, however, the scratch is on the label side, and you can see through the DVD/CD when you hold it up to the light, it can't be repaired.

Yes, there are special cleaners and cloths to use to clean your DVD's and CD's. I get mine at Wal-mart near where you buy the blank DVDs and CDs in electronics. There you will find kits that have the little cloths and the cleaning solution. They also have scratch repair kits that can fill in the scratches although I haven't had to use that. They also have a DVD/CD player cleaner that you put in your DVD player. It is a DVD that has little hairs on it and when you go by the instructions and use it, it will brush away the dirt on the lens inside your DVD or CD player. I use the cleaning solution on my DVD's all the time because my 3 & 4 year olds put there sticky and dirty fingers on the kid DVDs so this helps clean them or they won't work in the DVD player. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone for your helpful tips! I had forgotten to ask about an actual DVD cleaner so I thank you for mentioning this. I'm at Wal-Mart all the time so I'll be sure and look for those items then. Thanks again for all of your responses. :)
