How much jumping around?

Cathlete
I'd really like to buy some Cathe cardio tapes (I have the PS series), and I've enjoyed reading all of your posts, but I need some guidance. I do my workouts in an upstairs bedroom (carpeted) of an older home, and I just don't feel right doing a lot of jumping around over the living room! How much jumping is involved in Cathe's videos? Should I just stick with her step videos to be on the safe side? If so, which tapes should I start with. Thanks!

Cathe does power stepping, so she adds propulsion to a lot of moves even on the step, but she also always reminds you to modify any move to suit you. So you would still get a tremendous benefit out of her stepping even if you leave the jumping out. But you might find that jumping on the step absorbs a lot of the noise and shock to your bedroom floor, so you might be able to do it. The only things that involve high impact aerobics on the floor itself are tapes like MIC and some of the Crosstrain Express workouts have sections of hi/lo. But again, pretty much all of her moves can be easily and obviously altered to be non-impact and they'll still be tough enough to get you sweating and working.

What kind of cardio do you like to do? It's hard to just recommend one out of the blue without knowing more about you. Are you looking for something super challenging? Personally, I love Bodymax, Interval Max and Circuit Max. If you want some moves that are powerful but easier to follow, I find Powermax to be tons of fun, really tough, but a slightly slower tempo so it's a good Cathe tape to start with, and the moves you learn in PM are in a lot of other tapes so it's a good place to start.

I'm also in week 4 of her Crosstrain Express 6 day rotation and it's been fantastic. Never boring, every workout is great and really diverse, and my body has been responding so quickly. You have to buy them as a set, so that might be more in the future for you, but it covers everything; step, hi/lo, kickbox, intervals and weight training. Great ab work too.

Thanks so much for responding! I always enjoy your posts, no matter who they are directed to.

Right now I'm in a rut working out on the treadmill and fitting in the occasional Nordic Track session (neither is often enough or long enough, though). When I went to the health club, I enjoyed the step classes the most, not the dancy aerobics classes. So I am asking Santa for a step for Christmas and I'll be choosing some Cathe tapes!

Everyone raves about the six-pack, but I wonder if I should just pick-and-choose among the step videos instead and work out a rotation with my PS tapes.

Thanks again!

That's not a bad idea, actually, just getting a few step tapes to work in with Pure Strength. After my next rotation I'll be returning to the PS series and adding cardio after. That's a great series, too.

Want some recommendations on step tapes? Well, I'll give em to ya anyway! :) I LOVE Powermax, that reminds me most of the live classes I used to take. I love the music and the moves, and it's a slightly slower tempo than her other stuff, but it's still really challenging. And Bodymax is intense and fun, too. That's 90 minutes altogether; 30 minutes of really high intensity step, about 25 minutes of circuit training for legs with step and a barbell, and upper body with weights (more for endurance than strength).

I also LOVE CircuitMax. That alternates between step, hi/lo and kickboxing with upper body with weights. It's low weight, hi rep so it would be great to throw in once a week with your strength training, if you can take a day or two off in between, so carve out some good definition as you build. Can you tell I love her stuff? it's easy for me to ramble on about it. Hope this helps!

And thank you for your very sweet comment about my posts. Nary a kind word escapes my radar!

Take care.

Hi,
I assume that you must have a roommate that you don't want to disturb which is nice of you to consider. Sounds like you already have some of Cathe's step videos since you asked the question "should I just stick with her step videos". So, I'm assuming you are asking if the hi/lo and kickbox videos include a lot of jumping around. (I'm not sure if I completely understand your question) The answer in my opinion would be "yes, they do". However I suppose you could modify them and take out alot of the jumping. Only problem, in Max. Intensity Cardio (in my opinion, one of the best Cathe videos!!) taking out the jumping would take out some of the fun. Same thing for the new Crosstrain 10-10-10 video which includes kickbox, hi/lo, and step. The hi/lo in this video is similar to MIC and includes quite a bit of jumping.

I think, however, that Cardio Kicks has less jumping than some of the hi/lo videos. (Except for those ice breakers that you jump on, but then that would be easy to modify). With most of your kicking, you will always have one foot on the ground, so I believe Cardio Kicks could easily be modified to not disturb your roommate. And Cardio Kicks is MAJOR FUN!!!!!!

Happy Holidays to you.
