How much fat/oil do you eat in a day?

Cathlete
I eat 2-3 T a day, usally olive oil. A friend of mine was telling me that I should never go over 1 T a day since I'm trying to loose weight? What do you think?
Thanks!
Rhonda

Does this include what is naturally found in foods you eat or just the fat you "add" while cooking?

I don't track my fat intake at this time as I am not trying to lose any weight. I just try to eat clean 80% of the time.

When I was losing weight I was consuming a diet that was 20-25% fat.

i get about 40-50g of fat for the day. most of eat is from peanut butter:9 but i do use some light olive oil when cooking veggies. and i go for low fat cheeses instead of no fat so i get added fat there.

I usuallly take in 2tbs of olive oil or avocado or macadamia nut a day, 1 tbs of butter (I can't eat some kinds of veggies without it!) and the naturally occurring fats in nuts and seafood. When I read Tosca Reno's book about eating clean I really paid attention to the kind of fats I was getting, and that sure makes a huge difference, not only in calorie consumption but in how you feel and how your skin looks. Just remember that you do need some fat in your diet or you won't absorb some of the nutrients in your food, especially fruits and veggies. Good luck!

The 2-3 T includes everything. The only extra fat may be the 1 ounce of feta cheese I put in my greek-egg white omlet in the pm (Yum!).

Really???? You don't ever eat nuts (or nut butterts?), flax seed, avocados, any foods other than veggies and fruits (most V/F don't have much fat in), other 'good' fats?

I think the healthiest fats are those found in whole foods (nuts, avocados, coconut, olives) and limit the amount of oil (ie: extracted and processed fat) that I consume.

I think the only way you will know if you are consuming too much or too little fat is to track your calories and nutrients (fat/protein/cab) in fitday or some other program and see what % of your diet your fat intake is. You need fat in your body and it sounds like you might not be consuming enough but it depends on how many calories you eat in an average day.

When I was tracking this info to lose weight I was consuming 1500-2000 calories per day and like I said, my fat consumption was about 20-25% of that. I, ofcourse, tried to keep the fats as healthy as possible as well.

I try to keep my fat at about 20 percent of my total calorie intake and have not had any problems losing weight. I also only eat "good" fats like a tablespoon of ground flax seed in my morning smoothies.
