Sooooooooooooosan....you're obsessed!!

Briee (you didn't have a catagory for 896 - Buckingham's bummed)

Edited...okay so you did, but 11 is so vastly different from 896 in his opinion

I would be able to vote in this poll if we could vote in fractions... I can do 1/3 of a pullup right now...

BUT now that I've taken over bootcamp in the morning, I can stay later and work on the bar at the park!! So I'll be much better able to converse on this subject... :D (I know- just what you need!!! Someone else to talk pullups with!!!! LOL)

Actually, I'm quite proud of my 1/3 pullup.

I think you know, but I can do 3 at once. My personal best in one day is a total of 9 chins (thats divided in sets of 1,2, and 3)

Oh good! I can still speak to most of the people here. Who answered in the 11+ range? Was that you, Briee?

Oh, and I should've qualified that I'm talking about unassisted from a dead hang w/no rest between reps.

When I used to do them....I could do 3 unassisted....I know they are good for you but it drives me nuts I can't do more...x( :+ :)

"Oh, and I should've qualified that I'm talking about unassisted from a dead hang w/no rest between reps."

Using the above qualifier I can do:

Underhand grip (Chin-ups): 20 for the first set
Overhand grip (Pull-ups): 15 for the first set
Wide Grip pull-ups: 11 for the first set

Can you share you training plan that helped you get to the points where you are now with your numbers? Very impressive!

I believe Rogue is a guy correct???? Completely different comparison. Although I will say that you are doing great Rogue, but to compare women to men, athletically, is like comparing giraffes to horses, similar but completely different. My opinion - don't blast me away for it.

Yes Soosan, it was me that checked the 11 plus, only because I have currently done a set of 11 - 3 times to date. This morning I did a set of 9 after my cardio workout, and that was completely and totally all I could do....no 11 happening this morning. I love chinups though!!

Briee (you HAVE to speak to me Sooooooooooooosan - I'm exempt from the chinup/no speak rule:p :p )

I am very much a female. When I started trying pullups many years ago, I could do 3 or 4 - once. I started the hanging as long as I could and then lowering myself verrrrrrrrry slowly. Then I just persisted each time to eek out as many as possible as many sets as I could. When I started working on the wide grip pullups it really made chinups and regular pullups happen more easily. This past Friday I did 6 sets of wide grips for a grand total of 50.

I discovered that I like to do pullups and I am genetically set up to be good at them. I have a lot of strength for my size. I am not going to go into actual poundage numbers here but for my back I do pulldowns using a weight that is about 100% of my weight. For my biceps I curl about 70% of my weight. Do I look like Goliath?!? Heck no! I am just persistent as all get out and I subscribe to the theory that you can do anything if you set your mind to it. EVEN AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A GIRL!!!!!!

Rogue.....MY VERY HUMBLE APOLOGIES. I am sincerely impressed and Sooooooooooooosan...you are completely justified in not speaking to her, but I for one feel impressed to place you on my buddy list if it's okay with you Rogue (whatever that means - anyone know why we have buddy lists????) ;) ;).

We need to talk.

So, exactly how long did it take you to progress to 20? You mention doing very slow eccentrics, did you typically do these in place of pullups throughout the week or in addition. I'm thinking I need to add many widegrip pullup eccentrics to increase my chinup reps per your post...would this be a correct? How old are you?? What kind of body type? What is your daily diet?

>"do I look like Goliath? Heck no!"

I wouldn't mind looking like Goliath, but it's not happening thus far.

Yes, I agree you can reach your goals with persistance, girl or otherwise. I was thinking back to a post many moons ago and thinking that you were male - I may have been thinking of Wayne, can't remember - again apologies.

Briee

One more thing...I need you to check in in the chinup thread. I need the push and all the advice you can give. My dh is standing behind me saying "sure you insult her by calling her a guy and then want her to check in".

Hmmmmm....interesting statement dh, I won't touch that one.

Briee

Atta Girl! Yep, anyone can do it - remove the word "can't" out your vocabulary!

It's quite alright Briee. My DH is laughing his butt off at this whole thing too. He is witness to my pull-up "greatness"! :7  Actually, he and I workout together and he makes sure his pullup days DO NOT fall on the same days as mine because he says I make him look bad. He is a rock solid muscle guy too! I am 33 years old, 5'4" tall. I am small boned and don't weigh a heck of a lot but I do carry around more than my fair share in muscle weight. Actually I started lifting in my early 20's because I wanted a Goliath look (just kidding). I eat to support a very active lifestyle. I do not deny myself anything except wheat - I am allergic to it!

As for pullups - Let's see, I did do quite a few of the eccentrics after I could do no more regular pullups. So I was darn tired and they made me sore as all get out the next day or so! I added the wide grips for a challenge but I was already up to 10-12 on the regular pullups at that point. I do tend to do the wide grips at a slower rate than the normal pullups and I am always sore after I do them. Go figure.

I will have to see about the check in. I have been more of a "reader" than a "writer" here in Cathe land of late. Probably need to post more so I don't get accused of being, of all things, a . . . guy (OMG!!!)}( :p :+
