I am 5'3. I need to lose about 7lb. I am very active. I workout about an hour and a half in the morning ( cardio and weights), I ride my horses during my lunch break and I do pilates in the evening. About how many calories should I have in a day? Please help!!!!

Have A Blessed Day!!!

Are you eady for this one? Could get confussing.
I got this out of the oxygen mag.Get your paper
STEP 1: Calculate your RMR:
RMR=447.593+(3.098*ht)+(9.247*wt)-(4.33*age)
Key= kilocalories per day
ht= in centimeters(inches multipled by 2.54
wt=in kilograms (pounds divided by 2.2)
age= in years
Example: Melanie weighs 135 pounds and is 5-foot-4 and 23.
Her RMR is 1420 calories
RMRkilocalories per day
ht=162.6 cm (64 inches * 2.54 cm)
wt=61.4 kg (135pounds/2.2 kg)
age= 23
RMR= 447.593+(3.098* 162.6)+(9.247 * 61.4) -(4.33*23)
= 447.493+ 503.7+ 567.8 - 99.6
RMR= 1420
Times this number by how active you are:
couch potatoe 1.4
low to moderate 1.6
high 1.8
extremely high 1.9
Melanie is 1.6
1420* 1.6= 2272
So to lose 5 pounds you have to take 500 calories off of everyday.Which you will be surpries, its alot of food.Hope you picked sence of all that.I f you didn't you can just send me your height ,weight and age and I can do it for you but im sure you will be alright.

Farm Girl,

We're right about the same height and weight! 5'3", 107 but I'm 37. Can't wait to see what the calorie count comes to.

Lori, do you add 500 calories per day if you want to gain weight? And which issue of Oxygen is this in? I think I may have it. I recall reading a calorie determination article a couple of weekends ago. I am so far behind in my magazine subscription readings.

Thanks, Angie

Hey pfive - I am exactly the same height and weight as you and I am 30 years old. A lot of people have been saying that I need to put on some weight though. Is 107 a healthy weight or are you trying to put on weight? 3 months ago I was stuck on 115lbs and now I can't seem to stop losing weight. I am petrified that it is not fat that I am losing but muscle. I keep wondering if 107 is too light for someone who has good muscle content. I am eating the best I can without stuffing myself - oh well, wouldn't it be nice if somebody could give us that magical number on which we could maintain hard earned muscle and shed obstinate flab. In the meanwhile I guess I'll just go back to eating the best I can and my PS rotation (hopefull I will gain some muscle and shed some fat with that). Sorry, I was almost talking to myself in this post. Lori, I'd love to know which Oxygen issue this is as well so I can buy it.

It is the July issue.According to my calculations farm girl ....
you need 1331 calories just to be you, and not to move...but I will multiply that by 1.8.
Now that gives me 2395 calories.So youtake away 500 from that and you should be able to lose 1 pound a week.Personnal I don't think you need to lose any.I told you that you would be surprised at how much you actually need.
And to answer the other question..yeah you just add 500 calories if you want to gain weight.Hope I helped you guys.I won't be checking in anymore untill Sunday I am gooing out of town for the weekend.
HAve a great weekend,
Lori
