How many of you are planning on doing the STS series Rotation? Now that I am standing in line to get it I am wondering what I should do to prepare because I can't lift much. I am working my upperbody right now I have not gone over 15 lbs in one body part Bi's Tri's Shoulders is this ok? Can we break the series up and just use individual DVD's in a workout rotation? I am going to read the STS description from Cathe because I am still lost on the whole 1RM thing

Hi Beth,

I have not read the WHOLE description of STS. Keep in mind this is based on YOUR 1 Rep Max. While the workouts are geared toward heavier weight work it is customized to your abilities at the current time and will change of course as your 1 RM increases due to strength gains after using the series. The 1 RM is the best way to find what weight you need to use for the exercise that will result in muscle failure thus resulting in muscle growth and strength gains.

I am sure others will chime in with better answers than mine.

ETA: I guess that was not even your question, I am going to do them as a series. I think it will be fun to see what I can or (can't) do at the start and compare that it strength gains by the end of the series.

I am planning on doing STS strictly as planned. I have never limited my cardio that much before, but you know what - I'm not that happy with my body right now - so perhaps limiting my cardio will be a good thing!! Also, if I find that I miss my cardio, I can always use STS in a 'different' way next time, but I'm gonna do the entire series as planned first, and see what happens to my bod. I'm so excited!!!

As for weight loads - I'm almost certain that somebody who can't lift more than 3 lb weights would benefit from doing STS!!

Also, I don't think 15 lbs is anything to be ashamed of - that's a lot of weight! That said, I bet you'll be able to lift even more than 15 lbs if you give STS a try. I can't wait to be able to lift heavier!!

In testing my 1RM, I was truly surprised to find that I've been lifting a lot lighter than I could/should be.

To find your 1RM - simply pick up a dumbbell and do something like a triceps kickback or a biceps curl. Go for 10 reps. If you can make it to 11 reps, try a heavier weight next time. If you can still keep going after 10 reps, try a heavier weight next time, etc. Once you find a weight that allows you to hit 10 reps that won't let you get to 11 - you've found your 1RM. And since the DVDs haven't even filmed yet, you still have lots of time to find your 1RM.

HTH!

It can be done over 3 months or 6 months and I strongly suspect I'll need to do it the long way because my crazy work schedule means I never know when my work day will end (8, 10, 12 hours? Who knows). But yea, I'm going to knock myself out to stay on schedule and do it straight through. If I think I can do it in 3 months, though, I will. I have this fantasy of finally being able to wear cute little girl clothes by summer (I'm a size 14 now... still). But I've seen the BLOG photos and everything they're doing looks like something I can't EVEN do so I'm praying for lots of modification options so I can gradually get there. I only just increased my bi/tri weight to 15lbs so I'm behind YOU in ability. In fact, as I was about to pick up my pretty shiny round chrome 15lb dumbbell (up from 10lbs) I thought 'I sure could use hexagon dumbbells with Platemates now...' Here's hoping I can afford some of that stuff before STS comes out. I'm still terrified of pullups and pullup bars. I think I still weigh too much for such an apparatus to be safe to use. I'll figure something out.

Thanks guys for answering. I need to get more dumbbells now. I bought the Target brand like select tech and they are a bit bulky but will have to work until I get them.
