How Long to Master Stepping?

I just got IMAX 2. I really wanted a high intensity workout, but having watched the video, I am scared to try it. The stepping segments look so complicated. How many tries does it take on average to get the hang of it? I know if I can't get most of it right, I am not going to get the kind of workout I'm looking for. :( I am not as coordinated as I'd like to be! Thanks for any help.

I am very klutzy and have never been the dancer type, so when I first watched Imax2, I had the same reaction. BUT, if you watch it in little segments and practice the moves, rewind and do it again, go through it in slow motion if you have that option, you'll get it.The first few times you do the tape, your focus will be on getting moves, not getting a good workout (although you'll still probably sweat more than you think you will :) ) Some people on this forum have suggested trying the step moves on the floor first, just to get your feet going the right direction.

Here's what you have to remember: if the routine were easy to master, you would also become bored with it easily. The more complicated moves make it more fun once you get them. ALSO, once you get the hang of Cathe's choreography style on one tape, future tapes come together more easily for you, too.

TNo one has to know how many times you rewinded! :) Now go do that tape!

I was never able to "get" IMAX 2 until about 6 tries. And that was after my children went back to school this year. I had to have complete quiet in the house so I could focus. But what a blast!! The music will stay in your head for the rest of your day! Modify any moves you need to and that will help you. If you can access the Firm ya ya's fitness board, go to the board called "the Classics" and read "Life Lessons from IMAX 2. " You will not feel alone in your struggle. You can get the link to the ya ya's from Video Fitness.com Take Care and have fun!!

Give yourself a week. It's not as hard as you think. Plus once you get the hang of Cathe's steps, it's very easy to pick up the new moves.

Don't be afraid!!! You will get it! This is one of the funnest workouts ever! Just try to break it down into small chunks. Don't try to learn the whole workout the first time. Maybe just focus on the first couple of intervals. Since each step section routine is repeated 6 times, you'll probably surprise yourself at how quickly you do pick it up! :) :) :)

Thank you all so much for your responses. They were all so good and encouraging! I went ahead and gave it a whirl. No, I didn't get it right on the stepping. Most of the time I had two left feet. I was able to do the power moves though! :D I did sweat! The next time I do it, I am going to break it down into segments and do the slo-mo thing and really work on those combos. You're right - if we got it the first time, it wouldn't be very challenging! And that is what we want or we wouldn't be buying Cathe's videos and DVDs.

Thanks again!

I agree - don't be afraid. I have had this one since the intensity series came out. I can't tell you how long it took me to master it because I'm still working on it! I just do what I can, and modify a lot. I still, for the life of me, can not do interval 3 - I just skip it (don't tell the workout police).

Right now, I have mastered Interval 1, 2, 4, 5 and 10 but remember, I have had this workout since the series came out - must be well over a year - right? I'm working on learning the other intervals.

Sometimes I'll be doing it and like magic, I can do a move that I couldn't before - it just takes practice - I still have problems with any figure eight turning move and over the top backwards moves - when she is doing that, I just sub in something I can do with high intensity - like knee ups corner to corner or some other move that I can do.
