I never eat before I work out in the early morning. I just can't stomach it. But I did try a useful hint which someone (sorry, can't remember who) posted awhile back, which was to have a small carb-rich snack before bed. It really did make me feel stronger in the AM. Unfortunately, I had to abandon the practice for now as I'm on SB. But I will go back to it eventually.
If I work out later in the day, such as on a day off, I wait about 30 min. for strength, 60 min. for cardio.
I'm sure we're all different on this though.

I don't exercise in the early morning. I exercise in the afternoon. I think we have time but we lose too much time seing the television. Exercise is a priority in my life and I alway find time to exercise.
A Cathe's workout is a party time for me.

I wait 2-21/2 hours. I always eat 2 slices of peanut butter toast, and milk. I also have juice and some coffee right away in the morning. I think food digests quicker in the morning because of having an empty stomach. My doctor suggested this, because I am quite hypoglycemic in the morning. She said peanut butter toast is a good food choice. She is right. I feel good when I exercise and I never get shakey or have side aches.

I workout in the early mornings to and eat nothing before hand. I remember once having to work out in the afternoon and this was about four hours after lunch, and I still felt the need to puke! Never again:7

Hi Jes,

It depends on how much food and what type of workout. If it's a snack, I don't usually have to wait too long if I'm lifting, but I'll wait 45 minutes to an hour to do cardio.

If it's a meal, I might wait longer.

I work out in the late afternoon, and usually will have a snack if it's a work day. How long I wait depends on what type of workout I'm doing, and how much and what I ate. If I'm doing an ab intensive workout, or a workout that includes a lot of jumping, I stick with a light snack (maybe even a soy protein meal replacement), or if I eat more, I'll wait longer--about an hour.

If I'm doing a weight workout, I can usually eat a bit more and/or wait less time. Sometimes as little as 15 minutes, but usually a half hour.

Same as Gayle here--depends on the amount of food & which workout. I don't eat anything before my early morning cardio workouts (although I must confess to a cup of coffee--no way am I doing an IMAX workout w/o some caffiene!). On w/e mornings before I go to the gym I usually eat a few hardboiled eggs, but it's at least 15 minutes before I get to the gym & get on the elliptical.

I work out in the evening-after dinner...I usually wait anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours after eating depending on what else I have to do. Never had a problem....I think it's an individual thing...everyone reacts differently....I can't work out on a completely empty stomach-I don't like the way I feel. Consequently, I don't exercise in the mornings before work.

I workout first thing in the am, so I don't eat anything, but do drink a glass of water before I start. That helps a lot. Afterwards, by the time I shower, feed the dog, and get the kids out the door, it's usually an hour before I have coffee and some breakfast.

Hi Jes! I work out in the a.m. first thing so don't have anything but water prior to working out. But if I workout in the afternoon I make sure I've had a good lunch and then a snack (like an apple) an hour before I do the workout. Like others though, it depends on what I'll be doing.

If I'm exercising in the morning, I start exercising right after I finish my last spoonful of cereal. It's a very light "meal", so the puking feeling only comes when I'm hungover. :D I've always got too much I need to do to wait around for digestion!

If it's a day where I have to work, I exercise before dinner, so it's usually about an hour after the last thing I've eaten.

Depends on how full I am.If I just have a slice of toast in the morning,I won't wait very long. But if I just finished dinner, I will wait for about 3 hours.
I didn't think it mattered, only for getting sick. But apparently your body is using your blood to digest your food, then when you start working out,it stops digesting and goes to your muscles.
Someone else may have already posted that and I hope they explained it better then I did.
