How long did it take you?

befor you could do Cathe workouts with risers under your step? i still get winded with my step on the floor. should i wait until there is no challenge in stepping w/out risers before i add some height to my step?

IMO, there will never be NO challenge. It is always going to be kinda hard. When I am feeling pretty strong is when I add risers. I am more likely to add risers to my step for SJP, or Step Blast, Rythmic Step rather than for, say, IMAX 1 or 2. Try adding a riser to the "easier" Cathe step tapes. Personally, I feel risers are overated. But, I am also 5', so anything higher than 6" really feels akward....

Hi, you should be working out within your target heart range. If stepping without risers keeps you well up into your target zone, then that is fine. If you do cardio several times/week, you will eventually need to add a riser or two as your cardio abilities will increase. If your heart rate is below or in the lower part of your zone, time to beef things up a little now and add a riser.

Jes:

Some of it also depends on your knees. I've been doing the step workouts with 2 risers under each side to keep my heart rate up. However, I really pay for it in the knees. They ache and crack and creak the entire day afterwards, as well as the next day. I limit my step workouts to no more than 2 a week. Its nice to have kickbox and Hi/Lo to rotate for cardio!:)

I started with other step workouts before Cathe. I have never done anything less than an 8 inch step, as that is where I started. I feel like if your knees hurt afterwards, then definitely lower the bench or do floor work.
