How important is it to do Cathe step wrkouts for cardio?

I am just coming to Cathe after many years of the Firm. I have started Cathe with Stretch Max and Muscle Max, and when I have the $$ I will get Core Max.

I also liked the look of Low Max, but since my money is tight rght now, I wanted to ask how important it is to do Cathe's step workouts for your cardio. In other words, will results be any different if my cardio days were not Cathe workouts?

as long as its cardio that you enjoy and get results from. many just like to do cathe cardio b/c of the fun choreography and intensity but thats not to say other workouts don't have the same thing just a bit different style. i use a variety of cardio workouts(CIA,kathy smith, sometimes tae-bo and tamilee for lighter days)not just cathe and all get me moving and sweating.

do whatever cardio you enjoy just get your cardio in. for years i just did cathe's weight workouts b/c i felt that the step workouts were too complicated. but once i gave the learning curve a chance with her step workouts, i now incorporate them into my other cardio workouts.

As the other posters have said, do what works for you. Do note, Cathe has several other excellent cardio workouts that are not step-oriented (Drill Max is awesome, Kick, Punch and Crunch is a challenging and really fun kickboxing workout, and KickMax is a kickboxing workout w/intense cardio drills). I also like Bootcamp and High Step Challenge, for their cardio and circuit training combinations. Lots to choose from in Cathe-land. Find what works best for you!!

My goodness, there is no video instructor that is as great for cardio as Cathe.

If you buy Low Max, you will be hooked!

Step workouts are the foundation for all my cardio workouts.

I do kickbox, but don't enjoy it the way I do step cardio.

I did Rhythmic Step today and loved every minute of it. It is challenging and fun!

i use several different outlets for cardio, such as the Y's cardio machines, outdoor walking, rebounding as well as various dvds. To me, cathe's strength work is what trumps the FIRM, and when I changed from a primarily FIRM focus to cathe weight work..the real tranformation took place. The cardio does not matter as long as it is intense enough for your fitness level and is able to gradually increase your level.

ps- well her cardio trumps the FIRM too! }(

I get most of my cardio from non-Cathe avenues - like cycling, running or hiking. I love the outdoors. That's not to say that I don't enjoy a good step workout once in a while, but it's not my main cardio.

Thanks! I agree that not all weight workouts are the same, and some are much more effective than others. That is why I am switching to Cathe for my weight workouts. I am SO excited as so many of you Firm switchers are saying that REAL BIG changes started happening once you switched over to Cathe! Muscle Max should arive today, and I am going to work with it in weight and time increments for at least a month as a way to get me into Cathe, then I plan to step into the GS workouts next by the end of the summer.

In terms of the cardio, I always thought the same thing: that cardio is cardio...as long as you are up in your target heart-rate zone, it does not matter what you are doing....tennis, jogging, walking, swimming, step, kickbox, rebounding, spinning, etc.

However, being that the pure cardio/heart-rate benefits are the same regardless of the workout type, aren't there differences in the extra bonuses of different types of cardio. For example, even though the heart-rate benefit is the same, do you get better speed, agility, endurance benefits from doing Cathe step? And are you getting a better leg workout by doing something dynamic that can tone the legs like step rather than something static like spinning? Also, I would think that you would get arm-toning benefits from tennis, swimming, etc.

I'm def getting comfortable with Cathe's complexity (the Firm is just too easy for me and I need to leap sky high to feel like I am doing anything!), and I see lots of ways to modify Cathe step while I am starting out....I'm just looking to be in the best financial situation now, as money is tight for the rest of the summer. So unless there was a compelling physcial reason to invest in the Cathe step workouts right away, I was going to suck it up for the rest of the summer and keep with my Firm cardios, and add in some walking, and tennis.
