How do you?

How do you talk yourself out of a binge or cheating on your diet? I need to lose weight as I have gained a lot in the last year. My hubby will bring home pizza and it's all out the window. I exercise enough, but the diet is lacking. It feels like it is never going to come off again. I did High Step Circuit today and I was soaked in sweat! I used to be able to do Cathe's more advanced workouts in their entirety and now I wouldn't think of it. If I make it through High Step Circuit that's good enough for me. At least until I lose some of this weight!

a few things that have worked for me,......

make sure youre drinking enough water. sometimes we're thirsty when we think we're hungry

when you want s'thing unhealthy....
drop and do 10 pushups
brush your teeth

good luck!:D

I usually eat "it" in small quatities with the help of a hot beverage. Coffee - green tea - helps the "comfort" level that I get from the junk food and fills me up faster. It is a challenge. Sometimes I will make a quick salad to go with it as well - at least then I don't feel as guilty because I also filled up on something healthy.

I'm in the same boat

When I lived with my BF I asked him not to bring any junk around.

If that is not possible, perhaps go run an errand or leave the house until he is done with his pizza. Ask him to order a few slices instead of a whole pie so there is no tempting leftovers.

I know this is wasteful, but whenever I have an urge for ice cream or brownies, I will buy the smallest thing of ice cream I can find, I measure 1 serving and then throw the rest out. I will even put it in the sink and ruin it with hot water. This way I can have my treat and not over indulge. I have already eaten an entire pint of Hagan Daz in one sitting.

I will buy one brownie from Panera, take 2 fork fulls and then throw the rest in the trash. I won't eat out the trash! haha!

One more thing...

I used to make a rule that if I had a treat the day before, I would do 10 extra minutes of cardio the next day. Of course 10 minutes won't burn it completely off, but you can at least feel good again.

ive done the same as becky......eat a portion-controlled amount and ruin the rest.
ive even gone so far as to throw it in the trash and spray windex on it just to be sure there's no going back!

haha!!!

Haha! That is too funny. I know what you mean though. I have tossed out cake and then just stared at it. Fotunately I have walked away.

This reminds me of an episode of Sex and the City. Miranda threw out a cake and then ate it out of the trash can. She also ate an entire cookie cake from a bf who loved her. She did not love him. It saaid I love you on it so she ate the whole thing to make it go away. haha!

Here are my rules:

1. Don't have it around the house, if possible.

2. Ask yourself how it will make you feel if you eat it. This would usually stop me in my tracks. I knew that I would feel bad if it ate it, so I just wouldn't.

3. Have a small piece and toss the rest.

I know this really won't help but normally if I really want something it is all I can think about until I have it. I do pretty good most of the time but then there are those times that you just have to give in...a little. I am not saying to eat the whole package of oreo's. Just maybe buy the little pack from the convenience store.
If you really look at your eating habits there might be alot of things you can just cut back on and trust the little things really do add up.
I used to be a big proponent of not ordering the food I want and just having a bite of the DH's. This adds up. So just maybe watch your nibbles.:D

Good Luck

Snitker, if you are dealing with emotional eating (eating because it gives you some kind of high - whether the high feels physical or emotional), Tom Venuto's books can help. Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle's ideas on how to change your habits and your mindset have totally turned me around. I was a binge eater and though I am not perfect, I am a binger no more! And I have lost around 12-13 pounds so far.

Now that my habit is to eat right and my mind has changed, everything is different. I haven't read his new one (The Bodyfat Solution), but I have heard great things about it.

And if you're wondering just how bad I was, I was able to eat an entire box of Little Debbie brownies in a day, and I could do it several times a week. I could not stop doing it, no matter what I tried. That was then, though. :)

I am exactly the same way, and it's such a relief to commiserate with others who deal with this. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one and it's AWFUL.

Generally, I find I do best in controlling my cravings by simply doing a little planning. If I decide in advance that once a week, like say, every Friday, I'm allowed to have one serving of whatever treat I want, then it makes it a lot easier to eat the way I'm supposed to and get through the rest of the week without sabotaging myself. I, for one, love cupcakes, so if I know that on Sunday (which is my treat day), I'm going to get to have one, somehow, eating clean the other six days doesn't seem so bad. I just make a deal with myself.

I LOVE this!!!!

I try to distract myself. Throw on my iPod and dance. Start making a salad, munch on cut up veggies as i cut them. Call my mom or a friend. Go out somewhere. If the feeling is still there, I'll try to eat something really filling, like oatmeal.

I try not to have it around but who can resist pizza occasionally. I make a big salad, have one slice of pizza and lots of salad. If I can't resist buying that muffin, I buy it and share it with everyone at home. That way I end up eating maybe a 1/4 of it.
