how do you eat?

Hi, all,

I have been experimenting with my eating lately. I've been trying the "bodybuilder"/ Body-for-Life way of eating with 6 small meals each day. The only thing is, I am still STARVING by 3-4pm that I end up scarfing down everything in sight. Maybe I just need to experiment a little more with WHAT I'm eating . . .

So I'm just wondering, how do you eat for energy/health/weight loss, etc.????

Would love to hear your plans!

Chrissy

Here's a sample menu for me:

Breakfast: 1 cup of kashi go lean crunch cereal w/ 1/2 cup milk

snack: 1 cup cottage cheese and fruit

Lunch: 3-4 slices deli turkey on whole wheat bread with a slice of cheese (l/f, f/f or even regular...it's only 1 slice)and either l/f mayo or mustard

snack: 1 or 2 tblspns of natural peanutbutter and a banana

Dinner: 1-2 pieces flounder or chicken with a veggie and whole wheat noodles

HTH a little.:)

I try not to eat a bunch of moldy type foods such as whole grain cereals, breads, or peanut butter. I have heard this causes to much of a fungus build-up in your body, which can make one very sick.

When I get hungry I grab some almonds or make a quick smoothie with blueberries.

"moldy type foods"??? That's a new one on me! I've never heard of such a thing. I've been eating whole grains for some time and I'm most certainly not sick. I think if you eat moldy bread, that might be a problem, though. LOL! ;) (I think most of us know to throw our bread out if it gets to the moldy stage!)

Anyway, as for my eating habits - I eat frequently. I don't follow anyone's diet "prescription", I just follow my body and what it wants. Everything is clean (well, for the most part) - vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts and beans, etc. The dietician I work with tells me that eating a larger breakfast containing 3 or more food groups can help curb your appetite all through the day. I find that it does help somewhat.

I do pretty much what Emily does. I listen to my body and fuel it with clean food (unless I am at someone else's house, then I just eat what they serve) when it tells me to.

I did try BFL four years ago, and I have to admit, I hated it. I quit after the first week because I felt so hungry and I was grumpy and noone wanted to be around me :-( . I vowed after that to not follow any diet or plan, but do as God intended: eat when my body says that it is hungry, use the foods that He put on this Earth (food in its most natural state), drink and be merry! :) I have lost almost all of my weight (that is over 120 pounds through 3 pregnancies) eating like this along with excercising. I do know some people who have had success with this while they stayed on the plan, however most of them gained the weight back afterwards (just a warning).

I do wish you the best of luck and I hope that you find something that works for you that makes you feel good and makes you healthy! Being hungry is no way to live.

Here is a sample day for me:

B 1 cup organic yogurt with 1/2 c walnuts and a banana
sn apple and piece of cheese
L dark green salad (spinach and another dark leaf) with boiled eggs, canned tuna, an orange and a piece of whole wheat bread and butter
sn diced cucumbers, red and green peppers with 1 c cottage cheese and pepper :9
D whole wheat fettaccini (sp?) with diced chicken and alfredo with added olive oil and a side of steamed brocolli

If I am pmsing, I will add or sub dark chocolate as a snack or for desert.:p

Missy

ETA that chocolate is the most important food group!!!!:p

My eating closely resembles Wendy's and Missy's. I haven't noticed any sort of fungal or moldy type growths or infections on/in my body.

I eat a "food combining" diet...This isn't a so-called "diet", but just a way of life for me...

I've said this before that I don't work for her, but check out www.marilu.com for more info...I would highly recommend her book,
30 Day Health Makeover...

PS I just want you all to know that as I was typing that, I had my cat in my lap...I got BIT, JUST FOR YOU!! Maybe he didn't agree with what I was typing??

Would you consider eating a bigger breakfast (bigger in terms of calories AND bulk - oatmeal with fruit + protein source)? I do this according to BFFM's recommendations, and have found that the feeling of fullness really carries pretty far through the day. I keep eating meals every 3 hours or so, but I never feel like I'm starving - just kind of hungry and able to eat a small meal. I really think its important too to get some fat in the morning to help you feel fuller...

Missy, your sample menu sounds great. Thanks for the ideas. All I have to do is replace the chicken with another protein (I eat fish every once in a while, but no other meat).

how do i eat? well.. usually with a fork or spoon!

sorry... i couldn't resist! :+ :+ :+

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

There is a website you all should check out about "moldy" type foods. It is www.knowthecause.com. It is ran by a doctor, microbiologist, and a nurse (oncology I think). They also have a tv show. It is about how we stuff ourselves full of mold...including food. According to them, some of the worst things to eat are whole grain cereals, peanuts, and corn. All in all, mold and fungus can make you sick...it may take years, but it will make you sick. One example I heard them discuss on the tv show is a couple who were showing signs of diabetes. They went on the phase one diet (see the website...it explains the phase diets) and their symptoms disappeared and they lost about 30 pounds.

My mother introduced me to this topic. It is very interesting. My mom is a health "nut"! I wasn't even allowed to have gum when I was a child!! LOL! She was very cautious on what we ate. She has started cutting out "moldy" foods such as cereal, breads, and peanut butter and has noticed her waistline shrinking.

Anyway, there is much more to it than this. I really encourage you all to check out the website if you need some backup information. Oh, and for the record...why do some of you have to be so critical sometimes??? This is new information and I am grateful my mother has shared it with me. I thought you gals would be glad I shared with you. However, some of you are just too quick to critize. Maybe as adults we can work on that....

Sara B

Mold grows inside your body...depending on what you put in it. It can take years to notice, but you will notice. Have you ever seen somebody with moldy, fungus toenails? There is so much more to it. Please don't be so critical. I think I read a post from Cathe a while back about being critical. Did you?

Sara B

Sara, I don't think anyone was being critical of what you said - we were simply stating that we had never heard of what you were talking about. Thank you for providing a link to more information.

Hi Sara,

I don't know if you were referring to my post but I really wasn't trying to be critical of you. I'm sorry if anything I said was interpreted that way.

One thing I would say, though, is that I can't think of a topic that would be less controversial than diet except for maybe politics and religion. LOL!! We all have our ideas about what constitutes healthy eating and I'm sure we can all provide documentation to prove our point. I think the final verdict is still out on that one.

Again, no offense intended;)

Michele

I did take one of the comments as being a bit of offensive. (Not yours) But, you are very welcome for the website. It is very interesting! Check it out!

Sara B

Thank you for the reply. I can tell ya that as soon as my mom said she noticed a her waistline shrinking...I was hooked! Plus, all of the health problems that are associated with mold, it makes me think twice about what I am putting in my mouth. As far as diets are concerned, people just need to do what works for them. There is no right or wrong answer. Due to this (you are right) it is very controversial.

Sara B

I was waiting to read a post like that! I thought for sure it would have been Shelley to post it! LOL!:7

BTW, I don't follow a set plan for my diet. I just try to eat 3 meals with 2 snacks all clean eating, of course. Don't get me wrong, I have my moments like last weekend when I made choc. chip cookies for my DS's b-day. Yum, yum and yummy!:9 I had one too many! I have to get the rest of them out of my house!}( I'll be passing them out at the bus stop tomorrow! LOL!
