How do you do a walking lunge?

This may seem like a dumb question...but how do you do a walking lunge? Are you really trying to walk and lunge at the same time? If so, where do you find room to do this? I would look a bit ridiculous walking down the road doing these. he he :9

Thanks,
Shirley

Do a forward lunge with right leg, then instead of pushing back to standing, go forward, as if you are coming out of a rear lunge, then lunge forward with left leg, etc. It actually does look rather silly when you do it in public! You could do a short version at home: go to the far end of the room, and do as many walking lunges as you can in one direction (3-5?), then turn back and go the opposite way.

Shirley;
I've done my walking lunges in my back yard or in my house from the kitchen to the other side of the house. I like doing them outside better though don't have to face the same walls 20 uptimes

Shirley, I do them in my basement because that is the longest "spread of area" I have in the house. Be sure your knee does not shoot out over your toes: think of going DOWN into the lunge, not forward (like Cathe says, "North & south, NOT east & west." Also, when you come out of the lunge, push off your FRONT heel to concentrate the work in your hams/glutes. Let us know if you have more questions.

I do them on the street while exercising my dogs, splitting up the lunges into 5 or 6 sets of 40 to focus on form. Maybe I look ridiculous, or maybe I just look like someone working on their fitness.

The trainers at my gym are big on walking lunges right now. See lots of people doing them down the long halls.

Or maybe like someone from Monty Python's Flying Circus doing a "Minsitry of Silly Walks" sketch!

I did my first set of walking lunges yesterday in my hotel room.

I managed to do 100 of them. I know the recommended # is 200 but I didn't wanna kill myself the very first time I tried it. I definately felt THE BURN! :eek: But I also felt like I really accomplished something when I was done :),even though it was the only exercise I did for the day!

How often should I do these if I want to incorporate them into my regular routine? Is once a week good or should I do it more??

Thanks in advance!

lol shirley, i look QUITE ridiculous walking to our mailbox at the top of our private drive...but not one neighbor has commented....as they sit on their front porch many summer nights, drinking and eating!}(

Hi Shirley,

When I'm outside playing with my three-year old son, that's when I do my walking lunges. I can do a lot more of them and my son thinks it's a game, he likes to walk along with me. He's so cute.
