All the images I have of me are jpegs. I am so computer challenged. Could someone tell me how to copy one of them to my user profile? Feel free to break it down as though I were 5 years old.
How do I do the Avatar thing?

LOL - you can't put a picture right from your computer into your profile. It has to be hosted somewhere, on a site like www.picturetrail.com or www.photobucket.com (both offer free picture hosting).
It's really easy to set up an account on either site and upload your pics from your computer. Once you've done that, come on back and we can help you put up an avatar picture

When you're in Picturetrail, click the tab on the top that says "get Image URLs". Choose the album you want to use the picture from. There will be a whole list of links you can use. There's one that starts with "http". Click on that one and it will highlight. Right click on your mouse and click "Copy". Go into your Profile page on Cathe.com, and under Avatar, right click and "Paste" that copied URL link.

you can get the URL for the particular pic you want to use and place in the avatar (use the IMG tag for remote linking)in your edit profile section.on the top of the page there is a tab for IMAGE URLS.pick the album where you have the pic you want to use and the pics will come up with all the urls for posting links in emails or using IMG tags to post pics in your messages here or in your avatar.
for example in my extended family album i have a pic of pops so i can use the remote img link for my avatar or use the IMG forum tag to post the pic below
voila there it is.

You don't need to use IMG tags to post images on the Cathe forums. Simply copy and paste the URL and your picture will show up. IMG tags cause a little symbol to appear before pictures - if you just use the URL with no IMG tags, those little symbols will go away.
