hot air popcorn popper - huh?

L Sass

Cathlete
So my old hot air popper finally bit the dust. We make a big bowl of popcorn every Friday for family movie night and the microwave method takes too long. We don't like the microwave packs of popcorn because of the bad fats - we add our own thank you very much!

I went to Bed, Bath, & Beyond and Linenes & Things to try to get a new hot air popper. I am now advised that these items are only stocked at Christmas time because they are a SEASONAL ITEM!!!! I could not believe that people only make hot air popcorn at the holiday time, but that's what 4 stores advised. They told me their research indicates that people only use these when they make popcorm strings for the tree or popcorn balls. Guess everyone uses the microwave packs. Blew me away!

Wow Lorrie, I never thought of them as being seasonal either....I wonder if any of our BJ's or Sam's carry them??? Good Luck! What movie did you all watch this past Friday? NOSEY, aint I?

Wow, that is odd!
Have you tried Walmart or Target? I don't know if you'd have any better luck, but it's worth a try. Then there's always online companies (even Amazon.com).

Talk about 'seasonal': For about TWO WEEKS at the beginning of January, my local Walmart had a whole new stock of exercise DVD's. When I went back to look for more (thinking maybe they would have a new selection coming in) they were all gone! How's that for seasonal: they probably found that 'people' only buy exercise DVD's in response to a New Year's resolution to get in shape (a resolution which, it seems, doesn't last long for most people!)

I researched this topic last year and found a microwave popcorn bowl on-line. It uses regular old fashioned popcorn and it goes in the mocrowave oven. There is virtually no clean up and it was cheap!

If I find the thread I'll post a link to it.

Edit to add: here is the link for the open fourm discussion with a link in it to the product. Check it out.

>Did you say you went to a store? What's a store? ;)

LOL!
About the only things I go to a store for nowdays are fresh produce and household supplies. Almost everything else I get online (and I had 5 UPS packages waiting for me yesterday when I got home from the grocery store (and the mailman just delivered and Eddie Bauer package).

Hi, That is odd. I couldn't find one for a long time and for my birthday, my brother found one at Walgreens. I wouldn't have even checked there. Hope you find another one. They are nice to have.

Another place to try: a hardware store. They usually have a few onhand (and seem less concerned about whether something is "seasonal" or not, unless it's garden stuff.

Ah-ha! Found one - the LAST one at Walmart. The cashier looked and said she didn't know they even made those anymore. OMG! Our last one was a Black and Decker that lasted 20 years. It was wonderful because it didn't have the "chute" style. I don't like those because they invariably pull the unpopped kernals with the popped pieces. Alas, given the difficulty in finding anything I took what I could get! Thanks for all of your input everyone. Oh - and Mama Deb - we started out with Narnia till the kids moaned it was too scary and then finished with Monsters Inc. But one I'm surprised my kids like - and I like due to Johnny Depp - is The Corpse Bride. LOVE Depp and Tim Burton! Thanks again ladies!
