Ok, as you all know i spent the whole day at the hosp. thursday.
Well let me tell ya. If i ate the food there everyday i would be in the cardiac unit...
Breakfast,
Sauasage, french toast, bacon, eggs, homefries..bagels, muffins bread, grapefruit slices...apples , banans.
Well, i had scrambled eggs and some grapefruit.
Lunch was worse....
Fried chicken grease breast, fried fish grease, ziti casserole, hamburgers, fries.Looked like long john silvers. Lots of pies cakes and junk food.
NOT 1 VEGGIE
I had a salad with beets and i was really hungry....
Not 1 thing baked or broiled. I would have been happy with a plain baked potatoe.
What do these hospitals think. No wonder why the one nurse had a lean cusine???
Aren't hospitals supposed to be healthy, not make you sick???

I just can't stomache the fried garbage anymore...
What are they thnking?

Having worked in the hospital for over 11 years, here's a nickel's worth of free advice....if you need to be in the hospital, you can specially request a cardiac diet or other special diet based on your preferences. "Regular" diet means just that....regular for society. Sorry, I didn't know that you were going to be in the hospital on Thursday, or I would have let you know in advance.

Isn't it amazing how bad hospital food is?

Luckily (knock wood), I've never had to be hospitalized (except when I was born! And used as the diapering demo baby in a new mothers class), but I've visited in the hospital and seen what they serve.

And when my father was recovering from cancer surgery, the hospital sent a list of foods home with him to help him regain some weight. My stepmother took it just for a laugh, because she agreed with me that butter and ice cream and basically just junky, fatty food wasn't a particularly good idea!

Doesn't seem like there's much hope for making the US diet healthier when hospitals serve the crap they do!

I have noticed this at one of my local hospitals as well. The other hospital offers the McDonald's like fair as well as a wealth of healthy selections. I suppose they have budgets and in some cases may be there to make a profit so they sell the crap because, well, it sells. Unfortunately things that were once occasional food items or rare treats have become staples in the American diet. Vegetables are usually an after thought....and fried potatoes the vegetable of choice.....

I work at a research hospital here in Denver and I must say that the food is not that bad. Of course they have their pick of nasty stuff (fried, sugary, etc...) but they have a huge salad bar and a deli and lots of fruit. You can definitely get a nice lunch if you happen to forget yours that day or have nothing at home. The main gripe I have with this place is that it is so expensive.

Have you looked at the doctors Anne? They're probally fat a$$es too}(
I have no idea why they would serve a HEAR ATTACK ON A PLATE!!!!}( I've noticed that too. At my hospital they have crap food but have little mini things of sugar free jelly. Thats the ONLY HEALTHY thing they had. Stupid I know.

By the way Anne, hows your father doin?

Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry with your girlfriends.

The hospital cafeteria here is GREAT!!! Really :9 . My DH works at the clinic and every once in a while we join him for lunch and prefer the hospital cafe. There is a huge salad bar and healthy choices and rarely anything "bad". there are of course choices that we all like once in a while;-) Our community has a program called "healthy choices" in which the schools as well as the clinic and hospital participate. Don't know the effect it has had, but at least the awareness is there.

Sorry about the selection.

When I start my 3rd year rotations next July I plan on brown-bagging it and storing my food in the fridge in the Drs lounge.

Although some docs may eat that crap, just be assured that there are some of us who loath it as well and bring stuff from home. :)
