Horse riding in Vermont

Hello everyone,

I will be vacationing in New York in early November this year and I would like to spend some of that time outside New York city horse riding.

I would like to go horse riding in Vermont, Pennsylvania or some other state near New York where I can either take a short bus trip or plane to. Could anyone reccommend somewhere where there is great scenery for horse riding? I am also looking for good accommodation in the area, preferably near or at the farm as I do not have a car.

Does anyone go horse riding regularly or live in Vermont and know the area well? Will the weather be good at that time of year for a wilderness trek or trail riding?

TIA

Yen

In Vermont in November, the leaves will be gone, the sky will be grey and the snow may be falling. In PA the weather will be much the same, except cold rain will be falling instead of snow. I'm not sure I'd care to vacation in either spot in November, but maybe you are tougher than me. I'd head south!

Hi Yen,

I live in Vermont, but I don't do any horseback riding. However there is an Icelandic Horse farm that I drive by frequently on my way to work meetings. It's in Waitsfield, which has some beautiful scenery, not far from Camel's Hump. If you’re staying more than a day, I'd recommend trying out the Camel's Hump hike as well. It's a nice vigorous hike, with a great reward at the top. Here's a link to the farm's web site:

There should be plenty in the way of accommodations in this area, since it's close to two ski areas.

The temperature in early November can be in the 40's to 50's, but I remember having a couple of November days in the mid-60's in recent years. IMO, it's my favorite time of the year for outdoor activities. However, the foliage at that time might be past its peak.

Here's another link that might be also be helpful.

Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone.

I am a little nervous that the weather might not be good at that time of year as well, so I will see if it is possible to ride in the South somewhere. That will mean a longer trip.

I will check out all the web links.

Thanks again.

TIA,

Do you like riding in the snow? If so be sure to dress warmly, it could have snow there that time of year. Anywhere in Vermont, or Pennsylvania, is beautiful at that time of year. You will have missed the Fall colors, but it is still beautiful.

Have fun and enjoy your fabulous horse riding,

Oh, be sure and get some maple syrup, it is so yummy!
