I just read the thread about you doing 100 pushups and I just think that is amazing! I've been able to do the 72 drop set pushups that Cathe does in Gym Style, but you rest between the drop sets. How in the world did you do 100 straight pushups? I can't even imagine this, but I want to try it. Can you give me some ideas on what goals you made? Like, in two weeks I want to be able to do 30 pushups, in four week, 40 pushups. Is that what you did? What kind of count did you do while doing them? Slow or fast.

Also, out of curiosity, how many pull ups/chin ups can you do in a row?

Also, also, do you have a picturetrail or pics to share?

Thanks! You are a true inspiration! I'll be turning 40 in March and even though I'm in the best shape of my life, I really doubt I'll be able to do what you did!

I can do 7 dead hang chin-ups in a row, and my goal is 15-20. I do lots of sets on my upper body day, and do assisted chin-ups on my Total Trainer (like a Total Gym).

I, just on a whim, wanted to see how many push-ups I could do about 4-5 years ago, and did 75. Back then I just did then along with whatever Cathe workouts I was doing, and nothing more.

Fast forward to this year, and I just decided if I could do 75, what's another 25, and go for 100. The whole key is form, form, form, form. I did internet searches on push-up form, and just did trial & error. The best hint I got was to keep my back and core strong, and to round up very slightly with my back on the highest point of the exercise. You don't want to let anything sag, not your legs, not your core, and not your upper body. The push-up is a bench press flipped over, after all, so think about using the muscles you use for the bench press. Use that same arm position - arms straight up. And I do them fast - that was one internet hint I got. Do them as fast as you can.

Thanks for the response! This just amazes me. So in other words, you just dropped on the floor and did 100 pushups, no training other than Cathe's workouts in between? This is funny because on some fitness lists that I belong too I'm knick-named "Push-Up Queen" because I love doing them so much, but I bow down to you, I have demoted myself to "Push-Up Princess"! LOL!

Great going on the chins, I can do two with perfect form. I'm working my way up to 10 but I never know how to practice them. Do you do them on the days you work your back after your Cathe workout? Or do you do them on seperate days? I usually practice them after my back workout but then I think I might be to exhausted to add more to chin's. Maybe I should do them first and then go onto Cathe's workout.

So much to do, so little time to do it! LOL!
Again, thanks for your response!

I (sheephisly hanging my head) don't do any other Cathe upper body work - instead I do only push-ups, chin-ups and dips - no more pumping iron, just body weight. I found I got greater strength gains, and started looking better - more definition and more cut - when I ditched the weights. I do upper body twice a week, and do free-style legs at least 3 days a week, again, no "weights", other than a medicine ball and a Pilates ring.

I still use Cathe for cardio, and if I do, say, Circuit Max, when she does lunges, I'll do walking lunges. Or squats with a Med Ball. Everyone's different, but I do better with little or no weights, or body weight.

I have NO pictures to share - I don't like to have my picture taken!

Wow, I'm impressed. I love working out with weights, but I may add more body weight exercises to my plan. Thanks for all the great ideas! I bet you look awesome!

Hey Honeybunch,

This thread is very interesting to me. I've been dealing with tennis elbow for the last several months. The only exercises that I can do that don't make my elbow worse or hurt at all are push ups, dips and pull ups (I can only do one pull up). I worry about loosing strength gains so I keep giving into the weights (then my elbow flares up). So, after reading your thread, I have made up my mind to only do those three exercises until my elbow feels perfect. Thanks for this info. I wish I would of met you on the road trip.
