Honeybunch - Need Baking Tips!

Hi Honeybunch!

Since you're the forum's resident Betty Crocker I thought you might be able to give me some suggestions. Right after Thanksgiving I'm going to try to start baking my Christmas cookies and freezing them. The problem I've had in the past is with the decorated cookies. For example, gingerbread men - I outline them with white frosting but when I take them out of the freezer the frosting outline always crumbles and falls off in spots which is so aggravating since decorating is the most time consuming part. Do you have any suggestions to stop this from happening or any easier decorating tips? Baking just doesn't come easy to me! Also, what's the shelf life for dry ingrediants like flour and baking soda?

Thanks for your help. Keep us posted on the bake-off!

Lorrie :)

A link for solving your freezing problem. As for shelf life, I always refrigerate opened products like baking powder, and store flour in container with screw on lids. I'm not sure what the time limit is, but I keep mine a long time.

RE: Thanks so much!!!

That site was fabulous - it answered all my questions and then some. I appreciate the link!

BTW, I have read some of your posts about collecting Doughboy stuff. I got a catalog the other day that had some cute Doughboy ornaments, a teakettle and a bowl set. I don't know how to put the link here, but the address is www.lighter-side.com. The rest of their stuff is pretty tacky but the Doughboy stuff made me think of you.

RE: Thanks so much!!!

I got my stuff off of E-bay, but thanks for the tip! I have enough now, UNLESS I win the bakeoff, in which case I will buy every Doughboy item know to woman or man. I will furnish my kitchen in Doughboy decor(spending lots of dough on "Dough"). Does that mean I will have a "fluffy" kitchen?;-)

RE: Thanks so much!!!

Don't you mean WHEN you win the bakeoff :) The power of positive thinking! Here's to the "fluffy" kitchen!

Do you suppose Chuck will get jealous if the Doughboy starts moving in on his turf?

I saw a cute Doughboy cookie jar at an antique store (though I don't think it was an antique).

Oh, I forgot before, but Happy Belated Birthday!

RE: Thanks so much!!!

On my computer at work and at home I have the Doughboy AND my Chuck Norris action figures standing next to each other! Neither has objected. Sort of like a "before and after'!;-) Eat too many cookies and you'll look like the one with the hat.
