Home Spinning

Good morning, Everyone.

I was reading my current issue of Fitness Magazine and I have come across an ad for a home Spinning Bike, come with 4 DVD's.
Does anyone do their own Spinning at home? How does it work out for you, or is it better to go to a gym? I am really considering getting it...it cost $499.00 plus shipping.
Any info would be great!

Thanks!
Jennifer

I spin at home regularly and love it. It's a great workout. I belong to the Y, but I always end up spinning at home instead to save time on travel, changing, parking, etc. There are some great spinning workouts on DVD - Spinervals are great and also Mindy Mylrea and Jay Blahnik have some good workouts.

I definitely recommend getting a bike!

I have a V-Bike made by Star Trac. I can't remember where I bought it from, but I could look it up if you're interested. I think I paid around $725 including shipping and tax. That was several years ago.

I'm curious about this too. I would love to have a spin bike at home but it would have to be moveable because my house is not very big and I work out in the living room. I thought about getting a regular bike and a trainer but I know that I would hate having to set up every time I wanted to use it.

I read the same article...

I have been considering this for the last 3 months. I have never been to a spin class before - always wanted to.

I am interested in finding out how spinning for an hour does not get boring - how do you stay motivated when you are not in a class setting? Are the DVD instructors that good - or is spinning that much fun? Or is it just that challenging that you do not want to give up - how I feel with Cathe.

Hi Jennifer,

I'm a cyclist and used to spend my entire winters on a trainer in the basement until I discovered Cathe about a month ago (if that!). I use the Spinervals video workouts and they're TOUGH. I don't get bored because I'm too busy trying not to pass out. I love it, but I also love the variety I now have with Cathe. As cycling season gets closer, I'll spend more time on the bike AND with Cathe. I'm sure it will help my cycling a lot.

As for the set up, it's so easy and quick. I think it would be much harder trying to move around a heavy spinning bike than my bike and my trainer. Luckily I have a bike that I only use in the basement and I keep the trainer down there. But if I had to move it around, I'd much rather have a bike and a trainer. Or maybe I'm just saying that b/c I don't have a spinning bike. ;(

I hope that helps!

Hi, I am a spin instructor and I have purchased a spin bike for my use at home. I like the Spinerval videeos as workouts. However, I really like to put my own music together and work out to that since I love hard and fast music whether it is rock, dance or other. I think that you can really work yourself hard especially if you find music that is motivating.

Spin class does not really get boring cause I change my music every week (though that may be unusual for an instructor to do - I get bored tastebuds really quickly). In addition, I do not keep my moves on the bike the same - changing the times or hills or combinations to my mood at the moment. It is nice to spin with others since they can motivate you to go harder and last longer, etc.

I purchased my ENC600 from www.efitnessdirect.com (you can see more options under indoor cycles). I would probably purchase the ENC360 the next time since my spin bike is a bit industrial strength and heavy. I do not move my bike all that often however. I did not like the JohnnyG bike cause it felt a bit lighter than I was interested in and not as sturdy (though my sister likes it enough).

Good luck!

I haven't seen any spin bikes that you would want to move far. They are heavy! A trainer w/ a bike can be set-up & taken down rather quickly. I do like the stability of a spin bike for standing work.
