Hollywood Hypocrites Grrrr...

So this morning while getting dressed I flipped past The View and paused to watch the Katrina footage they had. Big mistake. I was treated to a tirade by Star Jones about the poor in America, who have to go to the bathroom in holes, and nobody gives a damn and the average person is too self-involved to care or notice.

Uh, isn't this the woman who just had one of the most expensive, lavish weddings in recent Hollywood history? A wedding so over the top that she tried to get CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP for it and/or mooch off her wealthy friends? With all the money spent on that one day she could have bought toilets for half the world.

I assume we will soon hear on the news that she is opening her lavish home to refugees, since she is so concerned. Grrrrr.....

I am insulted by her comment. I live in an "average American" neighborhood filled with "average people" and our neighbors have been rallying together to do what we can to help out. That was a very ignorant comment. I can imagine that she is probably upset, like most Americans, by the visuals we see on tv. and is speaking emotionally out of frustration. I don't watch that show, though. There is only one girl I like on that panel out of five, so I don't watch.

I too was peeved at her and Joy. I don't think anyone reacted slowly because of the people involved. Star said that those people don't have bus fare to leave, which I believe to be true. So, shouldn't the mayors and the gov know that. Shouldn't they have an evacuation plan in effect for those who cannot afford to get out? Isn't that the reason for the local government to work on an evacuation plan?

LOL! You guys are too funny. I had never watched this show before and can't say I will again. The only reason I know about her at all was because she was everywhere for a while it seemed.

Umm, apparently there was an evacuation plan but it wasn't followed. The plan called for using public transportation to evacuate those who didn't have the means to do it on their own. The state and local government decided to wing it instead!

Sparrow - I totally agree. you should go to their website and send Ms. Jones an email. Remind her that no, everyone is not looking at/listening to/waiting for her.

When I see a celebrity rag on the response time/government/"average people"/etc. with respect to Katrina, I think "put your money where your big mouth is!!". Some are out there doing things and I'm happy to see that but as to the ones that aren't and are instead apparently more concerned with generating some PR, I'm trying very hard to ignore it. It's easy to shoot off your mouth and cry "unfair!" when you have TV exposure and a name behind it, but I'd rather see them digging into those deep pockets and actually HELPING. Comments like Ms. Jones' do absolutely nothing to solve the problem. Instead they create yet more strife and I think there's already enough of that to go around and then some. You know what they say ... if you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Michele, that would make the woman a freakin genius!

Seriously, she does have some nerve. She's so ostentations & what she spent on that ridiculous wedding could probably have fed the entire city of NO for a day. I don't know why she's on the show, or why she has a leading role on any show for that matter. She has nothing of value to contribute to our society so she should just shut the hell up.

Rats, I really should start checking the fluid content of my wheaties in the morning. :p

Great point, Sparrow. SHe is the most materilistic person out there and she has time to pass judgment on others, huh?

I also take offense to her comment b/c I think that Americans have shown care and teamed up to help when there has been tragedy in our country. There are assistance funds everywhere, people traveling down to help, significant donations made by those that can (um, what was hers?), etc. and those efforts ought to be applauded! Nah, she'd rather focus on the negative and pass jugdment on those that perhaps are not able to donate or help out in another way.

>>Star Jones is Star Jones' biggest fan I think<<

How true! And how does she know how much "average America" cares? I haven't seen any press on how many $$$ have been donated to various Katrina causes, so how does she know how much they care?

>Star Jones? I think her IQ is equal to her dress size.
>Michele, that would make the woman a freakin genius!

How could I have made such a grievous error? What I meant to say was, I think her IQ is LESS THAN her dress size.

Thank you for alerting me to my mistake.:7

I agree completely with you Carol. Would be very interesting indeed to see how much these "whiners" have given to help the Katrina victims...Carole

"the average person is too self-involved to care or notice"

actually i am told if i don't start getting more self involved i am going to spread myself to thin give myself hypertension. i feel like i have to help everybody and it does take a stressful toll so this woman can kiss my "you know what". my extra money that i was saving for cathe dvds went to red cross and autism-society,so much for me being self involved.i believe my signature below speaks for itself LOL

I saw an interview with Leann Rimes and she said when she "has time" she's going to go online and donate on the Red Cross' website. When she has time???? She cant be so busy that she cant take two seconds to do that, geez! And I really don't think these performers should give all these concerts, just give the darn money or pitch in down there and help. It just seems like another publicity stunt for them.

That was my point! If you have the plan, and it uses public transportation and school buses, the local gov knew that these people needed help to get out!
