hip flexor friendly cardio?

Hello all!

I seem to have hurt my hip flexor while running a few weeks ago. I tried to ignore it, with the hope that it'd just go away, but that never works, does it? :D I finally realized today that I was going have to take some time off from running, and now I'm hoping one (or more) of you will have some suggestions for cardio alternatives while it's healing. I have a rebounder, but that's about it for cardio toys. I usually run and do step sometimes, but I think that'd make it worse.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Sarah

KimLav & Sarah!

Sarah, sorry to hear of your injury. The only two I can think of might be swimming and MAYBE spinning. Kim, you out there?? I think Kim had the same injury and was also a runner. Maybe she can give you some info. Good Luck to you. Keep us posted.

Me again!

Sarah~You are absolutely right~ignoring it will not make it go away. Trust me! If you think this is serious, maybe you can go to a sports medicine Dr. who can help you get back to what you like to do. GOOD LUCK!

You might want to try boxing, or kickboxing just doing the upper body parts. Also, you could do some basic bounces (not runs, but "health bounces" ) on the rebounder, perhaps while doing the boxing moves. Just don't do anything that hurts the area, or try to "work throügh" the pain, which will make recovery time longer. Have you checked with a PT?

Thanks to both of you for the input! Due to having short term medical insurance (for major emergencies) and not a whole lot of cash, I'm going to see if I can get this thing to heal on its own before seeking professional medical advice. The lack of cash also rules out swimming - although my brother jokingly emailed me the suggestion of jumping in the Fox River (a PCB-laden Wisconsin River near where I live) and losing an appendage. I'm going to give the boxing on the rebounder a shot tonight and see how it goes.

Thanks again!
Sarah
