Ok, is anyone else doing the high fiber thing?. My DH has high cholesterol, and i have heard the high fiber is better for loosing and maintaining weight, and cholesterol.
Well i have been sneaking and weaning him into this . Whole grain everything from pita , noodles , veggies, berries.
The only problem is I am living in the bathroom.Does this level off?
I have been at it for about 3 months steadily. Really heavy since Christmas.

Over the last year I lost 14 stubborn pounds, (actually, it took 8 months)and I'm sure it was largely because I increased my fiber intake. My other eating habits really have not changed that much, and if you make that one small change, you will experience NO feelings of being deprived like you might if you cut your food intake to cut calories. For every gram of fiber you take in, you will NOT absorb (depending on the source you use) anywhere from 3.75-7.0 calories! Fiber One and Fiber One Honey Clusters cereals are about the best sources of fiber out there, and they taste good.

I get the La Tortilla brand whole wheat tortillas which have 8-14 grams of fiber per tortilla, depending on the size. The large ones are 80 calories each, and the smaller ones are 50 calories.

My husband also has high cholesterol. People at work, two who have had prior heart attacks, tell me their doctors have them taking fish oil capsules as well as a high fiber diet and medication.

My DH doesn't believe in taking the cholesterol medicine.

I take an Omega 3-6-9 oil capsule every day and my cholesterol dropped about 35 or 40 points without cholesterol meds (my two cholesterol readings were a year apart, so I don't know how fast the drop occurred).

Another great source of fiber is Kashi Cinnamin Raison Crunch cereal (10 grams per serving).

I'm not sure what you mean by "the high fiber thing." You mean adding fiber supplements as well? Or just eating a naturally high-fiber diet?

I eat primarily whole foods, so naturally get a lot of fiber. I don't "live in the bathroom," but I'm very regular, (I've had to get a new toilet plunger to make my plumbing can handle my diet!I know, TMI!).

To me, this is the way humans were meant to eat (nature makes foods with fiber, labs remove the fiber--and also produce fiber supplements).

If you are adding non-food fiber sources, then you may actually be getting too much fiber, which can interfere with the absorption of nutrients.

ETA: one reason you might be living in the bathroom is if you drastically increased the amount of raw fruits and veggies in your diet. This could be a detox reaction (especially if the stools are loose) and a sign that your body is clearing out things it doesn't need through the colon.
