hiccups

Do any of you get the hiccups? I've had the hiccups for about three weeks now and they are getting more constant. I did a search and found mostly information on fetal hiccups....but **I** have them. Do you know why?

I don't have any help for you. But, you said you have had them for 3 weeks... do you mean continuosly? That reminds me of the guy from Utah who I saw on the Today show (several years ago), and at the time he had had the hiccups for months and perhaps over a year and no one could help him! Crazy, huh! I will knock on wood for having told you this!

Thanks Emy! I'll check out those links.

No, thank goodness, they are NOT continuous:) . I'll get like 2-4 of them in a row every 5-15 minutes.

I do drink a lot, however, does the baby hit my diaphragm? I have a REAL active one.

Not that I know much about where the diaphrahm is but my SIL had her top two ribs broken by her first child while in the womb so if they are close, your baby could be hitting it!

Hope they are gone for good soon. Nothing more frustrating than hiccups!

I don't know much about pregnancy induced hiccups, but I do know that hands down, the best cure for hiccups is to take a deep breath, let you mouth fill with air (puff out your cheeks like a chipmunk) and then swallow the air as many times as you can while holding your breath. Repeat several times in a row and then take a break to see if the hiccups have stopped, if not keep repeating the process until they are gone, or you just think it isn't going to work for you. It is basically like swallowing nothing, but I have found that it works every time, both for me and for anyone I've recommended it to. No one was pregnant at the time though...:) This comes from an elementary school nurse that I had years ago and I haven't the faintest if there's any reason why it works, but it does, even in persistent cases.
Can't hurt to try!
